A New Year Offers New Opportunities
As the New Year approached, I found myself singing a song written by Edith McNeill, made famous by Maranatha! Music back in the 1980s. I’m somewhat showing my age, but The Steadfast Love of The Lord is an oldie and a goodie.
The lyrics are inspired by an amazing several lines found in the Bible’s book of Lamentations, chapter 3 verses 22 and 23: ‘The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Thy faithfulness.’ Taken from the Revised Standard Version, I’m eternally thankful for mercies that never come to an end, that are new every morning.
Considering today is the 1st of January 2024, and the beginning of our six thousandth-ish rotation around the sun, it’s a good time to reflect on the year that’s been and the year ahead. Even if you don’t yet have a personal relationship with Father God, new mercies every morning bring encouragement to us all. If so, the morning of 1 January 2024 could be the greatest new mercy yet!
My family and I are certainly looking forward to 2024. 2023 has been a year of growth but also challenges. Hopefully, I’ll be relaxing and celebrating with family as you read this. My hope and prayer is that you are also able to carve out some time to relax and celebrate with family and friends. New mercies, indeed.
Dads4Kids continues to go from strength to strength, and we have some exciting things in store for 2024. Bookings for our next Courageous Online Fathering Course, which has been life-changing for so many dads, are open. Click here to find out more, and book your place today!
Wilson Chong, a Courageous Fathering Course Graduate, says in the video: “There are not many formats like this available to new dads, so I think it’s just a great opportunity to connect with like-minded gents.”
Bill Cortizo, a granddad and fellow Courageous Fathering Course Graduate, describes the course as ‘beautiful!’ The 10-week course is a commitment, but as Alex Williams, who has completed the course twice, says, “It’s really worth it.”
Lovework
Take some time to reflect on the year that’s been, and the year to come. What are some things you have learnt in 2023?
What are some positive changes you could make in your or your family’s life for the year ahead?
What’s something new you could do in 2024 to be a better dad?
When it comes to being the best dad you can be, as my friend Alex says in the Courageous Online Fathering Course Invitation Video, “It’s about becoming the love leader in the home.”
2024 offers new mercies, new opportunities.
This New Year’s Eve, recommit to leading in love and pursuing the positive changes you want to see in your family.
Yours for new opportunities,
Nathaniel Marsh

The Word clearly tells us how to speak about leaders, and claiming that Jesus used insulting, coarse or even vulgar language when speaking about Herod is just an excuse for our own carnality.

Take away the history of a people or a culture or a nation, and you effectively take away the people, the culture, and the nation. We are today what has gone before in our past. Being unmoored from our own past makes us quite vulnerable.

We must redouble our commitment to the family – especially fathers – as a lynchpin of Christian training. Children who lack a stable sense that theirs is a Christian household are most vulnerable to drifting away from the Church.

There is a lot to learn about the number 5 from a Jewish and Biblical perspective. In March 2025, we will step into 5950 according to the Essenes. This is a Jubilee year – a year of double 5, double grace, double breath of the spirit to behold, a time when slaves are ordained to be set free.
