Day 12: A Liberating Lifestyle

2.8 MINS

Intention
Sharing your faith doesn’t have to be scary—in fact it is fun and liberating to pass on the greatest message in history.

Scripture

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”John 3:16

Reflection
What do you feel when you hear the word evangelism? Maybe you are afraid or have no desire at all to be involved in it. Many Christians believe that evangelism is not their calling and that others should do it. But Jesus called you to reach people with the Gospel. You can learn to overcome your fears, inferiority, passivity, or feelings of inability.

In the past, it was not always easy for me to tell others about Jesus. But I have discovered that evangelism can be really easy and fun in everyday life. Often when I have shared my faith, I have been thrilled afterwards how God has worked. Recently in a supermarket, I stood at the checkout to pay for my groceries and asked myself how I could approach the cashier. Then I had a good idea. I said, “You’re always so friendly, I’d vote you employee of the month.” He laughed—and soon we were having a longer conversation about faith.

You too can discover the liberating lifestyle of passing on the biggest message in history to other people in your everyday life. The Gospel is the greatest message of all time. God gave His Son out of love. When Jesus Christ died on the cross, He gave his life to save you for eternity. On the third day, Jesus rose from the dead and forever conquered the greatest enemy of mankind—death. We have the greatest message of all time, and Jesus promised us the greatest source of power to proclaim it: His Holy Spirit.

If we understood what a treasure we possess through the Gospel, then we won’t remain silent. In a very unusual situation I became aware of this.

Before a concert of the rock band Korn, I met their guitarist Brain Welch, who is now a follower of Jesus. He asked me to invite some fans to meet him backstage after the show. Such VIP tickets usually cost around $500, but I was allowed to give these tickets away for free. I had such fun approaching young people and inviting them to meet a rock star in person. Of course everyone came, and Brian told them about his life and finally invited them to give their lives to Jesus.

When I distributed the VIP tickets, a thought crossed my mind: I invited young people here to meet a famous rock star for a few minutes and get an autograph, and it was a lot of fun. When it comes to evangelism, sometimes we are afraid or ashamed. But we are not inviting people to spend a few minutes with a rock star—we are inviting them to spend eternity with God. What a privilege and honour! Do you see what I mean when I say that evangelism is fun? You too can experience how God uses you. Please pray with me a simple but life-changing prayer:

Prayer
Lord Jesus, your Word says that the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. I am willing to go. Please send me and use me to reach people with the Gospel. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
