Introducing the Canberra Declaration’s latest book, co-authored by Kurt Mahlburg and Warwick Marsh — Jesus: The Centre of It All.

Over the last few months, Warwick and I have been working overtime to see our latest book project to completion. We are thrilled that Jesus: The Centre of It All is now available for pre-order — and just in time for Christmas!

There’s No Denying the Centrality of Jesus

Jesus is undeniably the centre of all things. He is by far the most influential figure in history. Western civilisation especially has been profoundly shaped by His life and teachings. We mark every date on our calendar in reference to Him. Jesus is the subject of more artwork, literature and music than any other individual who ever lived. He is the founder of the world’s biggest faith, Christianity, and is the main character of the world’s bestselling book, the Bible, which has some 7.5 billion copies in circulation. And at Christmas, Jesus is the reason for the season!

As the Scriptures say, “For in him all things were created… He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:16-17).

For all these reasons, I (Kurt) have loved working on Jesus: The Centre of It All. Here, condensed into just over 200 pages, are all of the most important things I have learned about Jesus during two decades of knowing Him and walking with Him. Add to that five decades’ worth of Warwick’s walk with Jesus, and we trust that this will be a very valuable read for everyone who picks it up.

Every chapter comes complete with a study guide that includes a prayer, a link to a worship song, a key Scripture and a set of discussion questions. Our aim was to create a resource that is great for personal use and also group settings.

A Book for Christians and non-Christians Alike

We wrote Jesus: The Centre of It All for two overarching reasons. The first is to encourage believers to better behold Jesus, meditate on Him and grow in their love for Him. There are many things that fight for our loyalty and attention. The apostle Paul acknowledged this fact when he warned God’s people not to be distracted “from the simplicity that is in Christ” (2 Corinthians 11:3). Our hope is that in the pages of this book, followers of Jesus will behold “God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:6), and thereby be transformed “with ever-increasing glory” (2 Corinthians 3:18).

The second reason we wrote this book is to introduce non-Christians to Jesus. While seeking to be faithful to the Bible, we have deliberately used language that is not overly complicated or theological. We have anticipated and answered many popular objections to the central claims of Christianity. We have also sought to imitate Jesus by telling lots of stories as a vehicle for spiritual truth. In particular, each of us have shared our own stories of how we came to faith in Jesus and how He has transformed our lives.
