Relishing in Redemption

Day 19: The Importance, Power, Effect and Joy of Relishing in Redemption

5 February 2026

3.6 MINS

Intention

To be filled with contagious joy for our redemption as we see God’s work in our lives, and pray for that same redeeming work in the lives of others.

Scripture

“But now, this is what the LORD says — he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.”

– Isaiah 43:1

Reflection

What does redemption mean? Here are some meanings:

  • To ‘buy back’,
  • To re-gain possession of something in exchange for payment,
  • To rescue or save (often at a personal cost),
  • Making amends for a fault or guilt,
  • A state of moral improvement after wrongdoing.

Does that sound familiar to our salvation?

God has redeemed us! He has intentionally created us, placed us here in this time in history, rescued us from darkness, has called us to be his own, and continues to transform us! Do you really believe it?

Try saying the verse above out loud… and to make it more personal — maybe replace the words ‘you’ with your name.

How does it feel? Amazing right?!

While salvation is our ‘redemption’ story, the Lord also continues to redeem so many things in our lives. As we listen to him, he reveals areas of our lives he wants to redeem and transform. However, in this process we often focus on our faults, or struggles more than HIS work redeeming them, and subsequently we don’t rejoice in our redemption as deeply as we should. I do not say this to shame anyone, rather that there is not only great blessing, but also power in intentionally recognising his redeeming work.

We know that this battle for ‘life’ that we are praying for in these 21 days is a spiritual one. But this battle did not begin over the life in the womb, the abortion-vulnerable parents, or those who have been affected in some way by abortion… The battle begins with us, and the testimony we have of God redeeming us — in all areas of our lives. This is significant. Hear what the Lord has to say about it in Scripture:

“They triumphed over him (Satan) by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.” (Revelation 12:11)

If the enemy can have us underestimate the impact of our testimony, and undermine the personal, deep joy in how God (initially and continually) redeems us — we will likely be more prideful, depleted, discouraged, insecure, weak, unapproachable and ineffective.

On the flip side, if we are filled with contagious joy in our redemption, sharing personal testimonies of what God is doing… the impact is huge! It:

  • Shifts the focus off us, and on to the Lord,
  • Inspires praise, which also protects us and overcomes the enemy,
  • Gives hope to every situation that feels broken, wounded or hopeless,
  • Keeps us humble, which is right and fitting for disciples of Christ. Humility also lends us to being approachable for anyone else struggling,
  • Rewards us with one of life’s greatest joys: seeing Almighty God at work in our lives, and in the lives of others!

As we give thanks for our redemption, we can now pray more intentionally for this same redeeming work in the lives of others too.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for calling us, for redeeming us, and making us your own! Would you also redeem our nation from its current dark path, to walk in surrender and adoration of you?

Loving Father, would you please grant us greater depth of joy, understanding, and revelation of your redeeming work, and use us in your redeeming work in the lives of others? Please grow in us teachable, humble, repentant and obedient hearts that love you above all else.

We love you, thank you and praise you, and ask these things in Jesus’ name.

Amen.
