Day 14 – Overwhelming Grief
“For godly grief produces a repentance
that leads to salvation without regret,
but worldly grief produces death.”
~ 2 Corinthians 7:10 (CSB)
Grief is an emotion that is very real, very powerful and it is a result of a great loss or sorrow. When we are convicted by the Holy Spirit, it is always with a great deal of compassion for a way to bring us closer to the Lord. However, when we have grief that is overwhelming, many times, the response to it can be that of worldly grief that eventually leads to death.
When faced with the choice of what to do with an unplanned pregnancy, fear can be the driving force coupled with guilt or shame. A woman can take the advice of many voices, even their own ‘worldly’ wisdom, that tells her that abortion is a simple, quick way to eradicate the “problem” so they can then “get on with their life”.
Suddenly, after the abortion, she is hit by a grief that constantly torments her, and she has no one to help relieve this pain of the “CHOICE” she has made. She can only find true healing through Jesus, Who took our grief and sorrow upon Himself.
Scripture says about Jesus in Isaiah 53:3-4 (NKJV):
“He is despised and rejected by men,
a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.
And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him;
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
Surely, He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.”
Even those who know the Lord can be trapped in grief and sorrow if they hold on to it. Many people experience grief over abortion – not just the woman who has had the abortion, but the fathers, grandparents, siblings; anyone who knows about the abortion can suddenly feel overwhelmed and powerless.
There is redemption and restoration in Christ. It is His church — His Bride, who is the physical manifestation of His presence. The Church, who are Houses of Refuge and carriers of the compassion of the Lord, are those who can help those overwhelmed by grief. Forgiveness and freedom come for all who believe through the cross, death, resurrection, and ascension with Him, where life is abundant and eternal in Christ.
Worship:
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, You are moved by compassion to run to help us when we repent and turn to You. Thank You for the gift of abundant life through Your Son, our Saviour, Jesus.
Lord, we release all our grief and sorrow to You now – we are not able to bear what You have already paid such a high price for, as You suffered agony, sorrow and grief for all of humanity. Lord, this includes even those we don’t know who are part of the great bloodshed of the innocent through legalised abortion.
Lord Jesus, thank You that redemption in You is complete and eternal. Holy Spirit, thank You that You are pouring Yourself out on all flesh in these days. Lord, soften hearts and search out those who are trapped in grief and worldly sorrow, and bring them to glorious salvation as they turn to You. Let us see Your face and hear Your words of love. You are the one who heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
God of power and revival, we cry out for a spiritual awakening in our land. Break through the spiritual darkness and complacency that surrounds us. Pour out Your Spirit on all flesh and draw people to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Bring conviction of sin and a hunger for righteousness. May Your Church rise up in unity and boldness. (2 Chronicles 7:14; Joel 2:28)
In Your powerful and redeeming Name, Yeshua, Our Lord, Amen.
Prayer Points:
- It is crucial for Australians to stand united and shout out for the Babies Born Alive through failed abortion to be given life-saving treatment and care and not left to die. Pray for the Senate to vote for the Babies Born Alive Bill. Senator Matt Canavan, Senator Ralph Babet and Senator Alex Antic have co-signed a bill to give babies born alive from abortion a right to life. No More Delay! Let this become a loud election issue for this government. Hear firsthand a midwife’s grief and a Born Alive after a failed abortion story.
- Pray the Love Adelaide — Walk for Life 2024 on Feb 10th from 10am-12pm will grow in momentum to double last year — that nothing will hinder the church standing against legalised abortion, to add their strength and support to end the abortion crisis in our nation and beyond. Pray for health for everyone, especially the overseas guest speaker, doors of favour to open, more volunteers for the walk and the weather to be favourable.
- We pray for every state and territory of Australia to recognise that every life is a gift from God — for the church to arise in the cause of defending life in the womb from the horror of abortion and come together to stand for life. For greater numbers to be in attendance at the “Walk for Life Adelaide” on 10 February 2024 and “March for Life” Brisbane — date TBA, Mackay “March for the Babies” October, “March for the Babies” Melbourne, Love Sydney Walk for Life — date TBA, Perth’s rally for Life in May, and for all Territories and States to join in and hold a Walk for Life in their city/region.
- Even though every state in Australia has changed Legislation to allow abortion up to birth, we can all work together to change such legislation. It’s all about numbers — Pray that we unify and work together to make abortion unthinkable in Australia. Pray for the number of awakened righteous politicians and leaders in every sphere of influence to increase, and be empowered and emboldened to change the laws and influence this generation with the truth about abortion.
- Ask for many more churches across the nation to be aware of the women in their midst who are suffering through having had an abortion. To have spiritual discernment to identify women with a crisis pregnancy who need the help, hope and love of Jesus to keep the baby or choose adoption into a loving home. That every church be a trusted place of mercy and compassion to be known and operating as Houses of Refuge for the unborn and families. For Hubs of Love to be established in every city and town in the nation.
‘And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.’
~ Galatians 6:9 (NKJV)
May God Bless you as you pray these 21 Days of Compassion and Mercy for the Unborn.
