Fight for Western Civilisation
Have you noticed that people seem to be more interested in politics these days?
Everyone seems to be more interested in what is going on in the world. Even people that you used to think were apolitical are chiming in with an opinion about the issues of the day.
I guess this is because we all know that something is up with the world right now. We all sense it, that we are living in significant times. The cultural divide and conflict in the West seems to be getting more intense by the day, and many of us are wondering why it is like this, and where it is all heading.
It is getting hard to ignore that there is a fundamental difference of worldview and vision of what direction the West should be going in, and we’re all being forced to pick a side whether we like it or not.
Because of this, elections have become more interesting. Who could forget the incredible sense of energy around the 2016 US election for example?
We know the stakes are higher now. We know deep down that ultimately one side is going to lose and one side is going to win the culture wars. And while some people like to remind us that reality is complex and not black and white, this only goes so far. On an individual or small scale this is fine, but when you are talking about mass populations it is irrelevant. A healthy society needs basic social cohesion and agreement on how things should be working.
You can not have a healthy society where one side believes abortion is murder and the other side believes it is a fundamental human right. Or where one side believes that binary gender norms are morally essential and the other side believes that transgender people are oppressed. Or where one side believes cohesive cultural identity is core, and the other side believes that the West is an oppressive white supremacist regime that must be dismantled. There are many other examples that could be used.
We are not a country at peace
Don’t you find yourself longing for a nation that is not at war with itself?
A civilization that is not at war with itself?
Sometimes I find myself dreaming of a country without this chaos. A country where there is peace and harmony and a sense of shared identity. A country where the basic foundations are secure.
I imagine what it would be like in Australia if there were no identity politics. No bitter and hostile divide over essential things. Where the traditional Christian European foundations of Australia are recognized rather than subversively undermined at every turn.
There is always going to be some political disagreement and debate that is normal and healthy. But the basic foundations of what society and the nation is need to be agreed upon for this to happen, and that is not where we are at today.
Why we need to fight
The truth is we are in a culture war that is real, whether we like it or not, and the cultural transformation and subversive takeover of key institutions in our society didn’t happen overnight. It was fought for long and hard by people with fierce ideological conviction and passion.
The West needs to rediscover its warrior spirit and fight back. Absolutely nothing will change without a fight. If we are not fighting for something, then what are we here for?
Should Christians be talking about fighting? Some don’t like this kind of talk, or they think that Christians ‘seeking power’ is wrong. But Romans 13 says governmental power is from God. The only question in a democratic society is who will wield power and what values will reign. Will we allow the march towards unreason and oppression of religious freedom win?
The further leftward the country goes, the less peace there will be in the nation. The subversives think they are creating a utopia. In reality they are creating an eventual warzone. We have no choice but to resist.
Political events count more now than ever
I encourage you to pray carefully about your vote this election. Don’t be apathetic. I know the technicalities of the political process can be boring, but it counts now. It is not business as usual at the moment. The West is either moving towards a new Dark Ages or another Renaissance.
I believe with persistence, we are going to turn things around. There are many encouraging signs, such as the growing revolution among many younger people who are completely fed up with society’s empty values and turning back to the West’s Christian foundations.
Yet it won’t come without a fight, and the choices we make do matter in determining what the outcome will be.

Depending on which echo chamber you get your news from, last week Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg took steps to either save democracy, or to end it. Zuckerberg announced several changes to Meta’s moderation approach, including replacing third-party fact-checkers with a user-driven Community Notes model.
A succinct and accurate assessment and great fuel for prayer. Thank you for the truth.
We let them take over the entertainment industry, our educational institutions and the media. The socialist left have brainwashed a generation, now that generation are brainwashing the next. Straight thinking people must stand up and be counted, be loud and be very vocal. Our brave soldiers fought for this country, I wonder what they would think of it now.
Culture war for sure. The country our children will inherit will be influenced greatly by the battles being fought now. I’m with Mark Latham in his maiden speech. No surrender!
Well said Conor but I don’t agree that more people are interested in politics these days. I believe many people are apathetic or uninformed.Too many see important long term issues through a very narrow lens.
Thank you, Conor. Thinking deeply is a quality we seem to be losing in our modern society where we tend to skim the surface of real issues. We need to go deeper to address the problems we are facing as a nation…ones that all western nations are facing. You are right. We won’t give up without a fight and it is encouraging to see many entering in to address these issues in the community, on social media and in groups of praying believers.
Isn’t that the truth! Amen
I think people have become more interested because they cant believe how eaisly influenced our political parties are to minority groups. They are not liking what they see.
I agree. Governments are pushing us to believe Australia is a ‘multicultural’ country. I believe we are ‘multi-racial’, but the culture should always be ours – i.e. the Australian way as developed over past generations!
Amen amen
Thankyou for the plain truth, this is exactly what is happening in our society,we need a return to our Christian roots for Australia to flourish.
Brilliant!
Great article. We are in a spiritual war & things that were agreed on 10 yrs ago are the source of debate today.
Well said!
Amen
You are so right! We are in a culture war. I encourage Australians to engage and turn back to our Christian foundations… that is where true freedom is found and why in the past we have enjoyed a country that has been free from physical war in contrast to many nations.
Praying for God’s will to be done in this nation.
We are fighting a battle that is different to our forefathers this battle is not with flesh and blood but with ideologies that are influencing the minds of people. The fight for freedom is non the less the same. We are called to influence with Gods righteousness, the foundations of our Judeo Christian values which has established the freedom of this nation are under siege. We can no longer be silent.
It is so important that we vote for righteousness this election.
So true, we need to stand up, fight for truth, integrity and love… for our children and their children.
I agree.
I believe we are in as fight as Christian’s to shift this nation. With great articles like this it encourages us as a body to rise up and do something, be a voice for the Lord. I see the Church rising up in prayer causing God to break through to help us. This shift in our nation needs God’s help. He is waiting for us to seek him.
So true
Exactly right. True words with wisdom.
Such a true observation of our society.
Well said, sir.
Amen. There is one action that would solve a lot of today’s problems and that is “Treat others as you want to be treated.” If we all did that our life would improve greatly!!
A lot of people think in a selfish way – what can I get out of this – not what is for the common good.
Well said. We as a nation need to recognise God as the one true leader and pray to the Holy Spirit for our great land.
Yes, I wish more people would open their eyes and see how bad it is. It’s easy to forget that God is in control, so keep praying, everyone!
agreed
Great summary of where we find ourselves today.
Righteousness exalts a nation…. Praying for the election of candidates that have maintained core values that align with God’s word.
I believe that the situation is deeper than we are giving credit.
Have you noticed that the entire “Western” world seems to be going into meltdown – political madness and instability, brexit, and a rush of “tolerance” demands.
The real issue is that the west has for too long lived in the illusion that it’s God’s society and cannot do anything wrong. People have become complacent and self-centred rather than focusing on God and His plan for a quiet and safe society under Christ’s direction.
Inevitably this focus on self trends ultimately to anarchy. Sound familiar?
A privilege to fight in prayer and with my vote.!
Keep up the good work!
Let us not accede to the erosion of God’s values in our society based on Christian values. Let us do more than quietly pondering God’s values. Let us be valiant and be prepared to speak out and support His Word. ‘Be strong, do not fear!’
Isaiah 35.4
Great article. I agree. It’s time to speak up. I long for a peaceful nation also. Thank you for your much needed contribution
Thank you Conor; you have pointed out the distinction between normal healthy debate and the undermining of civilization via ‘culture wars’. We just need to look back at the downfall of previous civilizations and great empires to see that in most cases it was caused by the erosion of that culture’s values. Normal moral standards were lowered or overturned, self became more important than family and society, power more important than love.
This is not just how long established and respectable societies are destroyed; many of the most repressive or fanatical societies are also destroyed by cultural wars.
So we have to recognise the value of what we have in Australia’s society today, discern what is not healthy debate so that we can call out the clamour for changes that will destroy our culture; one that is currently inclusive, supportive, safe and relatively free from oppressive and divisive laws.
No society is perfect for everyone involved (and this is where normal healthy debate is required) but the good ones are based on wholesome values and laws that provide the best possible life for all its members. God’s values recorded in the Bible gives the best set of such values and laws for society.
Praying for wise leaders
An encouragement to vote wisely and keep praying for our leaders.
Yes indeed, worth fighting for.
It’s good to raise these thoughts as too many people think we live in a free and safe society.
Amen.
People are realising that they need to be active to ensure that we get quality elected members and to try to prevent the forces of darkness, as some espouse, are held at bay. I believe that those who are followers of our Lord Jesus are the light to push back the darkness.
Great article. Let us pray fervently that people will begin to realize that going against God’s law especially in regard to the acceptance and promotion of abortion and non binary theory will inevitably have undesirable consequences.
Great thoughts. We must fight to keep the Christian values that our society has been built on as the cultural norm.
As Lord Jesus taught us, let us pray that the will of God be done here in Australia
exactly as it is in heaven. What a great country Australia would then be.
So true, nothing improves by osmosis. Great reminder that we need to get involved!
Freedom comes at a price..do not be a keep the peace person at all times-when such ungodliness is at the door..Fight for your children &grand children!
Yes it’s time to pray and act upon it.
It is interesting that the author used the language of the Renaissance as something that was good and the Dark Ages is something as evil. I am not a historian, but the Renaissance was the resurgence of Greco Roman Humanism (the New Light?) that swept through Europe and overcome the “Dark Ages”, a time where the church held more sway, both good and badly used. It is funny how the winners (secular humanists) got to write history using their own language.
A better word to describe the Renaissance movement, at least for the Christian should be neo-paganism… I am happy to be corrected.
