Day 22: Breakthrough
Intention
To give an update on answered prayer from the 21 days of prayer and fasting.
Scripture
“So David and his troops went up to Baal-perazim and defeated the Philistines there. ‘God did it!’ David exclaimed. ‘He used me to burst through my enemies like a raging flood!’ So, they named that place Baal-perazim (which means, ‘The Lord who bursts through’). The Philistines had abandoned their gods there, so David gave orders to burn them.”
Reflection
Jack reached for his beer, but he couldn’t pick it up. His beer was stuck to the table. Jack couldn’t even get his hand around it. It was like he was fighting against an invisible forcefield. He was getting exasperated as he had already had one drink from his freshly poured beer, but for some strange reason, he could not have another.
It was then he heard a voice. “Tip it down the sink, get on your bicycle and go to church.” Jack was wondering what was happening to him. Had the many years of being an alcoholic and drug addict finally taken its toll? Was he going mad or was he hearing God?
On spec, he decided to obey the voice in his head. In the same moment, he watched his hand in amazement pick up the beer and pour it down the sink. The forcefield had reversed! What was happening to him?
He rode his bike down to the little C3 Jervis Bay Church on the edge of town. Coincidentally Pastor Steve Ahern just ‘happened’ to be there midweek, with a youth evangelism team. They heard Jack’s story and then led him in a prayer to find Christ as his own personal saviour.
Pastor Steve told me, “Warwick, this is the third person to come to Christ from a supernatural divine encounter in the last four weeks. In my 47 years following Christ, I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Ps Steve continued, “Every week at church people are coming to Christ and miracles are happening. Something is beginning to break. Warwick, this could be the start of the breakthrough we have been praying for. As the Scripture says, ‘It is the Lord’s doing and it is marvellous in our eyes’”. Interestingly, Ps Steve leads one of the most prayerful churches I have ever seen.
I am hearing these types of stories all across Australia, in many variations, with increasing frequency. The above video intimates the same thing. Could they be pointing to a season of breakthrough and a supernatural awakening to Christ?
Charles Spurgeon said, “Whenever God determines to do a great work, He first sets His people to pray.”
Internationally God is moving also. In America, an unknown Christian singer–songwriter, Oliver Anthony, has exploded onto the world stage – and all in the last six weeks. He starts each concert with a lengthy Bible reading. Oliver Anthony shared the gospel with Joe Rogan and Dr Jordan Petersen when they interviewed him. Joe Rogan is the number one podcaster in the world and Dr Petersen is not far behind.
Tens of millions are hearing the good news of God’s love through Jesus Christ. Other celebrities, too, seem to be awakening to Christ as well.
To cap it off Christian male and female tennis players took out the USA Grand Slam trophies last week. And what about the staggering success of the independent faith-based movie, Sound of Freedom, which has blitzed the box office in the USA, Australia and New Zealand!

Prayer
Lord, just as King David gave you praise as the Lord of the Breakthrough, we do the same. Baal Perazim, have your way in Australia and the world. We pray for a wave of the “knowledge of the glory of the LORD” to sweep the globe. We pray for an upper room experience at the WPA in Australia, 3–6 October 2023. We pray for an awakening here in Australia. We pray for a global awakening for the world and for billions to find Christ. God use us, because you Oh God, are Lord of the Breakthrough. Amen.
