Day 13 – Overcoming Grief
“For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret,
but worldly grief produces death.” ~ 2 Corinthians 7:10 (CSB)
Grief is a very real and powerful emotion that results from a great loss or sorrow. When we are convicted by the Holy Spirit, it is always with a great deal of compassion, providing a way to bring us closer to the Lord. However, when we have overwhelming grief, many times, the response to it can be that of worldly grief that eventually leads to death.
When faced with the choice of what to do with an unplanned pregnancy, fear can be the driving force, coupled with guilt or shame. A woman can take the advice of many voices, even her own “worldly” wisdom, that tells her that abortion is a simple, quick way to eradicate the “problem” so she can then “get on with her life.”
Suddenly, after the abortion, she is hit by a grief that constantly torments her, and she has no one to help relieve this pain of the “CHOICE” she has made. She can only find true healing through Jesus, Who took our grief and sorrow upon Himself.
Scripture describes our precious Saviour in Isaiah 53:3-4 (NKJV) —
3 “He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
4 Surely, He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.”
Even those who know the Lord can be trapped in grief and sorrow if they hold onto it. We have a God of all comfort Who took our grief and our sorrow, so that we are now able to comfort others in the same way we were comforted. (2 Corinthians 1:3-5)
Many people experience grief over abortion – not just the woman who has had the abortion, but the fathers, grandparents, siblings everyone who knows about the abortion can suddenly feel overwhelmed and powerless. The truth is, abortion affects everyone – hear firsthand a midwife’s grief.
There is redemption and restoration in Christ. It is His Church – His Bride, who is the physical manifestation of His presence. The Church, who are Houses of Refuge and carriers of the compassion of the Lord, is comprised of those who can help those overwhelmed by grief. Forgiveness and freedom come for all who believe through the cross, death, resurrection, and ascension with Him, where life is abundant and eternal in Christ.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus, Who willingly suffered our grief and took the punishment for our sin.
Thank You that You are moved by compassion, and help us when we repent and turn to You.
Lord, we release all our grief and sorrow to You now – we are not able to bear what You have already paid such a high price for, as You suffered agony, sorrow and grief for all of humanity. Lord, we ask, Father, forgive all who are part of the bloodshed of the innocent through legalised abortion.
Lord Jesus, thank You that redemption in You is complete and eternal. Lord, soften hearts and search out those who are trapped in grief and worldly sorrow, and bring them to glorious salvation as they turn to You. Let us see Your face and hear Your words of love. You are the one who heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds.
God of power and revival, we cry out for a spiritual awakening in our land. Break through the spiritual darkness and complacency that surrounds us. Pour out Your Spirit on all flesh and draw people to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Bring conviction of sin and a hunger for righteousness. May Your Church rise up in unity and boldness. (2 Chronicles 7:14; Joel 2:28)
In Your powerful and redeeming name, Yeshua Our Lord, Amen.
Prayer Points
- Pray that the Spirit of Truth goes forth to make abortion unthinkable in Australia.
- That the Body of Christ unifies in prayer and advocacy, upholding the sanctity of life from conception to natural death in our unique spheres of influence — speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves.
- Pray for the Lord to bless and empower men (according to Malachi 4:6) to lead in the protection of women and children.
- That Australians will vote according to the defence of LIFE in all the upcoming elections. That the political leaders who have muzzled the politicians from any discussion or bills about abortion — repent, and these bans be lifted in Qld, SA and Federally. That the Babies Born Alive (Human Rights — Children Born Alive Protection Bill 2021) tabled in the Australian Federal Parliament be passed with no more delay, legislating across Australia that babies born alive after a failed abortion, receive proper medical care and legal protection.
- That every church across Australia be a trusted place of mercy and compassion, operating as a House of Refuge. Creating havens of safety and acceptance for those experiencing an unplanned/crisis pregnancy or who have been hurt by a previous abortion.
- For Hubs of Love to be established in every city and town in the nation.
- Women and men in crisis to phone the compassionate and confidential Pregnancy Help Australia or visit a life-affirming pregnancy centre — being protected from pro-abortion doctors or clinics.
- That the abortionist doctors and nurses involved will have the spiritual veil of deception removed to see the humanity of the unborn — causing deep repentance. Help the Body of Christ to be ready to lead them in healing.
- We pray for every state and territory of Australia to arise in the cause of defending life in the womb from the tragedy of abortion and come together to walk for life. A blessing on the “Walk for Life Adelaide” on 8 February 2025 and “March for Life” Brisbane — date TBA, Mackay “March for the Babies” in October, “March for the Babies” Melbourne, Perth’s Rally for Life in May, and for all Territories and States to join in and hold a Walk for Life in their city/region.
- Pray for Love Adelaide’s Walk for Life 2025 on 8th February from 10am-12pm to grow in momentum and fruitfulness. Pray for effective doors of favour to open, health and strength for the leaders, speakers and volunteers, for finances, safety and perfect weather.
