No Sustained Revival without Israel
There is no way Australia will see an ongoing, nation‑shaking revival unless the Australian Church resolves that their country must stand with Israel and the Jews – and acts to make it so.
That’s the astounding prophetic truth this article lays out. One of Scripture’s earliest, abiding and historically-verified principles is that those who bless the seed of Abraham will be blessed. The recorded chronicles of all nations, kingdoms and empires – from ancient Egypt, Babylon, Assyria, Persia, Greece and Rome, to the Ottomans, to Britain – corroborate this.
And every genuine move of God through time, every wave of prayer, repentance, renewal, transformation, and reformation, is inseparably interwoven with God’s covenant with Israel due to the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34, and referenced in Hebrews 9:13-15.
Just as the calling out of Abraham (Genesis 12:1–3), “kicked off” God’s plan of salvation for mankind (see Galatians 3:8), what it culminates in will sound the “final whistle” in the outworking of that redemption. For when King Messiah — the Lion of Judah — arrives in Jerusalem and locks in his immutable rule over all nations, his kingdom will finally be consummated on earth, as it is in heaven.
We are directed to bless Israel.
Australia’s Destiny in the Balance
Australia will not be exempt from the consequences of this covenant. Today is God’s appointed time to favour Zion (Psalm 102:13). He is fully set on the complete restoration of Israel. His light is rising over His land (Isaiah 60:1). Blessings and light will accrue to us as a nation when our government stands with His purposes for His nation. Indeed, it is to our full benefit, for the end of this process will be “life from the dead” for the world (Romans 11:15).
When Australia oppose God’s purposes for Israel, gross darkness (Isaiah 60:2) will drive the light from it, as it has done, and is doing.
Crucially, the Church (Ekklesia) in a country which understands the biblical prerequisite that God’s purposes with Israel must be prioritised over domestic spiritual needs; that Church will itself come into blessing. By aligning with Israel, it will be plugged into the source of that light.
Those Australian “churches” that join the enemy in cursing Israel – whatever light they have will be snuffed out.
As we, Christians, process this certainty, it is critical to distinguish sharply between, on the one hand, the political democracy of pagan/progressive/secular Australia together with the institutionalised churches that support its policies and, on the other hand, Australians who are in the true Ekklesia (in the Body of Messiah).
What this does not mean is that we, the Church, must somehow keep a space between ourselves and our political institutions; the so-called separation of church and state. To the contrary, we should, as a body, absolutely engage, insisting on a change of direction towards Israel by:
- praying and speaking into the political with Bible-based authority;
- challenging our representatives
- pressing our governments
- demonstrating and protesting.
At times, if our government’s laws contradict God’s, and our consciences demand it, we should be open to civil disobedience.
Of course, while it is doubtless a positive thing for God-fearing people to be elected to positions of influence, a democracy’s spiritual direction is not primarily determined by the spiritual condition of its leaders. (Witness the evangelical Scott Morrison, who, although his election excited Aussie Christians, went on to betray Israel).
In truth, the very premise of democracy is flawed, fatally. The majority of sinful men/women will never vote for God’s policies (Matthew 7:13–14). Which is why the real responsibility for Australia’s well-being lies with those who already have citizenship in the kingdom of God, who have been called, indeed sent, to be salt and light to their nation.
This article is written for the Ekklesia rising across our land — from Perth to Brisbane, from Hobart to Darwin, from the red centre to the coastlines — who long to see Australia awakened, cleansed, restored, and set ablaze for Jesus.
From Beersheba (Be’er Sheva) until Now
As a newborn nation, we fought for the freedom of the Holy Land in World War I, principally in the Middle East, where our most notable battle was the charge of the Australian Light Horse at Beersheba.

- The Light Horse charge at Beersheba on 31 October 1917 is known in military circles as ‘The Last Great Cavalry Charge in History’. The stunning victory of the 800 Australian horsemen, together with their New Zealand and British comrades, changed history (see this article by Jill Curry).
- The Battle of Beersheba on 31 October 1917 was a history-making moment that would be written into Australia’s prophetic purpose. Halloween is a non-event, but this victory is really worth celebrating. It is fitting to issue a new call of 12 days of prayer for Israel on its 106th anniversary (see this article by Warwick Marsh).
- Most Australians know of the Battle of Beersheba, but far fewer realise that its architect, Sir Harry Chauvel, possessed a sincere Christian faith (see this article by Graham McDonald).
- A Christian-historical argument tracing Australia and New Zealand’s ANZAC legacy as part of a divine plan culminating in the establishment of the modern State of Israel (see this article by Kelvin Crombie).
Beersheba (“Well of the Oath” or “Well of Seven”) is deeply rooted in the narratives of Genesis:
- It is where Abraham made a covenant with Abimelech, dug a well, planted a tamarisk tree, and “called on the name of the Lord, the Eternal God” (Genesis 21:31–33).
- Isaac later reaffirmed covenants and dug wells there (Genesis 26).
- It marked the southern boundary of the Promised Land (“from Beersheba to Dan” in 1 Chronicles 21–22 and other passages), symbolising the full extent of Israel’s inheritance.
In this view, the 1917 battle at this ancient site of covenant and promise carries significant symbolic weight as a Judeo-Christian battering ram opening the “gateway” to the occupied Land of Israel after 13 almost unbroken centuries of Islamic control.
Australia was thus tightly tied to the broad Biblical theme of Israel’s restoration, a restoration foretold by Moses and all the prophets, with the ingathering of the Jews from exile and their resurrection as a nation of once “dry bones” (Ezekiel 37). The victory has been portrayed as a modern “miracle”, or “God of the impossible” moment, where lightly armed Australian horsemen succeeded against entrenched Turkish defences in a phenomenal and daring charge.
In 2014, addressing then-ambassador to Israel, David Sharmer, the mayor of Beersheba put it this way: “If it wasn’t for Australia, there would be no Israel.”
Australia’s Revival Story Is Connected to Israel’s Story
Australia is a land with a unique prophetic calling: Southern Lands of the Holy Spirit (as declared in the Latin name Terra Australis del Espiritu Santo). But no nation can walk in its Spirit‑given destiny while disconnected from the people through whom the Spirit’s covenant story flows.
The Bible is unequivocal: Israel is the root. Believers in the nations are the branches (Romans 11). If the Church in Australia wants long-term revival, it must stay connected to the root.
Prayer: Australia’s Intercession Must Include Israel
Every revival in Scripture begins with prayer — and Biblical prayer is deeply tied to Israel.
- Daniel prayed identificational repentance for Israel: “We have sinned… O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive!” (Daniel 9:19).
- Nehemiah prayed the same way: “Both my father’s house and I have sinned” (Nehemiah 1:6).
- Australian Christians praying for revival must pray for Israel’s peace, protection, and salvation. “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: May they prosper who love you” (Psalm 122:6).
Revival prayer that ignores Israel is incomplete.
Repentance: Australia Must Turn Back to God’s Order
The Ministry Magazine emphasises that revival and reformation are inseparable from repentance — a turning back to God’s ways and priorities.
For Australia, repentance includes:
- repenting for the Church’s historical abandonment of Israel
- jettisoning the heresy of replacement theology
- recognising where Australian Christianity has been seduced by secular narratives about Israel
- returning to Scripture’s covenantal worldview.
Revival requires repentance — and repentance requires realignment with Israel.
Renewal: The Spirit Moves Where the Covenant Flows
God promises renewal through the Holy Spirit: “I will give you a new heart… and put My Spirit within you.” (Ezekiel 36:26–27). This promise was first given to Israel.
When Australia blesses Israel, honours Israel, and stands with Israel, it positions itself under the same covenantal flow of renewal.
Australia cannot expect sustained spiritual renewal while ignoring – much less opposing – the people through whom the covenant was delivered.
Transformation: Revival That Changes Australia
Australia needs transformation — in families, churches, media, politics, education, and culture. But transformation comes when the Church aligns with God’s redemptive blueprint.
That blueprint is Israel-centric.
Australia is at a crossroads. You can feel it in every sphere of society:
- Families are under pressure from brokenness, fatherlessness, addiction, and isolation. Godly family was defined in the Bible via God’s laws.
- Churches are wrestling with compromise, confusion, and cultural drift. The long-standing heresy of Replacement Theology is a curse.
- Media often amplifies fear, division, and hostility toward Biblical truth. The Israel-hatred expressed in mainstream media is damning.
- Politics is increasingly shaped by secular ideologies rather than moral conviction. Our government is anti-Israel.
- Education is drifting from truth, identity, and moral foundations. Antisemitism is rife in our universities.
- Culture is fragmenting under the weight of relativism and spiritual emptiness. We have lost the value of God’s laws.
Australia doesn’t just need improvement — it needs transformation. And transformation is the fruit of revival, not the cause of it.
Isaiah prophesied that the nations would be transformed by Israel’s rising: “Nations shall come to your light” (Isaiah 60:3).
Australia’s transformation is tied to Israel’s destiny, as was Israel’s restoration, in part, because of the Anzacs. There is a call to be spiritual Anzacs. Please read The Anzac Call by Jill Curry.
Reformation: Returning the Australian Church to Biblical Foundations
Reformation is structural, doctrinal, and cultural realignment with Scripture.
You cannot have Biblical reformation while ignoring the Bible’s central theme: God’s covenant with Israel, His plan to redeem the world through the Jewish Messiah, and the Messiah’s return to reign as King in Jerusalem. Jesus came and ministered as a Kosher Jewish Rabbi. The last supper was a Passover meal. We have lost so much of the Jewish/Hebrew basis of our faith and cultural understanding that we can’t see the trees for the forest in terms of our roots.
Reformation in Australia requires:
- knowing that Israel and the Church have one destiny, together (there is only one flock; there is only one tree)
- restoring Israel to the centre of Christian theology
- embracing the Jewish roots of the faith
- recognising Israel’s prophetic role in these end times
- teaching believers how Israel shapes Christian identity.
A reformed Australian Church is an Israel‑aligned Church.
The Prophetic Future: Australia’s Revival and Israel’s Awakening Are Intertwined
The Bible teaches that the final global revival is inseparable from Israel’s spiritual awakening: “All Israel will be saved” (Romans 11:26).
Messiah comes to Jerusalem (Zechariah 14:4). His Word goes forth from Jerusalem (Isaiah 2:3). The nations gather to worship the King in Jerusalem (Zechariah 14:16).
Australia’s role in the end-time harvest depends on its posture toward Israel. We cannot escape this critical fact.
A nation that blesses Israel is a nation God blesses. A nation that stands with Israel is a nation God strengthens. A nation that honours Israel is a nation God revives.
Final Word: Australia’s Revival Requires Standing with Israel
Revival is not just passion — it is alignment. Reformation is not just correction — it is restoration. Renewal is not just refreshing — it is returning to the root. And the root is Israel.
To pray for revival in Australia is to pray for Israel. To repent as the Australian Church is to repent for our treatment of Israel. To seek renewal in Australia is to reconnect with Israel’s covenant story. To pursue transformation in Australia is to bless Israel. To embrace reformation in Australia is to restore Israel to its Biblical place.
Australia will not see long-term Christian revival without standing with Israel — because God Himself stands with Israel.
