Trump Admin. Launches Website for New and Expecting Mothers
The White House’s new Moms.gov platform offers mothers a centralised hub for pregnancy care, nutrition, mental health resources, and access to thousands of support centres.
In an effort to assist new and expecting mothers in finding resources on health and wellness and to help care for their babies, the Trump administration launched the new website Moms.gov on Mother’s Day.
The initiative, which was launched under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), was described by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as a way of “equipping mothers and fathers with the resources and information they need to build healthy, prosperous lives. Moms.gov delivers critical tools and support to help parents foster healthy pregnancies, strengthen young families, and create brighter futures for their children. This is how you Make America Healthy Again.”
Connecting Mothers to Free and Low-Cost Care
The site prominently features a link to a search engine for the over 2,750 pregnancy resource centres (PRCs) located across the country, which Moms.gov notes “offer pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, STD/STI testing and treatment, parenting support, childbirth classes, medical referrals, and material goods like clothes and diapers — at no cost to you.”
A recent Charlotte Lozier Institute study found that in 2024 alone, PRCs “provided a value of over $452 million in total medical care, support and education services, and material goods.” The study further found that “8 in 10 centres are providing free or low-cost medical services, staffed by over 10,000 medical professionals.”
The new site also features a link to a search engine for federally qualified health centres (FQHCs), which includes 1,400 FQHCs and 16,200 service sites. The centres “provide high-quality care, including primary care services, maternal care, and prenatal care, regardless of your ability to pay.”
In addition, Moms.gov provides nutrition recommendations and dietary guidelines for pregnant women, new mothers, and infants, noting that expecting mothers “should consume diverse nutrient-dense foods, including iron-rich meats, folate-rich greens and legumes, eggs, dairy, and low-mercury omega-3-rich seafoods like salmon, sardines, trout and should talk to their health care provider professional about taking a daily prenatal vitamin.”
Among other assets, the site also features guidance for mothers on breastfeeding, mental health, and adoption. Notably, the new site does not include information on in vitro fertilisation (IVF), a highly controversial conception procedure that involves the destruction of embryos and has less than a 20% success rate for women 41 and older. The Trump administration has previously promoted IVF through executive actions aimed at lowering the cost of the procedure.
Abortion Pill Controversy Looms in the Background
The White House’s new resource comes amid ongoing controversy and legal battles over the administration’s lack of action to reinstate safeguards surrounding the abortion pill, which has become the primary method of abortion employed in the US and has led to an overall increase in the abortion rate even after the Supreme Court’s overturn of Roe v. Wade in 2022.
The Trump administration’s inaction to reinstate abortion drug safeguards that were abandoned by the Biden administration has led to the pill being surreptitiously mailed into states with pro-life laws prohibiting the drug, which has led to thousands of abortions in pro-life states and increased concerns over dangerous health outcomes linked to the pill’s use.
Pro-life leaders like Family Research Council President Tony Perkins hailed the new site while also pointing to what PRCs are doing to combat the surge in abortion drug usage.
“This new website is a welcomed resource, and it’s encouraging to see pregnancy care centers featured within,” he wrote on X. “A nationwide network of over 2,700 pregnancy centers has long advocated for and assisted moms and babies — including a number of them that provide Abortion Pill Reversal, which helps offset the current mifepristone policy of the Trump administration.”
The Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) protocol is a progesterone-based treatment that women can receive to potentially reverse the effects of the abortion pill if taken within 24 hours. The Charlotte Lozier Institute has reported that “In 2024, 29% of pregnancy centres provided Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) as a service and 77% provided post-abortion support.”
“I look forward to the day when HHS changes its harmful abortion pill policy, but until that happens, I am thankful that the administration recognises the importance of pregnant moms and connects them to the incredible work of pregnancy care centres,” Perkins added.
Joy Stockbauer, who serves as a policy analyst for the Center for Human Dignity at FRC, also expressed gratitude for the new pro-life resource. “As a new mom, I commend the Trump administration for looking after the well-being of moms and their unborn children through this new resource,” she told The Washington Stand. “Having a baby should be a time of immense joy; improved access to supportive resources will help women enjoy motherhood to the fullest.”
