I Looked for a Man to Stand in the Gap: Day 1
Intention
To join the Lord’s call for the Church to pray and intercede for this land of Australia in the lead-up to this election.
Scripture
“I searched for a man among them who would repair the wall and stand in the gap before me on behalf of the land so that I might not destroy it, but I found no one.”
– Ezekiel 22:30
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord asking: ‘Who will I send? Who will go for us?’
I said: ‘Here I am. Send me.’”
– Isaiah 6:8
Reflection
Australia’s current political trajectory is deeply disturbing. We are a nation that, by and large, has turned away from a holy and righteous God.
Our political trajectory reflects the hearts of the Australian people. We are a sinful nation that has lost our moral compass on all major issues, including abortion, euthanasia, sexual integrity, support for Israel, etc.
The verse from Ezekiel is an indictment of Israel at a time when she was in deep sin and disobedience to the Lord. The same verse applies to Australia.
God looked for anyone willing to “stand in the gap” and intercede for a nation gone drastically wayward. But not a single person was found.
In stark contrast, the verse from Isaiah describes a man willing to answer God’s call. God, in His grace, has given us, His people, an opportunity to stand up and be counted.
Many Christian people and groups here and overseas are earnestly praying as we approach this pivotal federal election. Let’s join together to cry out to the Lord for the sake of Australia.
We (The Canberra Declaration) are facilitating 21 days of prayer and fasting for the election. Let us meet the call as Isaiah did when he said, “Here I am. Send me”.
As we respond with humility, repentance, and prayer, I know God will answer our cries. Above all, we pray that Jesus’ name will be exalted and the gospel of the kingdom proclaimed.
During these 21 days, we will pray nightly online via Zoom at 8 PM AEST. There will also be special times of prayer on ANZAC Day evening and the National Day of Repentance on 21 April (9 AM – 5 PM).
Australia needs the Lord. We need to pray. We need to intercede for Australia. We need to proclaim His gospel.

Prayer
Dear Father in Heaven,
We are here to stand in the gap for our land before you. We confess our sin of putting our own will above Yours, which You have laid out in Your Word. Forgive us for losing sight of being Your body to the world. Purify our hearts.
We pray for a national revival and spiritual healing. Please heal our land. We pray for Your peace and blessing to be poured out upon Australia according to Your mercy.
Help us to put on the armour of God daily, stand firm, and commit to praying for our families, communities, and nation.
Help us shine the light of God’s love and mercy, never losing sight that our struggle is not with other people but against the spiritual forces that influence us.
We pray for revival and spiritual awakening to sweep throughout Australia, Oceania, and the rest of the world.
B’shem Yeshua (in Jesus’ name),
Amen.

Amen and Amen. Thank you so much for this vital initiative. This morning as I was praying the Lord gave me this Scripture: Deuteronomy 20:1-5: “When you go to war against your enemies and see horses and chariots and an army greater than yours, do not be afraid of them, because the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, will be with you. When you are about to go into battle, the priest shall come forward and address the army. He shall say: Hear, Israel. Today you are going into battle against your enemies Do not be fainthearted or afraid; do not panic or be terrified by them. For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.” He is the same yesterday, today and forever! Hallelujah!
Thanks Teri. It’s the only way forward for Australia.
