Elect Life in Victoria This Saturday and This November

3.6 MINS

Treasury Gardens is beautiful this time of the year. We were there on the weekend and watched the simple wonder of a mother duck with her 15 ducklings wandering happily through the many people and across the green grass; nature itself quietly testifying to the preciousness of new life. There, we were engulfed in God’s mighty creation, surrounded by huge Moreton Bay figs, Cedars and Norfolk Pines.

We are looking forward to being in the Treasury Gardens again this Saturday, 10 October.  The March For The Babies has become a yearly reunion for many — a time to reconnect, encourage one another, and publicly affirm the importance of family and the love of life.

This year marks the 18th annual March. It is a solemn occasion because every abortion represents a profound loss. Yet it is also a joyful, family-centred celebration. In our 18-year history, we have never once been rained upon, and we do not expect this year to be any different.

Speakers Standing Together for Victoria’s Unborn

Many organisations have come together to be involved in the March. We will be joined by representatives from Bird Flip, Tradies for Babies, Pro-life Health Professionals Australia, and Family First, the only genuinely Prolife political party.

Our speakers are Rachel Carling from Pro-life Victoria, Mary Collier from Right to Life Victoria, and Dave Pellowe, founder of Church and State. Their voices remind us why we come together year after year: to stand for truth, for women, for the wholeness of families.

March for the Babies began in 2009 to commemorate the passing of Victoria’s Abortion Law Reform Act one year earlier—one of the most extreme abortion laws in the developed world. Killing an unborn child remains legal up to birth, including for social and economic reasons. Incredibly, after 18 years, many people are still surprised to hear the full extent of these laws, and some don’t believe them.

Abortions are completely subsidised in Victorian public hospitals; hardworking Victorians are forced to pay for this ‘Death Care’ through our taxes. We are told abortion is ‘Health Care’ while it kills people, destroys families, and undermines the next generation.

Babies born alive after attempted abortion have, in practice, been left without the care every other newborn receives. NSW has taken a small step in the right direction by recognising that babies born alive need care. Victoria still has a long way to go, and in the election this November, we must not waste our opportunity to send the message that we want prolife leaders.

A Culture Turning Back Towards Life

The conservative state, most of us grew up in, has fallen into deep deception and immorality, resulting in depression and confusion for many. But Victoria, a society fed up with being pushed too far in the wrong direction, is changing.  We invite you to be part of the change.

We live in exciting times. Traditional churches are welcoming newcomers. A growing number of young men are standing up against a culture that devalues life and family.

It is a privilege to be part of this quiet but determined wave of change — a turning away from the culture of death and a turning toward God, toward life, and toward a future that honours every human being from conception.

Conversations in the next five weeks will be increasingly about the November election, which carries unique pressures, and stakes are high. Many are praying it will be the end of a long Labor era. But a changing of the guard is not the whole picture.

Let our visible, peaceful presence on 10 October help shape and animate that conversation over the next five weeks, and point toward something much better for Victoria: a society that protects its smallest members.

The Scale of Loss

Worldwide, according to the World Health Organization, about 132 million children are born, and around 73 million children are aborted each year. That means roughly 29 per cent of all pregnancies end in the death of a child rather than a joyful new life, full of potential and blessing.

This time last year, in another article, we compared the scale of deaths from abortion, heart attacks and wars, with our collective responses to each. It is a shocking revelation of ignorance and apathy. This year, the numbers remain stark, and the need for a consistent defence of life is even clearer.

Yet, from our government, there is not only no defence, but a great deal of encouragement and support for abortion. If all the 73 million children could speak, what would they say? Where are the defenders of those children miraculously born alive after a failed abortion? If those children could speak, what basic small request would they make of us? But they can’t speak, and we are commanded to.

Open your mouth for the speechless, in the cause of all who are appointed to die.
— Proverbs 31:8 (NKJV)

What Else Can We Do?

  • Share this link for pro-life candidates: VoteLife.com.au
  • Direct election conversations toward electing pro-life MPs.
  • Pray for this scourge on Victoria to end.
  • Pray for health care to be about life, and for government funding to never encourage death.
  • Pray for the next generation to love their babies.
  • Pray for adoption to become more accessible.
