Our Brilliant Plan for ISIS Returnees: Wait and See if They Explode

26 May 2026

1.8 MINS

Canberra’s remarkable new anti-terror strategy.

I woke up the other day to reports that so-called ISIS brides who return to Australia won’t be required to undergo deradicalisation programs… unless they’re charged with a criminal offence.

Um… Isn’t the whole point of deradicalisation programs to deradicalise a person BEFORE they commit a crime?

If the report in The Sunday Telegraph is accurate, we are surely governed by the stupidest country on earth.

The Plan: Watch and Wait

Our authorities have decided that when these people return from one of the most radicalised places on earth, they’ll watch to see if they commit a terrorist act.

And if they do… THAT will be the sign that they need de-radicalisation.

I would have thought that if you leave Australia to join a bloodthirsty death cult like Islamic State … you’re radicalised. You need de-radicalisation. Now.

But apparently, our officials have devised a more innovative approach.

Let Them Settle In

If someone leaves Australia to join a medieval death cult whose hobbies include beheadings, slavery, and setting human beings on fire… the government’s response is… let’s not rush to judgment.

Let them settle back into Australia and, provided they don’t detonate anything, give them a Labor how-to-vote card.

But if they do go all full jihad on their neighbours, then – and only then – will Canberra scratch its chin and say … “You know, perhaps this individual could benefit from a deradicalisation course.”

Committing a crime, apparently, will be the clue.

Not the journey to Syria.

Not the voluntary association with homicidal fanatics.

Not having spent years surrounded by a murderous ideology.

No, no. The decisive evidence that someone needs deradicalisation will be when the person commits a crime.

At which point, authorities will spring into action with all the speed and urgency of a sloth filling out a risk assessment form.

Who’d Believe a Word They Say?

Call me old-fashioned, but if someone packs a suitcase, kisses the suburbs goodbye, and heads off to live under the black flag of a blood-soaked caliphate, I’m comfortable making a preliminary diagnosis.

Radicalised. Needs de-radicalisation. Now.

But that kind of common sense is apparently far too extreme for our government.

They expect us to accept that having chosen to live under the ISIS flag is… not necessarily disqualifying.

Some young people join a garage band. Others experiment with pot. And… some decide to throw in their lot with Islamists who crucify dissenters.

Who among us hasn’t made a regrettable choice?

And so our authorities will wait.

Like a man who sees smoke pouring from the engine but decides he’ll only call the mechanic after the car explodes.

How many times has the Albanese Government assured us that community safety is their top priority?

But who’d believe a word this government says?

    “Stupidity gone to seed!”
It was one of the sayings of a lady I worked with many years ago. I am saying it often now.
Hopefully a change of government will help.

Thanks again James for making the ludicrous so obvious.

I’ve been wondering; why are these women labelled ‘brides’? Are they not widows?… Or do they have husbands somewhere in the ISIS world?
    Just asking.

If there were signs of repentance and regret for going to Syria, it would help give some ray of hope that the ISIS brides might change or to have already changed their allegiances, and way of thinking. If the women have mentors and social workers who work closely with the families and next of kin, there may be some hope of assimilation. The amount of debriefing will be vast and any de radicalisation would need to be ongoing. If there was some gratitude in return, attempt to rebuild lives, and to become productive, it would help the whole situation and the Australian community would feel more hopeful about this repatriation scheme…Meanwhile, behind the smokescreen, it has been finally revealed that a mystery Australian lawyer has been negotiating the pathway for the ISIS brides and children to return and finalising passparts, travel and arrival times. Tax payers money no doubt has been used for flights and passports while ‘someone’ has had to pay the for the ‘officials’ times as they help these women and families move back home. Most Australians have all felt the lack of transparency from our Govt has added another layer to the whole saga.

PS I realise there is no de radicalisation program as the Fedreral Govt hasn’t deemed it necessary to be used with these ISIS brides but those who live with them will have to give informal debriefing and in some way help them adapt
