Day 19 – Mercy and Grace to Help

8 February 2024

4.4 MINS

Great numbers of women who regret having had an abortion identify with this verse:

“I hear the screams of anguish, weeping, and wailing in Ramah.
Rachel is weeping uncontrollably for her children.
And she refuses to be comforted, because they are dead and gone.”
~ Matthew 2:18 (TPT)

We now pray for some very real effects of abortion on women. The argument for aborting life in the womb sounds empowering to women and supposedly promotes fierce protection of women’s health, but there is no denying its results — babies growing in the seclusion of their mother’s womb end up being destroyed, their innocent blood being shed. The trauma and pain of having an abortion often lasts a lifetime.

What is rarely mentioned are the not-so-rare physical effects of abortion on the mother’s body and emotions. She may suffer sleep deprivation (nightmares), crying uncontrollably if an abortion is mentioned or on hearing a baby cry.

After taking abortion pills, she may suffer excruciating pain with bleeding for weeks – that may necessitate a blood transfusion. Serious bacterial infection is another very real possibility.

The risk of failure of the abortion pill (including continuing pregnancy and incomplete abortion) occurs in up to 7% of cases prior to 63 days gestation – more trauma for the pregnant woman. In such cases, a surgical procedure is recommended.

Anecdotal, real-life evidence reports other physical/visible effects can include sexual dysfunction, an insatiable desire to replace the baby, and hormone changes with possible links to breast cancer. In some cases, infertility may occur from the scraping of the uterine wall.

Premature Death

A record linkage study of more than 1.1 million pregnancies, including all Finnish women of childbearing age between 1987 to 2000, found within one year, an average six times increased suicide rate associated with abortion compared to women who gave birth. The increased risk of death by accident and homicide was four and ten times, respectively.

There is powerful help for women who have gone down the road of abortion — that help comes from Jesus Christ, Who freely gives to all who believe.

“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathise with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
~ Hebrews 4:15-16

Worship:

Prayer:

Father, we come to Your Throne of Grace again today, and we bring the women of our nation who are suffering the physical effects of choosing an abortion.

Lord, You are the healer and restorer who works miracles on women, like the one who had suffered for twelve years of excessive bleeding (Luke 8:43-48). Lord, graciously give the gift of faith to women who need your healing touch today. Let them receive Your blessing in every part that has been damaged, and may they hear Your words of affirmation.

And He said to her, Daughter, your faith (your confidence and trust in Me) has made you well! Go (enter) into peace (untroubled, undisturbed well-being).’ (Luke 8:48 AMPC)

Let Your mercy flow to the post-abortion damaged women and heal them. In Jesus’ precious Name, we pray, Amen.

Prayer Points:

  • Ask for great grace to abound to women who are contemplating an abortion, and those who have had one, to hear wise counsel. May the Holy Spirit lead women to a place of deep conviction without condemnation, to seek our Lord and find Him and be led by Him to miraculous healing and restoration that becomes a catalyst to help other women.
  • May the Lord empower us to be bold witnesses of Your Gospel. Open doors for effective evangelism and grant us a heart for the lost. Manifest His signs and wonders through us, confirming His Word and drawing people to salvation. Let miracles and divine encounters accompany our efforts (Mark 16:15-20; Acts 1:8).
  • It is crucial for Australians to stand united and shout out for the Babies Born Alive through failed abortion to be given life-saving treatment and care and not left to die. Pray for the Senate to vote for the Babies Born Alive Bill. Senator Matt Canavan, Senator Ralph Babet and Senator Alex Antic have co-signed a bill to give babies born alive from abortion a right to life. No More Delay! Let this become a loud election issue for this government. Hear firsthand a midwife’s grief and a Born Alive after a failed abortion story.
  • Pray the Love Adelaide — Walk for Life 2024 on Feb 10th from 10am-12pm will grow in momentum to double last year — that nothing will hinder the church standing against legalised abortion, to add their strength and support to end the abortion crisis in our nation and beyond. Pray for health for everyone, especially the overseas guest speaker, doors of favour to open, more volunteers for the walk and the weather to be favourable.
  • We pray for every state and territory of Australia to recognise that every life is a gift from God — for the church to arise in the cause of defending life in the womb from the horror of abortion and come together to stand for life. For greater numbers to be in attendance at the “Walk for Life Adelaide” on 10 February 2024 and “March for Life” Brisbane — date TBA, Mackay “March for the Babies” October, “March for the Babies” Melbourne, Love Sydney Walk for Life — date TBA, Perth’s rally for Life in May, and for all Territories and States to join in and hold a Walk for Life in their city/region.
  • Even though every state in Australia has changed Legislation to allow abortion up to birth, we can all work together to change such legislation. It’s all about numbers — Pray that we unify and work together to make abortion unthinkable in Australia. Pray for the number of awakened righteous politicians and leaders in every sphere of influence to increase, and be empowered and emboldened to change the laws and influence this generation with the truth about abortion.
  • Ask for many more churches across the nation to be aware of the women in their midst who are suffering through having had an abortion. To have spiritual discernment to identify women with a crisis pregnancy who need the help, hope and love of Jesus to keep the baby or choose adoption into a loving home. That every church be a trusted place of mercy and compassion to be known and operating as Houses of Refuge for the unborn and families. For Hubs of Love to be established in every city and town in the nation.

‘And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.’
~ Galatians 6:9 (NKJV)
