Day 15: Be Still and Know He is God
Intention
To take up the call to be still before the Lord.
Scripture
“He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.’”
– Psalm 46:10
“He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside quiet waters.”
– Psalm 23:2
“He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed.”
– Psalm 107:29
Reflection
The World Prayer Assembly (WPA) approaching us quickly. As its timing draws nearer, the Lord has been speaking to me about the need for us to rest in His Spirit.
We may find that the enemy will come and try to rob and steal (John 10:10). We might face challenges or setbacks, even while living out the Word of God.
We sometimes find ourselves worrying about family, friends, work, finances and our health. We can fall into the trap of fretting about something – as if that will make it better (Matt 6:27).
That’s why we need to hear the call of God to stillness. The call in Psalm 46:10 is clear: “Be still and know that I am God”. Stillness comes in the knowledge that He is God – and we are not.
When we heed the call to be still, it allows us to pause and reflect on the WPA and what God is saying about it. It allows space to remind ourselves that no matter what is going on around us, God is still in control.
When we have done everything we can, we need to wait patiently for God to work. The psalmist gives us this beautiful line: “Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him” (Psalm 37:7 NIV). As we wait for God to come through, we must intentionally still our minds and emotions. The call to be still is a command – and God will only command what He also gives us the power to do. God will always be faithful to His promises.
This leads us to a final point: God is the one who stills the storms. In Psalm 107:29, the psalmist confidently declares, “He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed.” The incarnate God, Jesus Christ, did the same thing:
“He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.” (Mark 4:39 NIV)
We will all encounter storms too big for us in life. But God is always with us, and when we cry out to Him, He can bring calm in the midst of our storm.

Prayer
Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on Earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever.
And Lord, please calm our storms as we align ourselves to be still in You.
Amen.
