The Greens have never yet seen a tragedy they didn’t believe they could transform into an opportunity.

Take the devastating floods in Nepal.

Thirty-nine Australians are missing. But even as the search for those lost souls gets underway, Christine Milne has weaponised the disaster against coal and gas.

The former Greens leader took to social media to deliver her verdict:

“Aust media must report the truth behind Nepal glacier collapse.

“Global heating is destabilising glaciers in the Himalayas.

“When Albo sends his sympathy and deep concern, he also needs to explain to Nepalese that Aust intends to make it worse with new coal and gas.”

A Remarkable Theory

When tragedy strikes in Nepal, the first thing Australians should do is check whether someone in Queensland has been operating a coal mine.

It’s a remarkable theory. Not least because Nepal sits between China and India, two of the world’s largest emitters.

Yet somehow Australia, thousands of kilometres away, is being summoned before the climate tribunal.

Australia must repent.

Australia must atone.

Australia must stop digging up coal and gas.

And naturally, the Australian taxpayer must pay the penance.

The funniest part was Milne’s suggestion that Anthony Albanese must personally explain to the Nepalese people his part in the disaster.

Whatever Christine Milne is smoking, I want some. It’s clearly a trip!

Every Disaster Needs a Sinner

There’s something deeply religious about these days about environmental politics.

Every disaster must have a sin.

Every sin must have a sinner,

And the sinner must invariably be Australian capitalism.

But here’s what I want to know.

Who does Christine Milne blame for the destruction of the last Ice Age?

Was it BHP?

Was it Woodside?

Or was some particularly irresponsible Neanderthal driving a coal-powered mammoth?

Thirty-nine Australians are missing.

Families are waiting for answers.

And before the rescuers have finished searching, the climate preachers have already climbed into the pulpit.

Not to comfort the congregation, but to tell them who to blame.

And, as always, the sinner is the same.

Australia must repent. For the Nepalese flood.

Lord have mercy!
