Day 23: Get Up and Step Out
Intention
We are being commissioned to work in the kingdom
Scripture
“Now a man of the tribe of Levi married a Levite woman, and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months. But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile.” – Exodus 2:1-3 (NIV)
Reflection
We all know the story. At this point, the characters are anonymous. The young mother was a brickyard labourer, a foreign slave. She had been pregnant through oppressive times. She had to live with the constant fear that her baby boy would be ripped from her and killed. Going beyond even a new mother’s instinct, she caught a glimpse of God’s hand on this ‘special’ baby and went to creative lengths to protect him.
And protect him she did.
Moses was obviously a passionate man, and this passion ran away with him. He spent many years in the wilderness of Midian, humbly employed as a shepherd. During that time, he was married and became a father of his own small football team.
This was his life.
Colourful yet unremarkable.
Except for God.
Throughout this whole drama, the primary actor is God Himself. He has not forgotten His covenant with Israel. He is not unconcerned. He is intimately involved in every detail, bringing about His grand purpose in His perfect time. Somehow, within this purpose, God is active in the life of this unremarkable man, who encountered and was called by God when 80 years old!
God’s will and purpose will prevail in His good time. Do I have to wait another twenty-five years (age 80) before God powerfully anoints me to do some major Kingdom work? Like me, are you tempted to leave the evangelising to the Evangelists, the preaching to the Preachers, the loving to the Pastors and the praying to the Intercessors?
I can identify with Moses. He has a speech impediment — at least he thinks he does (notice how it quietly disappears over the Exodus narrative). He has no status. Would anyone (let alone Pharoah) listen to him? He thinks poorly of himself. He is convinced that others could do a better job.
Meanwhile, God is continually at work, bringing about His will, working out His purpose. Moses, after age 80, grew into twice the man he was before. What changed?
MOSES CHANGED AS HE BEGAN TO FOCUS ON AND DO THE LORD’S WILL.
To those who think you are hidden from view in a reed basket: it is time to climb out and take your place in God’s purpose. Like Moses, each of us is being commissioned. We are to get up and step out, which we can do as we focus on Jesus.

Prayer
Our Father in Heaven,
Your Kingdom Come. Your will be done in this great Southland of the Holy Spirit. Did You not create each one of us in our mother’s womb? Do You not count the hair on our heads? Did You not make our sins as white as snow and separate them from us as far as the East is from the West? Did You not adopt us into Your family? You who gave Jesus to die for our sins, will You hold anything back from us?
Loving Father, how can we hold back from You? As we lay our lives before You, so fill us with Your Holy Spirit that we may powerfully share Your Gospel where You have planted each one of us. Take me. Use me for Your purpose and be glorified in me. Through the wonderful Name of Jesus,
Amen.

Identificational repentance is a very powerful corporate, priestly (1 Peter 2:9) prayer weapon, in which believers stand in the gap for their family, church, city, or nation by naming the sins that have shaped a people, confessing them before God, and turning from those patterns in heartfelt humility.
