PM Albanese’s Struggle to Tell the Truth
From The Voice to negative gearing, Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has built a troubling pattern of broken promises — and voters are finally paying attention.
A mate of mine said to me recently, “How do you know when Anthony Albanese is lying?” Answer: “Because his lips are moving!” As harsh as that sounds, more and more people are coming to the same conclusion because the Prime Minister of Australia seems to struggle to tell the truth, especially when it’s not expedient to his political goals.
There is a reason why the PM is called ‘Albonocchio’, for like the famous little puppet who magically turned into a boy, Anthony Albanese is treating voters like donkeys. And what’s more, Jim Chalmers ain’t no Jiminy Cricket.
While some Christians might object that it’s not appropriate for a pastor to be critical of someone in authority, those very same believers have absolutely no problem at all in calling out the many flaws of Donald Trump. But it’s also worth remembering just how serious unrepentant lying is in the sight of God. (See Acts 5:1-11; Revelation 21:6-8)
The Press Gallery Finally Asks the Hard Question
Even the mainstream media has started calling the government out. Just consider the following question Mark Riley, the Political Editor for 7NEWS, asked Jim Chalmers during the Q&A session at the National Press Club address in Canberra, following the release of the Federal Budget:
Just in case you missed it, Riley asked:
Treasurer, I just wanted to take a broader look at your decision to change negative gearing and CGT and the implications that has on your government, and the complexion of your government.
The reasons you’ve given today is that the young generations are locked out of the housing market [but] that was apparent abundantly before the last election. So abundantly that in the Prime Minister’s words, we asked him and you and others at least fifty times whether you were going to change these tax arrangements and you said no.
A lot of people were compelled to vote for the Albanese government in 2022 and again in 2025 because of that promise of openness and accountability and integrity. You would be a different government.
Won’t those voters wake up this morning and say, “You’re not different. You’ve just proved that you’re another lying government.”
I must say that the pause and anxious look of Chalmers before he then attempted to spin his way out of it really says it all. The current Labour government has been caught out lying again and again and again.
In the lead up to the last election, even ‘Albonocchio’ himself impatiently acknowledged how he had literally stated “for the fiftieth” that he wouldn’t touch negatively gearing. Don’t believe me? Then let’s go back and check the videotape:
Every politician needs to realise that not only does the internet never forget, but breaking a key election promise is not the same thing as simply “changing one’s mind”. This is not the same thing as deciding to have a cappuccino instead of a flat white.
The Labour Government’s poll is now rightly in free fall, which is providing yet another boost to the Opposition and in particular, One Nation. But whereas Southampton has been sensationally expelled from this year’s Premier League play-offs for something far less (they were caught spying on opposition teams’ training sessions), the Australian public is stuck with this tax hike for at least another two years.
A Pattern of Deception — From The Voice to Your Mortgage
None of this should surprise anyone, though, since the current Labour government has repeatedly demonstrated an inability to tell the truth. In August 2023, I wrote another article in The Spectator Australia highlighting this particular character flaw in the lead-up to the referendum on the Voice. All the way back then, I exposed the Prime Minister as having lied, citing no less than four examples:
The Prime Minister firstly spoke from what Rowan Dean referred to as ‘both sides of his mouth’, saying Indigenous Australians that we shouldn’t ‘be content with modest change’ but then to everyone else he insisted The Voice was only a ‘modest request’. But it clearly cannot be both.
Second, Mr Albanese said to Ben Fordham that The Voice had nothing to do with a Treaty, when the Explanatory Memorandum for The Voice clearly demonstrates that it does.
Third, he said that the Uluru Statement from the Heart was only one page when Peta Credlin had shown that it was part of a 26-page document (which can be viewed here).
And then finally, Albanese admitted to Neil Mitchell that he hasn’t ‘even read’ the Uluru Statement from the Heart in full, despite repeatedly promising to implement it in full.
The thumbnail which the brilliant cartoonist Ben Davis generously produced for that piece back then is just as potent—and indeed prescient—as it sadly still is today. The current government obviously has a massive problem with telling the truth. The even greater problem, though, is that the majority of Aussies keep falling for the lie.

There might have been something going on the pasts of these politicians. Dostoevsky was an acute judge of the human condition:
’Above all, don’t lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to such a pass that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. ‘
Fyodor Dostoevsky The Brothers Karamazov 1880
Thank you Mark for the article exposing the trail or deceit and lies by our Prime Minister…It remains a national tragedy to have this occurring at a time when so many hard-working Australians are just trying to make a living, provide for family, and to save for a home or to pay rent. Ones like the farmers have worked all their lives to provide produce for the nation, truck drivers have sought to deliver the goods, others have helped sell them while soldiers and Defence force have asked for the equipment they need, and hospitals are so short staffed and schools under immense pressure, as are rail systems and roads, builders and those paying for fuel increases. There are now millions struggling with the younger generation wondering how they will cope and their own children. The broken promises leave a trail of disaster revealing a broken Govt, broken economy and social cohesion breaking down with crime and violence and an influx of many who don’t aim to assimilate. Above all we need an honest Federal Govt and Prime Minister who genuinely cares and who can strategically plan ahead and admit where expenditure has been incorrectly used.
Proverbs 6:16 “These things the Lord hates: A proud look, A lying tongue…” but it is our responsibility as Christians to pray through for a righteous and honest Goverment as we ask for mercy and a turning of the tide.
a compulsive liar does not have any standing in the eyes of God, I feel that most people will lie if it is to advantage however most if not all will be compelled to speak the truth when the life and health of millions is concerned, this person is next level when it comes to lying, the list of lies grows almost daily, it will be a very long next 2 years, my heart cries for those already struggling.
How can people expect integrity from Tony the half Tosk Albanian who calls himself ” a cultural Catholic “? Look at his background! Would you trust this man ? NO ! From me a half Gheg (meaning “giant” ) Albanian descended from the sister of Albanian’s great Christian hero, Prince George Castrioti ( Scanderbeg ). We Ghegs are known as Catholic and patriots, the Tosks as short and Socialists. I rest my case. He and his MPS have destroyed the hopes and dreams of all generations of Australians with taxes and more taxes . This is only the beginning !
CGT was instituted by PM Keating who , also, was responsible for mortgage interest going as high as 18%. I was lucky that I made some money before CGT came in. It is a regressive tax which keeps people poor. My background is ATO Income Tax Assessor, Legal Researcher, Negotiator, Investigator of minor cases, expert in Bankruptcy and Liquidations, etc.
Originally, Income Tax was introduced in Australia as a TEMPORARY measure while war was on. The Labor Party is being pressured to bring in Inheritance Tax and to include the Family Home in the Aged Pension Asset Test. Be careful how you vote. Me ? I trust One Nation which has a lot of sensible policies to assist small business, farmers and young and old .
