From Nudge to Push to Shove: Bondi Terror Attack a Pretext for Hate Speech Laws
Two radical Islamic terrorists showed Australia just how evil antisemitism could be. “Hate speech and gun laws will fix that.” Many disagreed. The government has ways to fix that, too.
Antisemitism animated radical Islamic terrorists who tore at our nation’s fabric. Bondi, 14 December 2025, was more than a massacre; worse than a tragedy. It grieved the soul of Australia.
Rabid antisemitism was their mind virus. What antidote did leaders offer? What medicine to soothe collective pain? What remedy to stop copy-cats? Strict hate speech and gun laws.
Were Sajid Akram and his son Naveed Akram radical Islamic terrorists? Some would argue they were simply Islamic. But this line of religious questioning may now be considered “hate speech.” Verboten. Note how Sky News Australia’s James Macpherson skilfully tackles this difficult issue.
The Liberals joined Labor in passing the “Combatting Antisemitism, Hate and Extremism Bill 2026” on 20 January 2026. One Nation was always a hard NO. The Nationals voted NO, causing the Coalition to dissolve. One may argue that this is simply a disagreement among Coalition members. Here is a different perspective.
Just a Nudge
Government knows best. Not just here, but all over the world. The masses need help to know how to think about important matters. Anyway, that’s what governments believe.
In his article Nudge and Behavioral Governance, Dr Robert Malone describes Nudge Theory and its weaponisation.
“By embedding behavioral cues into digital systems and policy frameworks, modern institutions increasingly govern not through law, reason, or debate, but through subconscious influence and algorithmic conditioning.”
On September 15, 2015, President Obama signed Executive Order 13707, titled “Using Behavioral Science Insights to Better Serve the American People.” This Grok query shows how rapidly Obama’s “Nudging” had spread.
“Over the past 15 years, it [Nudging] has indeed evolved into policy tools adopted by governments globally, influencing areas like health, environment, and finance. For instance, the OECD reports over 200 behavioral insights units worldwide by the mid-2010s, applying nudges in policy design across more than 80% of member countries. Early adopters include the UK’s Behavioural Insights Team [or BIT] (established in 2010), which served as a model for similar units in the U.S., Germany, Australia, and others. During the COVID-19 pandemic, nudges were used for compliance with health measures, such as messaging and digital prompts, often in collaboration with tech firms.”
Australia developed its own version: the Behavioural Economics Team of the Australian Government (BETA), established in 2016. BETA drew inspiration from the UK’s BIT model and aligns with OECD recommendations.
From Nudge to Push
Grok’s analysis once more proved useful:
The passing of hate speech laws used “nudge-based behavioural governance strategies, though it represents a more coercive evolution rather than pure subtle nudges. … This law … incorporates elements … which could subtly steer public conversations away from controversial topics like immigration or cultural integration.”
In the video “New ‘hate group’ laws will shut down debate“, Daniel Wild (IPA) and Tony Abbott (former Australian PM) argue that the law’s broad, subjective criteria (e.g. protecting against “psychological harm”) could be weaponised to stifle debate.
Senator Ralph Babet makes an astonishing, yet plausible assertion in the video: “This ‘Hate’ bill is tyranny under colour of law. Canberra has fallen.” In it, he questions the origins of the Bill’s contents. He notes that in a “serious country,” a Bill of this size and importance would take months to complete. Topher Field agreed, stating that the bill was “on the shelf ready to go, and they were just waiting for… the excuse that they needed.”
Although difficult to prove, an “off-the-shelf” Bill is plausible, especially in the context of other recent “Conspiracy Theories”, including:
- SARS-COV-2 Origins (Natural vs Lab Gain of Function)
- COVID shot “safe and effective”
- The Hunter Biden laptop
- Trump-Russia Collusion
When Push Comes to Shove
Governments are quite adept at “Nudging” by now. Could they stoop any lower? In this video, “Understanding Reflexive Environments“, Dr James Lindsay explains how Reflexivity is a “dialectical weapon” for mass psychosis, deliberately trapping society in engineered change.
When Grok was asked whether the Labor government’s response to the Bondi massacre is an example of Reflexivity, it answered:
“Yes, the Labor Government’s response to the December 14, 2025, Bondi Beach shooting—focusing on gun control and hate speech reforms while allegedly downplaying the role of radical Islamism—could plausibly exemplify reflexivity.
Although Prime Minister Albanese publicly deemed it a “terrorist incident” and acknowledged its antisemitic nature, the response pivoted to broader reforms … rather than emphasising intelligence failures, radicalisation, or immigration policies that might have enabled the attackers. This framing could seize the crisis to polarise discourse—positioning critics of Islamism or unchecked immigration as “hateful,” thereby justifying speech restrictions that silence blame on those factors.”
Why would the Liberal Party support the Bill? Are MPs and Senators all ignorant of Nudge Theory, BETA and Reflexivity? Were they played by evil manipulators? Let’s pray for discernment and answers to such difficult questions.
Grok was scathing in its assessment, stating that “accumulated narratives on hate and division” led to “laws that embed control mechanisms, potentially grifting political capital for the Uniparty while eroding free speech.”
We must continue to pray for our leaders and for the nation itself. We must also pray for Christians everywhere to be bold, “always being prepared to make a defence to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.” (1 Peter 3:15)

Appeal for the Bondi Terrorist Attack Victims
Celebrate Israel, in partnership with the Canberra Declaration and other supporters, have organised a relief fund appeal for the victims and families of the Sydney Bondi Beach terrorist attack.
Our giving team is called Celebrate Israel Australia on the platform and is part of a much larger appeal run on the Charidy giving website. All donations are tax-deductible and will be administrated by the Jewish United Support Fund.
The relief fund will provide direct financial support, helping families begin to rebuild their lives after this tragedy. Assistance is especially needed to cover essential commitments when the family’s primary breadwinner has been killed. Find out more about this appeal on The Daily Declaration here.
Please stand alongside the Jewish community as a visible demonstration of God’s love to them at this critical time of need. So far, over $29,000 has already been donated, and we prayerfully seeking to raise $100,000.

John this is an excellent article that elucidates the problems we are facing with the shocking threat of Government propaganda becoming totalitarian group think as explained by George Orwell.
Thank you, Warwick. God bless and protect sites like the Canberra Declaration. It’s only through the free expression of truth that we may “save others by snatching them out of the fire.” (Jude 1:23)
Thank you John for pointing out what seem to be extraordinary blind spots in our Federal Govt. The Bondi massacre never should have occurred. Thankfully though at first , Australians as a nation, rose up with compassion and even the mainstream did some honest coverage at first. But then came the prolonged wait for action…the asking for a Royal commission, and the query as to why the Bondi massacre occurred without early Federal intervention all went on the back burner and as you said the new proposed hate laws will gag those who want to share truths and point out dangers we are facing as we will no longer have a e democracy but rather a population under surveillance (e.g. a 5yr jail sentence for ‘hate speech’ will be the consequence for speaking up)…many aspects and recent policies just don’t add up.
For instance, just before the massacre I had read of the PM and Federal govt giving $27 million to the IMAMS Council in Australia so they could protect themselves from any attack (this was ‘charity’ money give for the security needs of mosques, schools and meeting places such as prayer halls in Australia). I thought it very strange since it was the synagogues of the Jews being attacked and the schools children already were on high alert and told to not wear uniform to school, plus a popular Jewish Melbourne restaurant was attacked and cars fire bombed. ..As well as that after Oct 7 2023 a group Jewish people met to grieve and mourn together in a Melbourne restaurant at a private address- yet a female Victorian Greens senator invaded the meeting and stood and just stared at them while wearing burqua. It all seemed so bizarre and indeed even criminal to invade such a sacred ceremonial meal and time of remembrance, yet no one was arrested for the invasion and yet no apology came…that was part of the unusual reaction by the federal Govt and a few MPs, but stranger things occurred as time went on. ASIO were told to make 8 senior advisers redundant by Nov 2025 just when rallies and protestors were again mounting and Jewish people were feeling very unsafe once again. (I would have thought more ASIO and ADF personal were needed and the experienced ones were vitally needed but obviously our Fed Govt saw no danger afoot. )
It was near that time that Mike Burgess head of AISIO warned the PM and Fed Govt that an extremist group Hiz but Tahrir were visiting each capital city in late November to radicalise the youth and teach the Islamic way of life, with the aim of also setting up a caliphate (the other underlying agenda was to kill the Jews and infidels).
No one listened to Mike N Burgess and just 2-3 weeks later the Bondi massacre occurred by two extremists from a different group fo radical islam….The only sense I can make of all these events that pointed to danger is that our Federal govt didn’t want anyone to realise the threats existing within our nation and would rather gain the vote of those who may have come here with another Agenda. The lure of the votes gained and 1.4 million new immigrants brought in during the last 2 years by Labor has been too great a temptation to turn away from. Instead we have smoke screening going on and ‘a different take’ on immigration, national safety and the voting system where any safety issues are ignored or denied.
Those people with guns or who warn there is danger within our shores (called hate speech) are blamed instead and those who may have spoken up to ask for protection of our national security have been silenced. and will be by the hate laws you have discussed
Lastly the Jewish people have not been protected – for instead of fortifying synagogues and schools, the Imams have been given money to protect their buildings and schools and meeting calls (where they may be a call to Jihad) yet they have not been harmed or threatened…This strange policy of appeasing those who may harm the Jewish people within our shores is really akin to giving Hitler’s army money to secure their safety and leaving the Jewish people to be hunted down.
May God have mercy on Australia and may the Jewish people be protected. May ASIO be listened to when they give warnings; may the ADF be empowered, and may we return to democratic decision making which allows evaluation of immigration policy to take place with with accountability and transparency
Great commentary, Gail. We must pray for our nation – sheep without a shepherd.
