I’ve been ridiculing the global warming stupidity since my days as a graduate student. Bill Gates has seen the light, but there is no satisfaction to be had in reading it. He and Melinda were convinced that humans were a pollutant that was killing the planet, and they embarked on a decades-long crusade to curb population growth. And they have wrought enormous damage by promoting this series of fictions.

The “overpopulation” myth has driven the attitudes of many young doctors and nurses whose attitude toward the over-65 crowd comes straight from the mouth of Ebeneezer Scrooge, whose thinking (via Dickens) was influenced by Thomas Malthus: Decrease the surplus population. Increasingly, our great utility is to serve as organ donors. Anything else, and we are just sucking up precious medical resources for what the young clinicians regard as a quality of life not worth their efforts to preserve.

(Why not just skip Malthus and Gates and return to full-on Darwinian selection, making doctors and nurses irrelevant and unnecessary? But I digress.)

Demographic Crisis

The efforts at curbing population growth are having catastrophic effects on national economies all over the world, as almost every nation is below replacement rate.

While the world population swelled after World War II, it wasn’t because people were having more children. My grandmother was one of 13, five of whom survived to adulthood. My wife is one of eight, and I’m one of five. Most families in my kids’ generation have just one or two children, and now an ever-increasing number of women are satisfying themselves by getting dogs instead of husbands and children. So, how does the world population explode if every generation is having fewer and fewer children?

We stopped dying like flies.

Vaccines and antibiotics that were developed in the immediate aftermath of World War II ensure that most children now live to reproductive age, and that adults live decades longer. So the world population had been largely preserved, and new members were added, swelling the ranks. But now the Baby Boom generation is beginning to die off. By mid-century, there will be catastrophic population implosions throughout the developed world. The map of global fertility below tells the story.

Abortion. Euthanasia. Physician-assisted suicide. Deprioritising the needs of the elderly. Denial of care. Contraception. Planned Parenthood. Marie Stopes International…

All fueled by the fiction that humans are a major pollutant on the planet. Here’s an article entitled: “Eco-friendly sex: What is it and how does it impact on climate change?” And all of this claptrap is replete with carbon footprint bogeymen to kill the mood, should young couples start getting frisky.

It’s not enough that Gates has had an epiphany of sorts. He needs to commit his considerable wealth to re-educating the planet and rebuilding the population that has begun to implode. And it matters greatly from an economic perspective.
Healthy economies need to grow at a rate of about 3% annually. China has learned that you can’t grow an economy by 3% annually via reducing the population by 50% in each generation.

Gates has done enormous damage. I’ll be impressed if he spends the rest of his days cleaning the mess he helped to create.
