Divine Justice During Purim (the Feast of Esther) 2025
As we approach Purim (Feast of Esther), we remember that Persia was about to annihilate the Hebrew people.
But God!
Divine Justice
“Divine justice” are the words the Lord spoke to me in February 2025. The newly appointed President Trump had stated that all the hostages being held in Gaza had to be released by noon on February 15th – or else. Israel and Hamas are now negotiating the second phase of the deal. We thank You, Lord, for the hostages that have been released.
When I wrote an article in December about Christmas and Chanukkah coinciding, I mentioned that something divine was coming down from heaven. But I was unsure what it would look like.
Now I understand more clearly that we are witnessing the effects of God’s plumbline being dropped – and now we will see turnarounds not possible before. In fact, change is happening before our very eyes.
Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.
And the LORD said unto me, “Amos, what seest thou?” And I said, “A plumbline.” Then said the Lord, “Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more.” (Amos 7:7–8 KJV)
Most of us will agree that President Trump has instituted massive changes quickly, and we live in days when almost anything can and does happen.
Since the Lord is the God of the Breakthrough (Ba’al Perazim), we shouldn’t consider these sorts of reversals as unusual.
So David went to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there. And he said, “The LORD has broken through my enemies before me, like a breakthrough of water.” Therefore, he called the name of that place Baal Perazim. (2 Samuel 5:20 NKJV)
Taking Courage from Queen Esther
Today, we are sharing about Purim and Queen Esther, a standout hero. You do not need a general’s uniform with four stars like they have in America to be a hero. You just need to hear from the Lord and do what He says.
Esther’s courage came from her faith and from being loved and cared for by Mordecai. She was also loved by King Ahasuerus. But because of the strict protocols of the day, she still had to be wise and not act recklessly.
For some of us, it sounds like Queen Esther was able “to boldly go where no man has gone before” (yes, a Star Trek quote!).
She entered the king’s presence and interceded for the salvation of her nation. The king had not summoned her. But the king received her, even though there was the possibility of being killed for this act of boldness.
Are we bold enough today to stand up against the tide of antisemitism and world opinion and obey the living God?
What is God Doing Right Now?
Divine justice doesn’t always come in the packages that we expect. His ways are not our ways.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD.
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8–9 NKJV)
Many of us are welcoming these “divine justice” moments. Instead of the world going further and further away from the Lord’s ways, we are witnessing shifts that have the potential to bring us back to His heart and back to His ways.
Even the heavens are speaking to us through the planetary alignments of January and February this year.
Peer up at the sky on a clear night at the end of February, and you could be in for a treat. Throughout January and February six planets – Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune – have been visible in the night sky. During just one night – 28 February – they will be joined by Mercury, a rare seven-planet alignment visible in the sky. It is a spectacle that will not be visible again until 2040.
Instead of living with a feeling of chaos all around, I see the Lord bringing correction and alignment. One could call it “divine justice” or divine order.
This year, Purim begins at sunset on Thursday, 13th March and concludes at nightfall on Friday, 14th March.
If one lives outside of Israel, two days (13th – 15th March) are allotted to this holiday due to time zone differences.
“Divine justice”, which is the title of this article, is a very clear message that the Lord spoke to me personally and reflects the core of our being.
… because as He is, so are we in this world. (1 John 4:17b NKJV)
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Mercy and truth go before Your face. (Psalm 89:14 NKJV)
From Mourning to Joy Due to God’s Preservation of Israel
For we have been sold, my people and I, to be destroyed, to be killed, and to be annihilated. Had we been sold as male and female slaves, I would have held my tongue, although the enemy could never compensate for the king’s loss. Esther 7:4 NKJV
These death threats and death wishes over the people of Israel remind us of the present day, where Israel has found it necessary to fight a war on several fronts. The battle has been fierce, but the Lord is bringing Israel through this struggle.
If the Jewish people were destroyed in the time of Queen Esther, it meant that the Messiah would not be born. And so, we see time and again that the Lord has faithfully preserved His beloved chosen people for His own divine purposes. Truly, our joy is in the Lord, our Messiah, Yeshua.
We have been grafted in (Romans 11:17) and partake of the blessings given to Israel because of Yeshua’s sacrifice on the cross. We are saved by faith and become partakers of the inheritance.
Even though the Holocaust was a huge tragedy for the Jewish people, out of it came the Jewish State, a home for the Father’s beloved Jewish people. A moment of joy.
And may it be so again that after October 7th, the massacre, the slaughter, the horror, may the Lord turn around this situation and return joy to His people.
Purim is a joyous time for the Jewish people. They are very good at celebrating even when the conditions are not ideal. I was in Israel last year in March 2024, and I saw that even in a time of war, there were parades down the streets, people walking along the streets in costume, and a level of celebration, albeit a bit subdued. Still, the people of Israel know how to take hold of these special times.
Here are some ways in which Purim is celebrated:
- The reading of the Book of Esther
- A time when many like to dress in costumes
- There are parades down the streets
- A festive meal
- Drinking of extra wine to heighten the joy, even permission to get drunk
- Gifts of food to friends
- Charity given to the poor
“They tried to kill us; they failed; let’s eat!”, is a famous Jewish saying.
This summarises many of the events that the Jewish people have been through.
עם ישרעל חי (“Am Yisrael Chai!”), meaning, “The People of Israel live”. This is due to the eternal covenant that the Lord has made with the Jewish people, as found in Genesis 17:
“And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you.” (Genesis 17:7 NKJV)
“I hereby make this covenant – this sacred bond – between Me and you and all of your children and their children’s children throughout the coming generations. It will be an eternal covenant. I will be your God and the God to all who come after you!” (Genesis 17:7 VOICE)
The Present Day
What if we see the story of Esther like this?
- President Trump is the King
- Queen Esther is the One New Man (Jew and Gentile together)
- The Hebrews are Israel
Now God’s people, the Jews, can defend themselves properly because President Trump has released ordnance to Israel that Biden had previously withheld. Israel can now deal with Hamas more effectively and hopefully bring home the remaining hostages.
Perhaps the Lord inserted the book of Esther to show each one of us that regardless of our backgrounds, He can use us. He desires to use us to do outstanding things that will ultimately bring him glory.
Time for Action
“For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14 NKJV)
When I was first saved, the Lord called me to serve His beloved chosen people. But it is only in more recent times that doors have opened so that I may do this in an effective and meaningful way.
It is great news that Australia’s universities have taken a major step in addressing antisemitism. More than 30 institutions have formally adopted a comprehensive definition designed to protect Jewish students and staff from discrimination, harassment, and vilification.
Barbara Miller, together with her husband, has done extensive work in relation to the Jewish community. You can find their website here.
Recently, Barbara Miller has developed an antisemitism curriculum that is ready to be piloted in schools.
Barbara recently wrote:
“We are at a crisis point in our nation regarding antisemitism and our education system, particularly in the universities, has been a breeding ground for it. We need to intervene at the earliest level to provide teachers with units that will dispel false narratives and build empathy, compassion and a sense of identification with children of diverse backgrounds…. Once the modules are ready, we will invite schools to take part in a pilot program.”
Now it is Your Turn
Each one of us has received gifts from the Lord. Each one of us has a unique expression to give to the world around us.
Barbara Miller has been key in the development of this antisemitism curriculum. But the door is now open for what you can contribute towards defeating antisemitism in Australia.
It might be prayer. Some of us attend the various vigils and rallies being held around the country since the Oct 7th massacre by Hamas. Others might find a way forward by volunteering in various Jewish organisations.
May the Lord use each one of us to be a part of the answer here in Australia and beyond so that antisemitism may become unthinkable in our community.
