Let us join together in prayer to avert the cataclysm of a third world war as tensions escalate in Ukraine. May God hear our intercession for mankind and bestow His peace upon the nations.

On the 24th of February, Russia sent its troops into the nation of Ukraine in an escalation of a war that began in 2014. President Vladimir Putin’s initial tactical motive to topple President Zelenskyy and his government and take over the nation has not succeeded. The war is into its 13th day, with a failed third attempt of peace talks amid ceasefire violations.

Wars and Rumours of Wars

On the 4th of March, Russia put the nations of the world on high alert by attacking the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in Southeastern Ukraine. There are fears of future attacks on three remaining nuclear plants.

During an interview with The Harvard Gazette, Rolf Mowart-Larssen, a senior Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Centre for Science and International Affairs, said:

Before Putin said anything or put any forces on alert, we understood that there was a chance that this could end up involving nuclear weapons. That’s just the reality of having the weapons, and we’d be naive to think otherwise.

I think NATO and US actions reflect that: the unwillingness, for example to create a no-fly zone over Ukraine, our decision that we can’t directly intervene militarily, or we risk a war with Russia. Those types of decisions reflect our concern that Putin or the Russians may be serious about using nuclear weapons.

So I don’t think in that sense that it caught everybody by shock, because, of course, we have to consider the possibility that if everything goes wrong, we may end up with some sort of a nuclear confrontation.

World War Three: A Very Real Possibility

One eerie speculation of how this war could go in the long run is that it could lead to World War Three. We are a divided world. There are conflicts between China and Taiwan, Israel and Iran, Israel and Palestine, and the US and Iran, any of which could become military conflicts.

During the recent UN General Assembly, 141 nations voted in favour of Ukraine, five voted in favour of Russia, and 35 absented. Australia voted with Ukraine and is now supplying lethal aid so that Ukraine is better able to defend itself.

Economic sanctions from the West are causing the Russian economy to collapse from within. They are also prompting a deep resentment towards Putin’s leadership among the Russian people. Perhaps, therefore, this war with Ukraine may remain between just these two neighbours.

However, the humanitarian crisis of thousands of Ukrainians suffering displacement, death and bloodshed is criminal – all for the selfish ambition of Putin, a hardened supporter of ‘Mother Russia’. The resilience and resolve of the Ukrainian retaliation is exemplary. Putin’s initial war tactics have backfired.

Australia’s Covenant History With God

As a faith-filled, Spirit-led ecclesia, the legislative government of Jesus on the earth is our role in this hour. Rick Ridings, founder of the Succat Hallel house of prayer in Jerusalem, and a prophetic intercessor, seer and watchman, explains on his blog the need for strategic intercession and prayer to thwart World War Three.

During World War II, Rees Howells, a strategic prophetic intercessor in the UK, was able to get specific directions for prayer as the group praying with him started asking the Lord for strategies to stop Hitler in his tracks and deliver the nations from the advancing German troops. Australia has a covenant history with God. Our nation’s prophetic name as the ‘Great Southland of the Holy Spirit’ was proclaimed by a Spirit-led Spaniard named Pedros De Quiros. He made this declaration over Australia and the South Pacific islands in order that we would proclaim the holy Evangel of God.

Paving the way for the founding of modern Israel, Australia’s Light Horse charge that secured victory over the Ottoman Turks in Beersheba has commanded God’s blessing over our nation. Recall that God told Abraham to bless those who bless Israel. God is our Lawgiver, our Covenant Keeper and our Righteous Judge. He will preserve us and keep us in the land that He has given us as our inheritance.

Watchmen, Arise!

Consider the words of Habakkuk 2:1:

I will stand my watch and set myself on the rampart.
And watch to see what He will say to me.
And what I will answer when I’m corrected.

In light of this promise, let us contend for a harvest of souls in our nation and the nations of the earth.

A Prayer

• Father, we decree that the earth is the Lord’s and its fullness thereof. According to Psalm 24, we welcome You Jesus, the King of Glory, who is strong and mighty and fights our battles.
• Father, we ask You as the desire of nations to protect the innocent civilians, the weak and frail, elderly, the women and children on both sides who are caught between the wickedness and deception of the enemy working through the rulers of the nations.
• Father, we bind the works of the enemy to steal the harvest of souls by propagating a world war outside the times and seasons of God. We loose the intercessory prayer of Jesus to the Father, who prayed, “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.” (John 17:20-21).
• As the Ecclesia and the royal priesthood until the purposes of the kingdom of heaven are established, we legislate: let there be no World War Three initiated.
• In this season of the Feast of Purim, like Esther, let the hearts of Your people who are called by Your name be prepared in humility and the fear of the Lord for “such a time as this”. We petition God for a divine reversal of the death decree that would not only annihilate the Jews, but all humanity.
• We decree Colossians 2:14-15: “Having cancelled the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross, when He had disarmed the rulers and authorities. He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.”
• Father, we thank You that You are bringing Your children, the Jews, back to their homeland in the sight of the nations. As it says in Ezekiel 28:25 (AMP), “Thus says the Lord GOD,” When I gather the house of Israel from the nations among whom they are scattered, and I manifest my Holiness in them in the sight of the nations, then they will live in their own land which I gave to My servant Jacob.”
• Father, have mercy on the nations. Let Your mercy triumph over Your judgements. We thank You for the precious blood of Jesus that is continually speaking a better word. We are redeemed of the Lord, and we say so!
• Father, may Australia be a sheep nation in Your sight, and walk in true obedience. May we be the repairers of the breach and the builders of ruined cities in this hour to the peoples and nations in need. As we bless others, may You bless us.
• Father, deliver our cities from the deluge and devastation of floods. God, let this be the finest hour of Your church to fulfil Isaiah 60: “To arise and shine in the darkness and the deep darkness that covers the earth. Let Your Glory be seen on Your church. Let the Gentiles come to Your light in them and the Kings to the brightness of our rising.”
• Father, let there be a ‘love revival’ of the people of God, so that we are known by our love, and so that the knowledge of Your Glory may cover the earth as the waters cover the sea.

We decree that Jesus is Lord over Australia!
