It is impossible to understand Hamas without engaging with the concepts of “Palestine” and “Palestinians”. The meaning of “Palestine” is complicated. It has changed over the years, and it is disputed and controversial.

What has become clear is that Hamas is not the greatest threat to the nation of Israel, but all devout followers of Islam. Just take, for example, the recent events in Russia.

Of the Muslims who have come out to protest in support of Hamas, many will be sympathetic to and shaped by the spiritual dynamics described in this and previous posts.

While thousands of Muslims marched through the streets of London chanting anti-semitic slogans last week, British police were busy fining a Christian woman for praying — in her head — outside an abortion clinic.

Hamas pursues a genocidal war, while blaming Israel for prolonging the conflict. This way, Hamas can have its cake and eat it too: Israel is blamed for the failure of a two-state solution, while Hamas plans for genocide.

UK television aired an interview last week with a British Palestinian woman complaining about the evils of Islamophobia in England. But ITV didn’t tell viewers that the woman had, just days earlier, publicly cheered the Hamas slaughter of Jews as a “moment of triumph”.

Hamas is an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood. Founded in 1988, Hamas’ name is an acronym for “Islamic Resistance Movement” in Arabic.

There’s little to no justification for middle-of-the-road morality on this subject. There is no “free Palestine” while Palestinians are chained to the Islamist beast.

What lies ahead is a hard, bitter war. This is not a war which can be resolved through a negotiated settlement. Hamas has shown the world, in its own bloody way, that this is a war to destroy Israel together with its people.

The ongoing, deadly attack on Israel by Hamas could never have taken place without the active support of the last two Democratic administrations.
