Chelsea FC Platforms the Gospel in Unfiltered Interview with New Defender Maxence Lacroix
Chelsea star Maxence Lacroix openly shares his journey from football struggles to faith in Jesus, describing a miraculous healing and his decision to follow Christ.
Here’s a surprise: Chelsea Football Club shared the Gospel freely and unfiltered in a video featuring Maxence Lacroix on Friday.
When the French-speaking 26-year-old recounted how his faith is a big part of his career, he was allowed to explain why.
Alongside family, Lacroix said, “It’s everything.”
“I didn’t grow up in a Christian family, but I really met Jesus some years ago.”
“That totally changed my life to work like He wants.”
“It was a beautiful journey,” Lacroix reflected, adding that it’s “not finished, of course, but it’s like the foundation of my life.”
“This helped me every single day, every single moment. Sometimes in football, you know, you have ups and downs.”
Because of that, he said, “It’s really important to have something different than just human beings. Jesus was the answer to all of the questions or difficulties I had before.”
“This is why I’m so happy to make the journey with Him.”
From Football Struggles to Seeking Jesus
Lacroix, who went pro in 2017, almost didn’t make it.
As the new Chelsea player told ministry Jesus My Goal, life without Jesus Christ wasn’t working.
“I had red cards, injuries, and didn’t play well,” he explained.
“Everything around me didn’t work. I thought: ‘What’s going on here? I do everything right, I’m professional, but it still doesn’t work out.’”
This was when Lacroix says he started “really looking for Jesus.”
He’d badly injured his thigh in a match, and doctors weren’t optimistic.
“They saw there was some kind of bullet in the thigh muscle.”
The injury forced him out of the rest of the season.
“It was difficult for me,” Lacroix recalled.
“So, I thought a lot and told myself I was going to ask God. I’m going to ask Jesus.”
“I went to my room and prayed a real prayer with faith for the first time in my life. Not like ‘yes, Jesus, I need that.’”
It was, Lacroix asserted, a prayer from the heart.
Afterwards, he recounted thinking there would be sparks.
Nothing happened.
Not until the next morning. When he got up, Lacroix said, his injuries were gone.
“God Has Touched Me”
“Usually when you are injured and get up the next day,” he explained, “you try to touch what hurts you and feel something. But in fact, there was nothing.”
Shocked, he remembers noticing sweaty goosebumps and feeling a little scared.
Processing, he questioned whether the healing was real. Deep down, though, Lacroix said he “knew that a miracle had actually happened.”
Doctors then ran tests and found nothing. No injuries were present, despite them being there the day before.
“They felt a bullet, but nothing more the next day,” he said.
To this, he added, “I also got scared to admit to myself, ‘Oh, yes, something really happened that night.’”
Cautiously sharing the honest prayer and the apparent answer to it with a trusted colleague, they encouraged Lacroix to see this as a miracle; as Jesus revealing himself.
Lacroix was still unsure. He admitted, knowing “something had happened, but was stubborn.”
He did more tests, including an MRI, and the only thing they could “see [was] a small water retention, nothing else.”
At that moment, Lacroix gave in, saying, “God has touched me, and now I can’t look away.”
“Because God touched me. I decided at that moment to change my life and to follow Jesus completely,” he declared.
“It was the best day of my life. In fact, faith has changed everything in my life. And I like to say that I am a new person.”
A New Life and a Free Gift
Everything is new, Lacroix testified. “My behaviour is different, and it all happened by God’s grace.”
“The foundation has changed completely, and that’s really because I was born again.”
“Being a new person,” he concluded, “is exactly what I experienced.”
Committed, Lacroix then preached the no-cross, no-crown Gospel, stating:
“For me, Jesus is the one who really saved my life. He saved my life because I became aware of what he had done for me.”
“He was a man who was God, who came and gave his life for us who were sinners.”
“For me, this is the greatest deed that has ever been done because he saved us. He reconciled people with the Father. And that really touches me.”
Jesus’ sacrifice, Lacroix said, “is a gift.”
He now tries to share his testimony at every opportunity, and talks about the Gospel, reminding people that “this gift is free.”
As he told Jesus My Goal, “If you want to know Jesus, you have to look for him and find out what he has done in his life.”
“The best way to learn what he did and how he lived is to read the Bible.”
Thankfully, with FIFA 2026 putting the Christian faith on the World Cup stage, Lacroix is not a vocal minority.
When we see the secular platforming the sacred the way Chelsea Football Club has, it’s newsworthy.
They’re un-cancelling Christ and saluting the broader “crown down” culture shift.
