Pen Power Keeps Speaking Up

Pen Power Keeps Speaking Up

Pen Power Australia has been busy confronting antisemitism and double standards, lodging letters, pursuing accountability and celebrating several important wins along the way.

It’s been a busy month here at Pen Power Australia. We have written some 35 letters, with a total of nearly 4,000 emails sent. We have written about double standards displayed by the government. The NGOs have also received letters along with councils.

Some councillors are very antisemitic, with one recently even calling to “Globalise the intifada”. We all know what that means, with Australia experiencing a start of that call to violence.

Challenging Antisemitism Across Australia

Universities are deeply antisemitic, with universities in Sydney and Melbourne being the worst. Again, we have written to them expressing concern with them now investigating treatment over some Israeli exchange students who were faced with antisemitic cartoons in the first few days they were in Australia.

The Royal Commission is continuing to be a large project for us. We are making a submission of a large number of our letters under the various topics requested by the Commission. We hope to have that submission finished and lodged in the next week. A big thank you to my helper for the effort that has been put into this large and important project.

There have been some more wins over the past month. Optus included free phone and SMS messaging for their customers to the war zone. They originally excluded Israel, but after our letter, Israel was included.

The LGBT Mardi Gras expelled an anti-Israel float from the parade. The very antisemitic Francesca Albanese was due to speak via video link at Adelaide University, but the university decided the venue was unsuitable for such a speaker.

So, from cartoons in newspapers, mosques celebrating the death of the Ayatollah to Sydney and Melbourne writers’ festivals promoting speakers full of hate and calling for death to Jews have all received our letters.

There is no place for this type of hate and double standards that we are currently experiencing in Australia.

There are always people needed to research letter topics, write letters and search for email addresses. We are always on the lookout for topics that we can use for letters. If it’s antisemitic in any way, please send it or a link to me at  penpoweraustralia@outlook.com.

The times are changing very quickly, and we need to speak up — that is our primary goal. We believe that Israel and the Jewish people are to play an important role in shaping the future, and they need us to stand with them. Please join us by sending letters. You can join the WhatsApp Channel where all the letters are posted.

If you’re not sure about WhatsApp, please drop me an email, and I can help you get started.
