Jesus Revolution: Coming to Australian Cinemas April 20!
The blockbuster movie ‘Jesus Revolution’ is being released in Australian cinemas on 20 April!
The film centres around a young Greg Laurie – one of today’s best-known evangelical pastors – and his rough journey to faith in Jesus through the ministry of Chuck Smith in California.
Only two weeks after its release in America, the film had already grossed $30.5 million at the box office. This is a better US domestic take than five of this year’s Best Picture nominees! Find out more about the ‘Jesus Revolution’ movie – including a trailer – in the video below:
Film producer Jon Erwin wrote that in developing the movie, he was “awestruck” by the parallels between the 60s and 70s hippie generation and the desperation of today. As Erin read more about what Time magazine called the ‘Jesus Revolution’,
“… the more I felt: Can this happen in my generation? Can this happen in my life?”
In fact, Greg Laurie’s book on which the film is based is titled, Jesus Revolution: How God Transformed an Unlikely Generation and How He Can Do It Again.
The film has done so well that Erwin made this remark: “I’ve Never Seen Such a Profound Response to a Movie”. He went on to say:
“That the movie came out as revivals are happening around the nation is so cool. And I love all the movies that we’ve gotten to make, but I’ve never seen such an incredibly profound response to a movie and, and lives changed as people watch it. So it’s a privilege to get to bring this movie to the screen.”
You can read more about Erwin’s story here.
Erwin has been so blown away by the response that he asks whether there is another revival in the air:
The team at the Canberra Declaration are thrilled to promote this movie as a way to share the gospel with others. Why not invite your friends and family to go and see the film with you?
If you are not able to find a showing at a cinema near you, you can use this link to make a group booking request. The more showings the movie receives, the more likely people who need to discover (or rediscover) Jesus will watch it in Australian cinemas.
Information and resources for groups and churches can be found on the Australian site here (and also on the USA site here). If you can’t find any information that you need, you can contact Bill Biddle at Crossroads Film Distribution here.
Yours for revival and good movies,
Warwick Marsh, Samuel Hartwich & Kurt Mahlburg
