Jordan Peterson Faces New Health Battle, Pauses Podcast and Asks for Prayer
Jordan Peterson (JP) is taking a sabbatical.
Health concerns are forcing the conservative heavyweight to take some downtime due to an overexposure to mould, inflaming an ongoing medical condition.
Peterson has Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS), which, according to a post from his daughter on X, “flared up during a cleaning of her late grandfather’s house.”
Mikhaila Peterson said the genetic condition affects about 25% of people. JP’s version, she added, is the most severe. (Think mould illness, or chronic fatigue syndrome).
“Over the last year or so, JP’s been feeling the impact of CIRS more and more,” she explained.
His infamously controversial carnivore diet was “helping keep the symptoms under control, but it hasn’t been enough recently.”
This is not about medication. He’s on none, she asserted. It is “an immune system dysfunction”.
Praising God for the diagnosis, Mikhaila said, it finally gives a name to why he’s been experiencing “multiple health issues since 2017.”
This also explains why some of JP’s recent planned appearances have been cancelled, and why he’s been feeling weepy (due to pain) and worn out.
Such as a planned three-day stop at a business conference in Brazil promoted by Brasil Paralelo.
For now, even the Jordan Peterson Podcast, which puts out content twice a week, is on hold. As are any events where JP was scheduled to appear.
Knowing what’s going on health-wise, Makhaila added, means a faster recuperation period. There is treatment, and “he’s responding well, although it’s pretty rough.”
Blinkered
Peterson’s daughter also criticised the medical establishment for its unwillingness to concede that there is a link between mould and chronic illness.
“That doctors don’t generally recognise that mould exposure in indoor air is causing chronic health issues is insane.”
It’s “the cause behind their food sensitivities and inability to tolerate anything other than meat (for eight years now), multiple disorders and diseases in her family,” Makhaila declared.
“The fact that this is virtually unrecognised by the medical community is absurd.”
Listing precedents where, after dismissing both for years, the medical establishment finally recognised cause and remedy, she remarked,
“This indoor air quality problem that causes Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome will be commonly diagnosed in the next 5-10 years.”
“I am positive about that.”
It happened, she said, “with ketogenic diets as a treatment for mental illness, and psych medication withdrawal.”
Peterson then drew from her own lengthy battle with similar health concerns, arguing for the medical establishment and building codes to be changed.
Awareness about mould-related illness is the first step. Getting more fresh air indoors matters.
“Mould toxicity manifests in people exposed equally, differently.”
“Everyone should take this extremely seriously if they have psychological, autoimmune, or neurodegenerative disorders,” Makhaila concluded.
Apologising on JP’s behalf, his daughter explained that this isn’t the end. Jordan Peterson’s current treatment suggests a faster recovery than expected.
Makhaila ended the announcement asking for prayer and thanking supporters for their understanding.
She also encouraged people to stay connected by tapping into some new content on JP’s YouTube page. Specifically, episodes of Answer the Call, a father-daughter initiative sponsored by The Daily Wire.
The gist is that both JP and Makhaila take live calls and attempt to share their thoughts on whatever topic drops.
Jordan, while publicly reserved about identifying with Christ, does identify as a Christian. So does his wife, Tammy, and Makhaila.
Would you consider praying for them and his son Julian?

Thanks for sharing…Yes we will pray ..God wants all people saved and to come to a knowledge of and relationship with Jesus Christ our Saviour.
Thanks for sharing. Why is JP so reserved about his identity as a Christian? Look at the current White House, where there is a Christian leadership team led by Trump — including the Secretary of Defense, the White House Press Secretary, the Director of National Intelligence, and others. They take pride in Christ, and God is leading them in a righteous battle of ideas. Pray for his repentance. “What if someone says in front of others that they know me? I will also say in front of my Father who is in heaven that I know them. But what if someone says in front of others that they don’t know me? I will say in front of my Father who is in heaven that I don’t know them.
(Matthew 10:32-33 NIrV)
Will pray. But I’m sceptical about JP being a christian. I haven’t heard any of his podcasts for a couple of months but my understanding is that he’s searching and on some level understands that Christ is the answer. However his education and training is holding him back, such as the way he’s been trained to see mythos in religious texts.
I think he’s right to be cautious, and agree that his response to Christ is weighed down by his tertiary conditioning. He has enough haters maybe JP is simply just fighting one battle at a time here? As much as we may hope he steps into a vanguard role, that might not be his calling at this stage. This said, a public confession of faith is as important as a private one. The rich young ruler comes to mind.
I don’t think his reservations are about his Christian walk with God it’s ready to observe he has one. In the public domain as he is People organisation claim you for one of their own Always has been like that or they zoom in on anything they disagree with. It’s called religion as they are Right
We all walk humbly before God which ever way chosen its yours Yay and to quote scripture as if to say. JP doesnot announce his individual journey in God
Therefore. There’s no acceptance from God for him is nonsense. Jesus declared It is finished meaning. Sin and judgment
Now ours to have the relationship with him
It’s great that Jesus judges no man Yay
Healing will come to him. That’s just like God Thanks JP for taking us out of religious dogma And I’ve heard him talking relationship to that higher power the God we serve and joy in Many times
He’s coming from a different way of seeing God Not pew warming and singing only
Our groups are loving this. admit it expands you and lights are switched on greater
Meanings and different . All in Jesus name
I
Agreed. Performative Christianity negates the Gospel and hinders evangelism. Much the same way Christian institutionalism complicates the “be in the world, but not of it” NT imperative.
I remember hearing JP answer this one. He was confronted about why he didn’t just outright say he is a Christian. He said (As I recall)…”.The Jews call me Rabbi, The Muslims say I am one of them….I’m speaking to a lot of people right now”. We all know he is a Christian….He is wisely preaching to the non Christians and winning many to Christ I have heard…I believe it was Paul that said…”becoming all things to all men that I might win some” 1 Cor 9:22. This is that verse in action. Jesus bless Jordan. Thank You for him. A unique vessel for Your Glory. Put Your arms around him bring him comfort and peace, wisdom and grace in Jesus Blessed Name Amen.
Amen. God knows JP’s heart.
Makhaela Peterson is probably right about buiding codes causing ill health. The green codes requiring totally sealed rooms without air vents, plus the recycled air heating and cooling, with plastics emitting poisonous fumes, creates an unhealthy unnatural environment.
Good point about the green codes, and ultimate energy efficiency.
