Confused About Religious Freedom in Australia? WATCH: 3 Short Videos
If you are uncertain about the need for Australian legislation protecting the basic human right to freedom of religion, or perplexed about the paralysis of the Religious Discrimination Bill, tune in to these fantastic bite-sized videos with clear explanations about our current situation.
Religious freedom is under pressure here in Australia.
It used to be uncontroversial, but now it’s heavily contested. Many people see it as little more than a licence for bigotry and hate.
The previous Morrison government entered Parliament in 2019 promising a Religious Discrimination Bill that would protect the Religious Freedom of all Australians. You might have heard about that Religious Discrimination Bill being put forward in Parliament earlier this year by the Morrison government. But they withdrew it before it went to the Senate.
So what happened? What’s the state of religious freedom in Australia at the moment? And what can be done to improve it?
The Institute for Civil Society is a Melbourne-based social policy think tank, and they’ve released 3 short videos (each less than 5 minutes long) explaining:
1) Why Australia needs a Religious Discrimination Act
2) What happened to the Religious Discrimination Bill
3) Refuting the objections to the Religious Discrimination Bill
These are essential videos for everyone concerned about religious freedom in Australia.
