Day 13: Sit Down!
Intention
To grasp that our identity is fully in Jesus – the One who prevailed and sat down at the right hand of God, with rulers and authorities far below Him. We sat down together with Him!
Scripture
“… that he worked in Christ when he raised Him from the dead and seated Him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.”
– Ephesians 1:20–21
“But God, being rich in mercy… raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in heavenly places in Christ Jesus… ”
– Ephesians 2:4–7
Reflection
We live in challenging and extraordinary times where it seems as if the greatest battle is the battle for identity. It should come as no surprise, then, that Scripture speaks to this issue so powerfully. One such place is where, at the launch of Jesus’ public ministry in Matthew 3:17, the Scripture states:
“And behold, a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.’”
This revelation of divine identity was crucial. The very next verse records:
“Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.” (Matt 4:1)
The word ‘tempted’ is the same one as ‘tested’. And that’s exactly what Jesus endured: an assault on His identity as the devil tested and tempted Him to the core of His very being. But out of His identity, Jesus prevailed!
Scripture continues to tell us that, after his glorious resurrection and ascension, Jesus sat down on His throne far above all political, judicial and religious authorities. And that He has now raised us up to sit together with Him, with the result that these powers are now beneath our feet – and we have the power to rule over them in Him.
What an extraordinary promise!
As believers seated with Him, we have been tasked with exercising the rule, government and authority of the Kingdom from that throne. To trust the Lord for a wave of glory to cover the Earth and inspire a global awakening that will see billions come to Jesus. We do this by speaking, praying and proclaiming from the very throne room of God, knowing that our words carry authority.
Renowned Bible teacher and author Alan Vincent encourages us to walk this out practically, stating, “If you are an evangelist, learn to sit on that throne in your spirit before you begin to preach. If you are a pastor, sit on that throne in your spirit before you begin teaching. If you are a Sunday School teacher, sit down on that throne in your spirit before you begin teaching the children. If you do this, it will totally change the way you minister the Word of God.”
May we discover the power of sitting down with Him in heavenly places, of ruling and reigning with Him as we pray, taking ground and contending for the greatest harvest of souls the world has ever seen.
It’s the only place from where we can prevail.

Prayer
Lord, not to us, not to us but to Your name be the glory, because of Your steadfast love and faithfulness!
Teach us what it means to sit with You in heavenly places – to see what You see, to hear Your heart, to grasp Your plans for the coming harvest and to pray and move with You to see them come to pass. Amen.

Identificational repentance is a very powerful corporate, priestly (1 Peter 2:9) prayer weapon, in which believers stand in the gap for their family, church, city, or nation by naming the sins that have shaped a people, confessing them before God, and turning from those patterns in heartfelt humility.
