Intention
The need to repent for destroying God’s seed through abortion.

Scripture
When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:13-14

Reflection
In this time of prayer and fasting for rain, repentance, and renewal in our nation, we in the church may well ask “What are we repenting about?” This is a serious question, because unless we have a conviction about what is deeply grieving the heart of God, our repentance will be shallow and insincere; nothing more than a religious exercise.

Drought in 2007
During the drought in 2007, the Australian Prayer Network called intercessors around the nation to seek the Lord for 40 days, as to why the nation was experiencing such a lack of rain. Feedback listed six strategic areas of repentance, and as a result nearly 1,000 people gathered in Canberra in March for a 3-day Solemn Assembly.

In one of the sessions, a prophetic word was given that God would not bless us with rain to water our seed and heal our land until we heard His heart cry over His seed lost through abortion. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you”Jeremiah 1:5 (a). It is His seed!

We have not heeded this word.

Australia is now in such severe drought that towns are running out of water, farmers are being forced to leave their land and the suicide rate in the bush is heartbreaking.

Some farmers are asking ‘If this is God’s judgement on the nation, then why are we suffering in the bush for the sins of those in the city?’

Rather than a time of judgement, God in His unfathomable love knows that as a nation we are turning away from Him, and in His anguish He is calling us to return. In our blindness, we allow rebellion and lawlessness to be the breeding ground for demonic influence.

Farmers are the carriers of seed, placing them in the front line of the spiritual battle. Their produce feeds the nation, and they need our support and prayers.

We have now entered the Hebraic year 5780, 80 being the letter ‘peh’ which is characterised by a dot in the centre which some see as a pictograph of a seed. Pey means mouth, and the call is for us to birth by decree the prophetic words that carry the seed of God’s promises for our nation.

In the year 5780, we read in Psalm 80:4-7 – Passion Translation

O God, the mighty Commander of Angel Armies, how much longer will You smoulder in anger?
How much longer will You be disgusted with Your people even when we pray?
You have fed us with sorrow and grief and made us drink our tears by the bowlful.
You’ve made us a thorn in the side of all the neighbouring lands, and now they just laugh at us with their mocking scorn.
Come back, come back, O God, and restore us! You are the Commander of Angel Armies.

Let Your beaming face shine upon us with the sunrise rays of glory, and then nothing will be able to stop us!

Prayer
King of Glory! Deliver us from the sins that beset us, for we know that we have all sinned and fallen short of Your glory. (Romans 3:23)

We pray that in Your great love and mercy, You will pour rain upon our land, turning seed to harvest in the natural as in the spiritual.

Bless our farmers and their families, and bless the work of their hands.

In the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
