Day 13: Revival, Renewal, Reformation
Intention
God’s people must humble themselves, pray and seek Him for reformation to occur
Scripture
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” – 2 Chronicles 7:14
“For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.” – Isaiah 43:19
Reflection
If you’re anything like me, you may have asked God or even thought to yourself, “God, I wonder what you are doing?” Especially in the last two years of this time of COVID-19.
It can be tempting to be anxious, worried or discouraged because of the circumstances that are happening around us. Nonetheless, as I read Isaiah 43:19, I am reminded that the Lord our God is always doing a new thing and is most certainly in control.
Throughout this season I have heard many people say, “I can’t wait for things to go back to normal after COVID-19.”
I honestly believe that – now more than ever – we are poised for a move of God that will result in revival of hearts, reformation of communities, and renewal of faith towards the Kingdom of God.
God is always doing a new thing, and this means we will never be able to go back to how it used to be both here in Australia and around the world.
As it says in 2 Chronicles 7:14, what that means for us is that if we, as God’s people, HUMBLE ourselves, PRAY, and SEEK Him, He will HEAR, FORGIVE and HEAL our land.
As I read this passage, I recognise that God causes revivals to happen at two levels: Firstly, within our very hearts and, secondly, throughout the land.
As the ancient kings of old caused revival and reform, we have the ultimate King of Kings, Jesus, who is still causing revival and redemption within us all. In October, we continue a journey of seeking a future of the redemptive hope only found in Jesus.
As we join together, let our hearts become the temple of God where we offer spirit-led prayers and obedient worship together.
Let us pray as Jesus prayed, ‘Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.”
Prayer
Father God, we worship and praise because you are God and You are in control.
We humbly yield to You again in surrender. May Your will be our own as we seek Your kingdom and righteousness here on earth as it is in Heaven.
Help us to see and hear You for the new things that You are doing. God help us to reimagine and rebuild that we may see Your renewal, revival and reformation here on earth.
Lord, let this revival start first within my heart and then throughout our land. May there be an explosion of spirit-led worship that is made manifest through expressions of creativity, justice, mercy and love.
Father, most of all, let Your Kingdom come, Your will be done here on earth as it is in Heaven.
In Jesus’ name, Amen
