National Day of Repentance

Australia’s Heart Needs Healing: National Day of Repentance Announced

We need national repentance, followed by revival and reformation, if Australia is to see a change for the better. The National Day of Repentance, on 21 April 2025, is a major step towards that needed change.

Proverbs 14:34 tells us, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.”

Australia was founded as a nation in 1901 as a Christian country with laws that reflected God’s moral standards.

At that time, approximately 96% of Australians ticked the Christian box in the Census. The majority of those attended church regularly. The Christian convictions of nearly the whole country saw (on the whole) strong marriages, families, religious freedom, the sanctity of life upheld, and much more.

Australia is quite a different nation in 2025. As our social statistics keep reminding us, this change is for the worse.

In the lead-up to the election, we are convinced that Australia must repent if we are to see a change for the better. We need national repentance followed by revival and reformation.

National Day of Repentance: Monday, 21 April

That is why the Canberra Declaration, in conjunction with many other key Christian leaders, are excited to announce the National Day of Repentance on Easter Monday, 21 April. Watch Warwick introduce this nationwide call to prayer in the video below.

In 2 Chronicles 7:14, God says, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

As Billy Graham once said, “To get nations back on their feet, we must first get down on our knees.”

Repenting on Behalf of Nations

Repentance is not only vital for individuals. It is also critical for nations.

There are many examples in Scripture when individuals repent before God on behalf of their nation. Daniel is one example in Daniel 9. Moses is another in Exodus 32.

In the example of Ezekiel 22:30, God searched for a man among them who would… stand in the gap before me on behalf of the land so that I might not destroy it”. He tragically found no one.

Just one person could have changed the course of history.

It is for these reasons that Walter Wink said,

“Intercessory prayer is spiritual defiance of what is in the way of what God has promised. Intercession visualises an alternative future to the one apparently fated by the momentum of current forces.”

“Even a small number of people, firmly committed to the new inevitability on which they have fixed their imaginations, can decisively affect the shape the future takes.”

“History belongs to the intercessors.”

We invite you to be a person that changes history this National Day of Repentance.

Seeking a Joint Outpouring of God’s Word and Spirit

The National Day of Repentance will be a time of “fighting in the Spirit on our knees as we contend for the sick heart of our nation”, as Canberra House of Prayer leader Hilary Moroney put it.

Recently, Warwick interviewed Hilary about the background and importance of this day. Watch her explain how we will seek a joint outpouring of God’s Word and Spirit as we contend for revival in Australia in the video below.

For 50 years Australia has been going in the Wrong Direction. Only Prayer + Repentence can save Australia + us. The Lord guided me to find The Daily Canberra Declaration. How I found you or why I don’t know, but, I am pleased I did because it has strenghtened my Faith .United Christians + Jews , we can stand strong. Sad how Godless Australia has become. Panders to every religion, but, attacks Christian +Jewish beliefs. We are now considered “the Enemies “of Australia. I suspect my father stole my copy of The New Testament (to put in his private , little museum) which was presented to me as a child. He gave me instead a lovely copy of the entire Bible which I have passed on to my grandson as I have a Douay copy which I won as a prize for Christian Doctrine (virtually same wording as King James Bible ).The Commemorative New Testament had on its Cover the “Crown + E R 2 – Coronation June 1953 , insidesaid ” presented by the govt of South Australia…….GOD SAVE THE QUEEN “.I have a second New Testament presented to my husband, Ronald Ian McLellan, when he joined the Army. How things have changed for the worse–no gift to all soldiers , or to school -children to commemorate ascension to the throne by Charles 3 who invited to his home Muslims for a day of Ramadan ! As Head ofthe Anglican Church,Defender of the Faith, he should be ashamed, as should Australian Govt !
