The Senator who initiated the hearings says it’s “only a matter of time” before the Prime Minister is forced to call for a Covid-19 Royal Commission.

At the Australian Senate’s first public hearing to assess possible Terms of Reference for a Covid-19 Royal Commission, all witnesses who were called to testify were unanimous in their support for a Royal Commission to examine Australia’s response to Covid-19.

Convened last Thursday and lasting seven hours, the hearing was held by the Senate Standing Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs, and heard from 22 stakeholders representing 13 submissions.

The hearing was chaired by LNP Senator for Queensland Paul Scarr and involved senators from across the political spectrum.

Among the stakeholders to present on the day were medical professionals, lawyers, human rights advocates, Royal Commission experts and vaccine-injured Australians, some of them representing firms, unions or non-profits, and others speaking in their own capacity.

While the written submissions of several stakeholders were tepid, most were stridently critical of Australian governments’ unprecedented response to Covid-19. All were unequivocal that a Royal Commission is essential.

‘Only a Matter of Time’ Before PM’s Hand is Forced

The inquiry into a Covid-19 Royal Commission was successfully called in October last year by One Nation Senator Malcom Roberts of Queensland.

Senator Roberts has dismissed the Prime Minister’s much narrower Covid-19 Response Inquiry as a “toothless tiger” that is “made up of insiders who vocally supported the harshest lockdowns in the world” and that is designed to “whitewash everything the Federal government did”.

“Nearly four years on from the start of COVID-19 Australians still don’t have answers about why Government took some of the most draconian measures in Australian history,” Senator Roberts wrote in a press release in the wake of last week’s hearing.

“Only a Royal Commission can answer why government had vaccine mandates for a vaccine that didn’t stop transmission, secret health advice that was never published, established plans for pandemic response that were ignored and the longest lockdowns in the world called over a virus as severe as some flus.”

According to Senator Roberts, it is “a rarity for parliamentary inquiries” to see unanimity on any issue, and yet “every single witness was united in their support for an expansive, fully empowered Royal Commission into the Federal and State Governments’ response to COVID.”

He said the evidence presented Thursday meant it was “only a matter of time before the Prime Minister’s hand was forced” into advising the Governor-General to establish a Covid-19 Royal Commission.

Half a Million Views on Social Media

Short excerpts of the witness testimony from the Senate inquiry that were shared online last week garnered almost half a million views on social media.

Presenting on behalf of the People’s Terms of Reference, Dr Julie Sladden, a medical doctor and a Local Government Councillor for West Tamar in Tasmania, declared to the Senate panel, “there has been a catastrophic failure of medical ethics, human rights and free speech in this country”.

“I know of no health emergency so great as to necessitate the locking up of healthy people for weeks on end,” she added.

Dr Sladden went on to lament:

Around Australia, healthcare practitioners were suspended and silenced, and many remain so, for speaking out against the vaccines and the pandemic response. Those remaining were too afraid to voice their concerns, preventing one of the most important safety aspects in healthcare, open discourse and questioning of the science.

Also presenting for the People’s Terms of Reference was Professor Ian Brighthope, a retired medical practitioner with over 40 years of experience. He contested that “this vaccine, if you can call it a vaccine, is a new technology applied to almost the entire global population without showing adequate levels of efficacy and safety.”

He explained that when he first heard about the lipid nanoparticle technology it employed, he was convinced “it would never stay in the deltoid muscle as we were promised”. Instead:

It travels all around the body. It travels to the brain, the heart, the blood vessels. It travels to the testes and the ovaries, and this is why we’re seeing so many people suffering from serious adverse reactions, including a lot of heart disease, degenerative central nervous system-type disorders, autoimmune diseases, and certainly many, many gynaecological problems.

“This is so risky,” he summarised, “it should never have been injected into a single human being, ever”.

The Senate Standing Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs will conduct further hearings over the coming weeks and is due to submit a report by the end of March.
