Australia’s Abortion Tragedy: Will You Open Your Mouth for the Mute?
There’s a verse in Proverbs 31:8 which says, “Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute.” Every Christian knows that the LORD wants us to defend the cause of the weak and the oppressed, but sadly not every follower of Jesus is willing to open their mouth to speak in their defence.
The subject of abortion is a case in point, with approximately 89,000 occurring each year in Australia alone. The sheer scale of the number is almost beyond comprehension. But into this space comes a ministry offering compassion, healing and, most of all, hope.
Shelter in the Storm
House of Refuge is providing an excellent model which can be easily reproduced in different church settings. What’s more, they have also created one of the most moving short films called I’ll Speak for You, I’ve ever seen. I’d strongly encourage you to sit and watch it through to the very end because it’s beautifully done.
Please consider praying about how you might establish a House of Refuge in your own community. To speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. As Peter Barnes once wrote:
As early as 1933, as Nazi persecution of the Jews gathered momentum, Bonhoeffer saw clearly the duty of the Christian. He turned to the Word of God, and Proverbs 31.8 was often on his lips: ‘Open your mouth for the dumb.’ This same duty rests upon the Christian in our own day as increasingly abortion is practised and accepted. [1]
Will you open your mouth for the mute? Are you prepared to help those in crisis find love and support? Can you pray to the Lord for His wisdom, guidance and grace, so you can be an integral component in seeing abortion end?

Recall Andrew Thorburn. He lost his job not because he did anything wrong, but because a new worldview has quietly captured Australia's public square. The Australian Christian Freedom Index shows just how far that capture has gone.

The most wicked thing is that there are people making money from this evil. As we have seen recently, even the mother is being given tax payer dollars after an abortion.
We can only keep praying.
I thank God for the vision & drive of Jodie Pickard to bring the House of Refuge ministry to this country. And for the tireless advocacy of Dr Joanna Howe It may only be the ones & twos that we save initially but as we be a voice for the voiceless, and intercede for the little ones, our culture will change. This is God’s heart.
Abortion is evil. Biblical Christians must seek to abolish the practise of abortion at every level, including vaccines created from cell lines prepared from tissues of aborted foetuses . Abortion abolitionism is the goal. Life matters.
What I love about the House of Refuge ministry is that it provides yet another avenue for Christians of all shapes, colours and sizes to serve the Lord in discipleship. We are all sinners, and there is no one who is righteous, but there are consequences to sin,
I love that we can both advocate for life and serve those, within and without the Church who are burdened.
Jesus said, ” I have come that you might have LIFE and have it more abundantly”.
Death by abortion is the opposite – like a fruit tree cut down before it’s first crop.
