Day 22: 31 October — A Catalytic Day for Reformation and Revival
Intention
To be inspired by the history of revival on 31 October, gather together on that day, and ask God to bring reformation and revival again.
Scripture
“And it will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all people.”
– Acts 2:17
Reflection
I find it interesting that this Awaken season of prayer and fasting ends on 31 October, a historic day for reformation and revival. The momentum leading up to that date is no accident. It is an opportunity to unlock fresh outpourings of the Spirit across the nation.
On 31 October, 1517, Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses on the door of the Wittenberg church. His intention was to invite debate over these issues within the Catholic Church.
But under God’s hand, it became the catalyst for the Protestant Reformation. The theses were translated into German, printed on the newly invented Gutenberg printing press, and spread rapidly. People broke free from religious systems that had held them for centuries, which opened the way for them to worship in spirit and in truth.
Nearly four hundred years later, on 31 October, 1904, Evan Roberts (1878–1951) returned to his hometown in Wales and led a meeting in which seventeen people confessed Christ. He had long prayed for revival, and now, he recognised that the answer to his prayer had begun. We call it the Welsh Revival.
Within six months more than 100,000 people were saved, and the movement spread from Wales through the British Isles and beyond. Many believe the Welsh Revival was a precursor to later Holy Spirit outpourings, such as the Azusa Street Revival.
These two events show that 31 October is pregnant with potential to once again be a powerful day to ignite reformation and revival. For those who are brave enough to step out in faith and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, there is a deep well of revival to be accessed on this date.
Since 2012, our community of revivalists has hosted an annual encounter night on 31 October to seek God for an even greater reformation and revival, and to worship him with all our strength. Each year more groups around the world join in.
I encourage you to gather with friends this year — share Holy Spirit stories, pray, and lift up the name of Jesus. By giving him higher praise, we can release a fragrance of worship that pleases the heart of God and causes the darkness to tremble.
Let’s take back this significant day in history.

Prayer
Holy Spirit, bring reformation and revival again for the sake of our nation, and for your name’s sake.
As you did at Pentecost, pour yourself out, igniting our hearts with love for you, and unlock the floodgates of living waters across our nation.
Jesus, consume us with a passion for you, and you alone. We lay our lives down afresh in total surrender. Let us be yielded vessels available to be poured out, wherever we are, for your glory. Amen.

Prayer Points for October 2026
We are praying for the Church to:
- Awaken to her first love for Jesus (Ephesians 5:14; Revelation 2:4).
- Awaken to evangelism so that millions will trust in Christ (John 3:16; Proverbs 11:30).
- Awaken to her prophetic voice to the nation (Isaiah 52:1; Matthew 14:4).
We invite you to support this campaign to multiply prayer in Australia for revival and see millions come to faith in Christ. Every donation to the Canberra Declaration helps us promote prayer and make a stand for family, faith, freedom, life, and the good news of God’s love through Jesus Christ.
