COVID19 Call to Prayer – August 28: God’s Righteous Decree
28 “Furthermore, just as they did not think it
worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God,
so God gave them over to a depraved mind,
so that they do what ought not to be done.
29 They have become filled with every kind
of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity.
They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips,
30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful;
they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;
31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love,no mercy.
32 Although they know God’s righteous decree
that those who do such things deserve death,
they not only continue to do these very things
but also approve of those who practice them.”
~ Romans 1:28
What we are witnessing today in society is a playing out of Romans 1.
We reject God, and as a result there are terrible consequences within society.
As we pray against Covid-19, let us not forget to pray against a virus which is far more dangerous – the virus of human sin.
Petition: Please join with us in praying for:
1. Australia – Victoria is now approaching 500 deaths, most of them in care homes.
Although the number of daily cases has fallen, the number of deaths remains relatively high.
There are increasing tensions between the states as the impact of border closures on local and national economies becomes more apparent. Pray for all those involved in making the difficult decisions.
2. The World – India saw a record 75,000 new cases yesterday.
Two areas in Brazil appear to have ‘herd immunity’, with only 20% of the population having been infected. Sweden is now going to permit gatherings over 50 (including sports).
It is now becoming clear that Covid-19 is far more widespread than had been realized.
This interview by John Anderson with Dr Jay Bhattacharya is a mine of helpful information which explains why this is important.
Forgive me a personal note, but this is important to me because my daughter, who is a coronavirus nurse in London, was found to have had the virus and yet had had no symptoms. We pray for the Lord’s protection on all.
A Song of Praise – New York was one of the areas most hit by Covid-19 (although it too seems to have reached some kind of herd immunity). This praise by Matt Redman and thousands of Christians in Times Square is a great reminder not only that we have 10,000 reasons to praise God, but that we should declare His praises in the public square.
Prayer:
Bless the Lord O my soul. We worship Your holy name. We sing to You.
We have so many reasons to give thanks to You.
But the greatest reason is for Your greatest gift,
our precious Lord Jesus Christ, Your only Son.
You gave Him for us… what can we give in return?
Praise and thanks.
Lord, we worship You.
Amen.
