Day 9: Out of the Pit, Into Awakening

5 September 2023

3.3 MINS

Intention

To cry out for God to come down and visit the nations and bring them out of the pit of destruction.

Scripture

“He brought me up out of the pit of destruction.”

– Psalm 40:2

Reflection

We fast for both personal and national renewal. We fast for breakthrough and intimate communion. We fast because there is a pit of literal destruction from which only God can deliver.

The good news? Not only does God listen to our prayer, He acts upon it. He is a devoted Father, a faithful Shepherd, a jealous Lover, a powerful King, a righteous Judge, and a powerful Saviour.

As people, we tend towards great forgetfulness. The fact is, we always need Him, not only in bad times. Oh, how short our memories! Too easily, we grow self-sufficient and complacent, until various pressures come along to remind us once again: We always need the Lord. Lions and bears of circumstance or satanic assault threaten to destroy us, so we cry out and turn again in trust and dependence.

God could easily scold our inconsistency. He could show us how behind we are on His scorecard. Instead, when we cry out, He faithfully rises to answer and defend His people whom He loves.

Isaiah cried out, “Oh that You would rend the heavens! That You would come down!” (Isa 64:1, NKJV)

During our fast, this is our cry: Invade, oh King! Come down and visit our land! Let all of Australia and Oceania know Your glory like never before.

We must see how Isaiah’s cry connects to David’s plea in Psalm 40. The two best words in today’s verse are ‘up’ and ‘out’. He comes down that He might bring us up and out of the pit!

This has always been the nature of God. He comes down, we are raised. He came down to Adam’s fallen race to prophesy the salvation that would be raised up through Eve. He came down to Abram to declare the nearness of the promise that would break forth through Isaac. He came down to Sinai to elevate a mass of slaves into a nation of conquerors, empowered by the knowledge of God to triumph in the new land.

“Now it shall be, if you will diligently obey the Lord your God, being careful to do all His commandments… The Lord will cause your enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before you; they shall come out against you one way and shall flee before you seven ways.” (Deut 28:1, 7)

If the people would but heed the Word of God, victory was assured once God came down.

In Bethlehem, in the flesh of a human baby, He lowered Himself to redeem and elevate our existence from earthly to heavenly. All of these are pressure moments.

In times of national and moral crisis, we feel squeezed. The economy squeezes; our faith shrinks. There are giants in the land and it seems there is no way out. And it’s true. Our destruction is assured. We’re in a pit, often of our own making. We can’t escape.

Until.

Until God invades.

What then? When Heaven touches Earth, everything changes. Isn’t that worthy of waiting, crying out, believing, contending? Isn’t an empty belly worth the vibrant faith it produces to lay hold of promises?

Oh God, visit Australia!

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We are fasting and praying for personal and national renewal. We are praying and fasting for breakthroughs and intimate communion.

You are the only answer to the pit of destruction. We are desperate for ourselves and our nations that You come down and bring us up and out of the pit!

Display Your glory to our nations, Your strong arm to deliver. We wait, we cry out, we contend, we believe. Amen.

I believe that God is waiting for US to do something, Christ has already won the war for us ! When Christ died on the cross, He cried out ” It is finished!” When He was transfigured and lifted up to the Father in heaven, WE ROSE WITH HIM ! (Ephesians 2:6 and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus!

He already has done the work, it is up to us now to stand and understand exactly who we are in Christ ! (Ephesians 3: 20) “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or thin, according to the POWER at work within us, to Him be glory in the church (US) and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.”

“Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done ON EARTH as it is in heaven. The kingdom is US, we have to take a stand against this evil, put on the Whole Armor of God (Ephesians 3:20-21)
