Indigenous Embassy Jerusalem: First Nations Speakers Stand with Israel

The 100th embassy to Israel and the 5th embassy to open in Jerusalem was history-making in that it is an initiative of Indigenous Christians from around the world. Located at the Friends of Zion Museum, the embassy was opened by Jerusalem’s Deputy Mayor Fleur Hassan-Nahoum on 1 February this year.

Dr Sheree Trotter and former MP the Hon. Alfred Ngaro, both of New Zealand’s Indigenous Coalition for Israel, were key initiators of this embassy, and the Indigenous Friends of Israel International, co-founded by Ps Norman Miller and myself, is hosting a Zoom meeting with the Hon. Alfred Ngaro as a speaker on Monday 24 June at 7pm AEST.

Norman and I were invited to the opening of the embassy in Jerusalem and a follow-up First Nations Summit recently in Canada to discuss the embassy, but were not able to make it. However, we have invited the host, Grand Chief Lynda Prince, to speak at our Zoom event along with an Australian Jewish speaker.

Reconciliation

At the opening of the Indigenous Embassy Jerusalem, a South African tribal leader apologised for the South African government’s taking Israel to court for war crimes. Here is a video of the wonderful event with so many First Nations people attending:

The featured photo above is of the Walk With Israel on 9 June, with 50,000 Canadian Jews and allies participating. At the front were representatives of the recently founded Indigenous Embassy Jerusalem, who arrived from New Zealand, Edmonton, Thunder Bay, and Sault St Marie.

They came directly from an international summit of Indigenous Leaders in Seattle, attended by embassy co-founders Dr Sheree Trotter and Hon. Alfred Ngaro, and their spouses.

Homeland

The pro-Palestinian movement has been trying to claim that the Palestinians are the Indigenous people of Israel who were dispossessed by European Jews who settled Israel after the Holocaust as colonialists. They are also trying to co-opt Australian and other Indigenous peoples to their cause with Aboriginal flags used at some of their protests.

However, Indigenous people are asserting that the Jews are Indigenous to Israel and that Indigenous people stand with the Jewish people against antisemitism and the right of the Jews to live in their historic homeland.
