Kirralie Smith Takes on Damaging Transgender Ideology and Refuses to Back Down
Kirralie Smith, the spokesperson for Binary Australia, discusses vitally important topics ranging from the damaging effects of puberty blockers to current legal challenges in Australia.
Discussing the topic of transgender ideology – including some of the damaging effects of chemical and surgical interventions – is not necessarily easy. However, Binary Australia’s Kirralie Smith refuses to back away from the tough topic.
Watch her discuss these issues in the Daily Declaration podcast below.
Puberty is a Human Right – and Violations Have Negative Consequences
Puberty is an essential process that transforms a child’s body into an adult body. The Convention on the Rights of the Child makes the “development of the child” paramount – as it should. Therefore, inhibiting puberty – an indispensable developmental process – is a blatant violation of human rights.
Puberty-blocking drugs have detrimental consequences. Some of these negative results include sterility, impaired brain development and eroded bone density, to mention but a few.
Puberty blockers – labelled “chemical castration” by Dr Dylan Wilson – switch off the natural development of sexual organs. The long-term, irreversible effects of this include destroyed adulthood sexual function and infertility.
Hormones released during puberty are also necessary for bone development. If puberty is inhibited, issues with bone density can result, including osteoporosis.
One specific, heart-rending story involves a young Swedish girl who went on puberty blockers. The prevention of puberty caused her spine to erode. As a result, she cannot walk and requires a wheelchair for mobility.
In response to these examples, Kirralee states:
“Children deserve protection. They need evidence-based medicine and that’s not what we’re getting.”
In light of long-term medical damage arising from these chemical interventions, proper unbiased investigations are imperative. However, the Victorian parliament recently voted down a motion to hold an inquiry into ‘gender-affirming care’. This raises the obvious question:
“If they are so convinced that there is no harm being done to children, why not have the inquiry? The inquiry should support their view. They shouldn’t be worried about it. But I think they are very worried about it.”
The Tide is Turning in Australia – Slowly
In Europe, France, Sweden, Finland and the UK have banned (or are now severely hesitant about) the use of puberty blockers as a treatment for gender dysphoria.
By comparison, Australia is lagging well behind.
Asked whether she believes the tide is turning in Australia, Kirralie responds:
“There are definitely more people standing up and speaking out. The level of awareness is definitely being raised. The sadness is that we have an increasing number of de-transitioners or desisters who are speaking out and sharing their horrifying stories of the permanent, catastrophic harm that is being done to them in the name of gender identity ideology.”
Encouragingly, there are a handful of politicians in Australia who are willing to speak up. However, they remain few and far between.
As a result, there is a long way to go in Australia before the dangers of transgender ideology are taken seriously and made public policy. Right now,
“A lot of Australians just aren’t aware of how serious this is. They don’t understand what’s happening before it impacts them or someone they know.”
2023 Australian Mother of the Year Award
2023 has been an eventful year for Kirralie. One high honour was the Family Voice Australia announcement – broadcast on Vision Christian Radio in May – that she had been awarded the 2023 Australian Mother of the Year. As reported on the Daily Declaration, Kirralie responded:
“There is no role I value more than being a wife and mother.
“Greg and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary last month and our three children, along with our three foster children who are now all adults, are a true reward for us every day…
“I am humbled and encouraged by this award and I am determined to never back down as I stand with you for truth, biological reality, sex-based rights and the protection of our children.”
This highlight came in the midst of a year with numerous legal challenges.
Current Legal Cases
Kirralie is currently facing charges against her for ‘misgendering’, interpreted as ‘vilification’ and ‘incitement of violence’. The charges were laid for calling two ‘transgender women’ – who play women’s soccer in Sydney – biological males.
Three applications for apprehended violence orders (AVOs) and two vilification complaints were made against her.
Of the three AVOs, one was withdrawn before it went to court.
Police issued a second AVO on her doorstep on March 31 this year. The Daily Mail reported that the AVO was “to protect an amateur NSW soccer player at the centre of a transgender row.” Referring to the biological male/‘transgender woman’ playing in the women’s league, the report went on to state that:
“The player, who towered over most players, was the league’s leading goal scorer and a clip of them sending a rival player flying in a tackle went viral earlier this year.”
Preparing the challenge against the AVO required six months of legal preparation, inside and outside of court. Unexpectedly, when the magistrate was finally ready to hear the case in court last September, the police withdrew the complaint. Curiously, there was no apology or explanation.
I have two court cases currently in NSW Australia for “vilification” because I called two men ‘male’

Unfortunately, a third AVO remains in the legal system. There will be no decision delivered until December.
The same two soccer players behind the AVOs are also behind the vilification complaints. These two complaints were made to the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT) –which accepted them. As a result, they will proceed to hearings.
I am being forced to appear before NCAT for “misgendering” 2 different males.
I identified them as males in female sporting teams.
Apparently, this is considered “vilification” in NSW.
The fines for telling the truth could be enormous. Where are the protections for females?

Supporting Kirralie’s Fight to Protect Women and Girl’s Sex-Based Rights
Kirralee’s language of truth and accuracy and evidence-based science is labelled hate speech, vilification and incitement to violence. Ignoring the problem is not an option and will only make the situation worse. Kirralie comments,
“It is very important that language is accurate, that we are able to defend women and girl’s sex-based rights, that parents have the ability to protect their children and that all of society can safeguard children.”
The legal system is being used (‘abused’) for the purpose of silencing and penalising anyone who speaks up for the sex-based rights of women and children.
You can support Kirralie and her organisation, Binary, by signing up for the mailing list here and making a donation to help cover the costly legal cases. As always, the battle is not against flesh and blood (Eph 6:12) – and prayer remains a non-negotiable.
The case against Kirralie calling men, men, and women, women, is really against everyone who upholds the creational design of male and female (Gen 1:27).
If ever there were a time for the solidarity and purity of the Church (Eph 5:26), it is surely now.
