Vaccine-Injured Waiting Almost a Year for Compensation

United Australia Party Senator Ralph Babet has come down hard on the Federal Government and Services Australia in the wake of their response to his Senate Estimates questions on notice re: the Covid-19 Vaccine Claim Scheme.

“I’m appalled to learn that Services Australia is taking an average of 297 days to compensate those injured by Covid jabs,” Senator Babet said.

“We all remember the speed at which the Federal Government distributed hundreds of billions of dollars of stimulus and compensation in the early days of the pandemic. JobKeeper, JobSeeker, Home Builder grants, and Cash-flow boost payments were rolled out in a matter of weeks with little control.

“Sadly, the same cannot be said for compensation of those injured, through no fault of their own, by an indemnified and novel product that was marketed by our own government as ‘safe and effective’.

“I call on the government to fast-track payments and give these claimants the benefit of the doubt. Pay the people, just like you did with JobKeeper; it is the least you can do.”

Glacial Pace

The vaccine claim scheme has received 3,805 claims, of which just 199 have been paid. More than $11.1 million in compensation had been paid to the vaccine injured, including $4.2 million for those who had died from Covid vaccines. The largest single payment for a vaccine death was $2.21 million.

“We know this scheme is ill-designed, and many vaccine-injured Australians are going without compensation.

“It feels like the government wants to sweep this under the rug, to be forgotten. I won’t tolerate it; I will fight for the vaccine injured. These people need to be heard, and they need to be compensated.

“Taxpayers are funding the collateral damage of these novel Covid vaccines because the weak Government granted indemnity to pharmaceutical companies as a condition of purchase. India and China told them to get stuffed, and that’s precisely what we should have done. That’s not right; it should be big pharma that foots the bill for causing deaths and harm.”

Senator Babet said that his bill, titled the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Amendment (Vaccine Indemnity) Bill 2023, which is currently in the committee stage, must pass. His bill will “ensure that no future indemnities are granted by the Commonwealth in relation to the use of vaccines. This bill will limit financial and legal risk to the Commonwealth and help to aid in the restoration of trust in medicine.”

“Granting indemnity means that our government has handed over a blank cheque to big pharma. If anything goes wrong, taxpayers foot the bill; that’s not right.”

I wonder if Senator Babet would be so outraged if other similar claims on Government funds were expedited in that kind of time frame? Would he, for example, wish for asylum seekers to be processed that swiftly? Is his outrage aimed at the time being too long because they’re dragging their feet? Or are they understaffed? Does he even know? I’m sure that if it were any other area of government expenditure he would demand that every “i” be dotted and every “t” crossed before a single dollar was granted.

But one thing that has not been raised here is the fact that, when there were so many people writing about vaccine injuries being far more prevalent than what was being claimed by the pharmaceutical companies and the health authorities, that from tens of millions of vaccinations there have been only 3,805 claims, with 1,981 of those being found unwarranted or withdrawn by the claimant. That leaves just over 1800 people at most in Australia who have a significant adverse response.

There is also the regular claims that many people have died from the vaccine, yet the figure paid out points directly at the 11 unfortunate people who died due to the blood clotting disorder from the Astra-Zeneca vaccine in the early weeks of the rollout three years ago. So much for the mRNA vaccines being potentially fatal!

How often have we been reminded on these pages that COVID-19 infection has a 1% mortality rate, as though that were insignificant. Yet here we are making a mountain out of a 1 in 5 million mortality rate. And it’s because any death is a tragedy that the pure hypocrisy of making much of one after being so dismissive of the other should be obvious.

And while he’s at it, does Senator Babet wish to delve into other products which are designed to protect us, but sometimes cause injury and even death? What about every other medication out there with similar side effect impacts? Why not go after the manufacturers of the yearly ‘flu vaccine, which also has similar adverse reactions, like myocarditis, and at a similar rate as these?

Perhaps he should go after the manufacturers of seat belts, or the patent owner, Volvo. Because there are so many people every year who suffer serious injuries caused by their seat belts, and some even die.

By now, the cynical political opportunism of Senator Babet should be abundantly clear.
