Charlie Kirk

Charlie Kirk and the Spiritual ‘Turning Point’ of Western Civilisation

26 September 2025

4.3 MINS

The martyrdom of Charlie Kirk on 10 September 2025 for his Christian beliefs has become one of the most significant events not only of the year but even of the twenty-first century. That opening sentence might seem like hyperbole, but according to Relevant Magazine:

The memorial service, which lasted more than five hours, was broadcast live by six national networks and streamed widely online.

On YouTube, Fox News drew 2.4 million views of its livestream by Monday afternoon, and the Associated press recorded 1.15 million. Kirk’s own YouTube channel reported 6.6 million, while his X account logged 2 million viewers. Those four streams alone surpassed 13 million viewers, and Turning Point USA claims that more than 100 million people viewed the service across all platforms.

Those numbers were all on top of the 200,000 people who attended the event in person. Due to the nature of the internet, people will be viewing parts of the service for years to come. Hence, Steve Deace commented on X:

What made Kirk’s memorial especially noteworthy was the level of Christian witness that was involved from nearly every speaker, many of whom were senior officials in the White House administration as well as other cultural figures.

Not even the funeral for the late Queen—who was herself a born-again Christian as well as the titular head of the Church of England—displayed such a clear and courageous proclamation of the Gospel. Consider but one more example out of the many more I could have chosen, from Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State:

All of which is to say, to understand Charlie Kirk’s death as something of a ‘turning point’ (pun intended) for America politically, culturally and even spiritually is no longer a controversial statement to make but a well-demonstrated fact. The world is a very different place from what it was only two weeks ago, and God willing I think we’ll see the impact of what has occurred for many more years to come.

Signs of Revival and Hostility

Along with many others, I have been both stunned and amazed at how the political assassination of Charlie Kirk has affected not only me but people throughout the world. Maybe that explains why we are seeing signs of real revival whereas sadly others have reacted with hate and scorn.

Take, for instance, the extraordinary events currently occurring at the University of Pittsburgh. As reported by Vision Christian Media:

Last week, it held its first evangelistic event called Pitt for Jesus.

Nearly 600 students attended. At least 65 gave their lives to Christ and around 80 were baptised, some for a second time.

The organisers claimed countless more students were freed from addictions and other strongholds on their lives.

They described the event as “nothing short of revival.”

The athletes behind Pitt Purpose said the “presence of God was tangible.”

The group posted on social media: “People met God at the altar, many were set free, addictions were broken, and an entire university was touched in just one night!”

In contrast, the Muslim Democratic Senator Ilhan Omar—who is currently being investigated for marrying her own brother to gain US citizenship—described people supportive of Kirk as “Full of Sh*t” and even re-posted a video on X in which she stated, Kirk was a “reprehensible human being” and that “Charlie Kirk was Dr Frankenstein and his monster shot him through the neck.”

When later challenged, Omar only doubled down on her comments, explaining why she and 57 House Democrats recently refused to support a resolution honouring Charlie Kirk, condemning political violence, and calling for respectful debate.

The Blood of the Martyrs

There is a famous line by the early church father Tertullian, who said, “the blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church”. It’s such a profound and timeless truth. As many others have pointed out, the LORD seems to be doing exactly the same thing now. i.e. using evil which was intended to harm and turning it instead for good and the saving of many lives (Genesis 50:20). For instance, in his eulogy for Kirk, Dr Ben Carson said:

Have you noticed that a lot of preachers don’t want to talk about what’s in the Bible if it’s counter to the social gospel? Well, I challenge the ministers out there to talk about what the Bible says and not what the leftists say and to get on board… get on board of the revival that is coming. We are not going to be able to stop it. You see evidence of it right here in this stadium. We’re all going to be a part of it.

Dr Carson then went on to make the following observation:

In closing, I want to read a passage from John 12:24 remembering that Charlie was shot 12:24 p.m. “Verily, verily, I say unto you—this is Christ speaking—except a corn of wheat fall onto the ground and die, it abideth alone, but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. And I want to thank Charlie for his sacrifice because much fruit is going to be realized. Thank you.

This is also what happened at the time of the Reformation with the death of George Wishart. Through his execution by being burnt at the stake when he was only 33 years of age, the LORD caused the “smoking of reviving fire” to arise in Scotland through John Knox and many others.

Beware of the Satanic Counter-Attack!

At this point in time, though, we need to be more aware than ever of the enemy’s strategy to counter-attack the victories we have witnessed. That could come through self-righteousness, pride or temptation to some form of sinful desire. Whatever form it takes, now is the time to be particularly vigilant and alert to Satan’s wicked schemes.

The Scriptures teach that our enemy the Devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour and that we need to resist him, standing firm in the faith (1 Peter 5:8-9). Our Enemy will not give up the ground we have taken back without a fight.

As we all know, while the defeat of the Devil is certain (i.e. John 12:31; Romans 16:20; 1 John 3:8; Revelation 20:10), the war still rages. Let us stand firm in the Gospel then, and fight in the way and with the weapons which God has equipped us with (2 Corinthians 10:3-5; Ephesians 6:10-20). This was something Charlie Kirk himself performed brilliantly, and hence a model we all should emulate.
