Canon Press Offers $10 Million to Acquire Christianity Today, Restore Outlet’s Gospel Mission
Canon Press has submitted a $10 million offer to acquire Christianity Today, raising hopes among evangelicals that the magazine could return to Billy Graham’s founding vision after years of cultural compromise.
Christian publishing house Canon Press has moved to acquire Christianity Today, signalling a potential return to the magazine’s original evangelical mission.
The $10 million offer would see Canon Press purchase all assets of the influential publication, which was founded by Billy Graham in 1956.
Submitted September 29, the offer comes amid growing concern over Christianity Today’s cultural compromise and increased reliance on secular funding.
Canon Press emphasised its motivation in a formal offer letter, linking the acquisition to Billy Graham’s original vision and citing the late Charlie Kirk’s evangelistic influence in American culture.
“We have a publishing and streaming platform built to thrive in this new environment where Christians come under fire for expressing the most basic truths,” the letter states.
“Charlie Kirk carried the torch of Christianity Today’s founder Billy Graham as a global evangelist, and it is his legacy that we see the future of Christianity Today,” the offer letter continued.
“We appreciate Christianity Today and are confident that we can grow it to reach a larger audience and increase its impact, all while preserving that legacy.”
🚨🚨 A Christian publishing company is offering to buy Christianity Today. I have heard many Christians lament that @CTmagazine has been captured by worldly ideology and wish someone would restore it to Billy Graham’s intended purpose.

A Shift in Christianity Today’s Funding
Journalist Megan Basham, who broke the news via X, also highlighted that over half of Christianity Today’s 2023 revenue came from grants, including funds from the Hewlett Foundation, a major supporter of Planned Parenthood.
The financial shift at the magazine marks a notable change. In 2020, only 20% of the magazine’s revenue came from grants; by 2023, more than half of its income originated from institutional funding.
Basham argued that this reliance on funds from organisations aligned with pro-abortion agendas compromises the magazine’s integrity.
She tweeted, “Seems like it would be much better to have Billy Graham’s publication housed with a company like @canonpress that doesn’t take $$$ from abortion promoters.”
This is interesting, in looking into Christianity Today’s financials, I found that the mag is now taking money from the Hewlett Foundation (a MAJOR supporter of Planned Parenthood) to cover US elections.

As noted by Caldron Pool, Canon Press, based in Moscow, Idaho, is a Christian publisher known for Reformed and culturally conservative materials.
Its acquisition proposal describes a “cash-free, debt-free transaction, free and clear of all claims, liens, and encumbrances,” aimed at safeguarding and expanding the publication’s reach while preserving its evangelical legacy.
Restoring a Tarnished Brand
The offer letter frames the move as a strategic response to the challenges facing Christian media in the US. “We know the publishing business in America and the world is changing rapidly and fundamentally,” the letter notes.
Canon Press emphasises that under its stewardship, Christianity Today could regain its influence as a global evangelistic platform, faithfully reflecting Billy Graham’s founding mission.
For decades, Christianity Today served as a cornerstone of American evangelical discourse. Founded by Billy Graham to unite and inform believers, it historically championed Christian values in the public square.
Recent financial and editorial shifts, however, have sparked concern among its core readership, with critics more recently dubbing the magazine “Christianity Astray”.
Canon Press’s $10 million bid roughly matches Christianity Today’s net assets, reported at $9.9 million in 2023, according to Basham.
Observers note that the brand’s tarnished reputation among conservative evangelicals may make this an opportune moment for a mission-driven buyer to restore its standing.
Should the acquisition succeed, it would mark a major turning point for the magazine. Canon Press intends to combine publishing expertise with digital streaming capabilities to broaden readership while staying rooted in biblical principles.
At the time of writing, Christianity Today has not issued a public response to Canon Press’s offer.
UPDATE: Megan Basham just provided further details on X regarding Christianity Today‘s secular funding channels:
Yesterday, while looking into @canonpress offer to buy @CTmagazine, I discovered a grant from major abortion funder, the Hewlett foundation. When I started digging deeper, it turns out that CT has taken much more than one grant. They have taken more than $1 million from the second largest funder of Planned Parenthood in the country—an organization that massively promotes abortion and transgender ideology.
Interestingly, the grant started a few months after Russell Moore‘s arrival at CT. Secular left-wing money seems to follow him wherever he goes.
It is no secret that many Christians believe that Christianity Today has been compromised by leftism. But this is something even I would never have expected, especially given that, their news editor, (and soon to be editor-in-chief) @MarvinOlasky once made his name exposing the funding that Sojourners was taking from George Soros.
Now, his own employer is engaging in something orders of magnitude worse.
