Day 7: Songs to Awaken a Nation
Intention
To awaken the dawning of God’s destiny for our land.
Scripture
“My heart is steadfast, O God! I will sing and make melody with all my being! Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn!
I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations. For your steadfast love is great above the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth!”
– Psalm 108:1–5
Reflection
There is something special about the dawn. It’s a fresh start, with new mercies and new hope for the day that lies ahead.
I have been challenged by the connection from awakening the new day with praise, to seeing the Lord work a mighty victory in our land. As we read through Psalm 108, it seems the psalmist actually awakens the destiny of a nation through his song.
During these 21 days of “Wave of Glory”, we are earnestly praying for an awakening across the nation and for the knowledge of the glory of the Lord to cover the Earth as the waters cover the sea. Both of those key elements – awakening and glory – are found here in Psalm 108, so we would do well to pay attention to the progression in this Scripture.
As we read through the remainder of the psalm, what began with a quiet confidence in the psalmist’s heart to awaken the dawn, results in God possessing the nations and bringing certain victory over the enemy. We too are crying out for God to possess our states, territories and nations again, and for the Lord Himself to lead our nations back to their true destiny as the Great Southlands of the Holy Spirit. And again, we raise our voices with the psalmist to declare, “With God we shall do valiantly; it is He who will tread down our foes.” (Ps 108:13).
What ends with God’s victory, began with steadfast hearts awakening the new day with praise. Truly our day of victory began at the dawning of the third day, when the devil was defeated and death lost its sting for all eternity. We have the tremendous privilege of living in a generation nearer to Christ’s second coming than ever before. Can we awaken the dawn with our praises?
May we put off the deeds of darkness and be armed in the armour of light, for truly night is almost over; the new day is very near! (Rom 13:12). May we sing the songs of awakening for the glory of the Lord to cover the Earth as the waters cover the sea, and that the nations will hear of the goodness of our God. Truly His love is great above the heavens! His faithfulness reaches to the clouds! May the Lord Jesus Christ be exalted among the peoples and His glory be over all the earth!

Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus, we pray together with the psalmist that our hearts would be steadfastly confident in You. May our praises be heard among the peoples!
Help us Lord, to put off the deeds of darkness and to be armed in the armour of light. Help us Lord, to destroy the works of the devil and enforce the victory of the cross daily in our neighbourhoods, our workplaces and cities.
Lord, awaken the nation! Send Your Holy Spirit as a mighty flood on this land! May we declare Your goodness until the nations are possessed by You and the knowledge of the glory of the Lord covers the Earth. For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever! Amen.
