COVID19 Call to Prayer – June 24: The Mighty One
The Mighty One, God, the LORD,
speaks and summons the earth
from the rising of the sun to where it sets.
From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth.
Our God comes and will not be silent;
a fire devours before Him,
and around Him a tempest rages.
~ Psalm 50:1-3
Christians have different views about the Second Coming (of course mine is the correct one – but I’m not telling you!), but we all agree on this. Jesus is coming again and there will be a day of judgement – a day when all wrongs will be put right. I wonder how much we are like the early Church who frequently prayed ‘Maranatha’ – even so, come soon, Lord Jesus!
“When corruption rises, pray it down – as St Paul did.”
~ Sibbes
Petition: Please join with us in praying for:
1. The USA – Having prayed through the 50 most affected countries (Australia is 71st on the list), we return to the most affected. The number of confirmed cases is 2,332,850, with 121,029 deaths of those with Covid-19. Some in the US are experiencing a resurgence of cases.
2. Tasmania – now has had 228 cases (up 0 from a week ago), with 13 deaths (up 0).
In Australia, there have been 7,492 cases (up 18). Again, all community cases are in Victoria.
There have been 102 deaths (up 0). 6,915 people have recovered (up 12).
19 are in hospital (3 in ICU). 2,132,821 have been tested, with 0.4% being positive.
3. Saudi Arabia has announced that pilgrimage to Mecca this year is to be severely restricted.
4. Dr Anthony Fauci, the US infectious diseases expert, says that he believes it is likely a Covid-19 vaccine will be ready by the end of the year. Pray he is right.
5. For those Christians whose finances have been severely affected by this crisis. That they would know the Lord’s provision.
A Prayer of Repentance:
Lord Jesus, we confess that we do not long for Your return as much as we should.
Sometimes when we see the mess in this world, we long for it to be over.
Help us instead to long for You – to know that when we see You,
we shall be like You, for Your glory. Amen.
A Prayer of Thanksgiving:
Our Father, we praise Your name.
You are good and the giver of all things good.
You give us all things richly to enjoy.
May we worship You the Giver, rather than the gifts.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
