Trump’s Moral Diplomacy Test for Australia: Are We a Valued Ally or an Embattled Enemy?
President Trump is redefining what it means to be an ally of the United States of America. Will Australia do what it takes to become a valued ally or be relegated to the ranks of embattled enemy?
Many were surprised that President Donald Trump treated Prime Minister Anthony Albanese with kid gloves during their October 2025 White House meeting. It seemed that Trump was willing to overlook several issues to ice their rare earth minerals deal. I thought we’d see a repeat of Trump’s confrontation with the South African president, but it was not to be. Kevin Rudd alone was humiliated.
Just one month after meeting with Albanese, President Trump has introduced a new type of tariff. He is now demanding alignment on matters the left would consider “culture war” issues.
As reported by Gateway Hispanic and other outlets, Trump has ordered US embassies to take note of countries whose authorities promote or fund abortions, euthanasia, gender reassignment surgeries on minors and DEI policies, signalling a paradigm shift in US diplomacy:
According to State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott, these directives aim to expose violations such as the “chemical or surgical mutilation of children in gender modification procedures,” the state promotion of abortion as “health care,” coercion toward euthanasia, and the imposition of DEI policies that discriminate in employment or education based on race or gender.
Mass immigration poses an existential threat to Western civilisation and undermines the stability of key US allies. Today, the Department of State has instructed US embassies to report on the human rights implications and public safety impacts of mass immigration.
In addition, embassies are instructed to monitor medical abuses such as forced medical testing…
A Shift in US Diplomacy
The report continues:
Under Trump, diplomacy will no longer serve as a vehicle to export cultural relativism that equates late-term abortion with a human right or gender transition in adolescents with social progress. Instead, it will prioritise holding accountable governments that subsidise these practices, potentially affecting future foreign aid allocations and strategic alliances.
For example, the emphasis on religious freedom includes documenting antisemitism and violence against Christians, reminding the world how the global left has tolerated the rise of extremism under the pretext of multiculturalism.
While the UN and the EU impose gender quotas and online censorship through laws such as the Digital Services Act, this US directive sends a powerful message: nations that place the progressive agenda above human dignity will be exposed, not celebrated.
This initiative aligns with Trump’s vision of a strong and morally upright America, countering the advance of leftist globalism that has eroded borders and family values. By requiring embassies to document these violations, an impartial record is created that could influence trade agreements, sanctions, and votes in international forums, ensuring that diplomacy serves truth, not ideology.
Also, according to the report, “Conservative experts celebrate this move as a return to America’s founding principles, where life and liberty are non-negotiable. Senator Marco Rubio, a key influence on Trump’s foreign policy, has publicly defended these directives as protecting the vulnerable from “ideological experiments” disguised as rights.”
The Implications for Australia
Considering these diplomatic developments, it’s worth asking how Australia scores on the key issues listed above:
- Chemical or surgical mutilation of children in gender modification procedures
- Coercion toward euthanasia
- The imposition of DEI policies
- Mass immigration
- Forced medical testing
- Late-term abortion
- Antisemitism and violence against Christians
- The rise of extremism under the pretext of multiculturalism
- Gender quotas
- Online censorship
Personally, I give Australia a zero out of ten.
The US will not look favourably on Australia if we continue down the woke path. Our continued pursuit of these policies could compromise our relationship with the US from both a trade and a military perspective.
Obviously, we must look to God and not Trump to solve these issues. Frankly, I don’t see some of them being resolved until Jesus returns to judge the earth. Nevertheless, isn’t it exciting to see a nation raise a righteous standard? Should we not find common cause with the US on these matters, not just on trade and defence?
If Labor cannot embrace Trump’s moral agenda — and I don’t believe they can or will — Christians must encourage and support politicians who will stand for righteousness and at the same time, pray for and engage with our communities to discover God’s truth in all these matters.
Are we not here now for such a time as this?

Agree.

Labor will never change, they are getting worse. To see the PM step off of a plane wearing a Tshirt that not only the name of the band is taken directly from the Nazi concentration camps section where young Jewish women were kept and raped but under the name it doubled up with another direct reference to the same thing. What man that age wears something like that after it was pointed out to him a couple of yrs earlier that it was anti-Semitic, he stubbornly wore it knowing 100% what it all meant. He speaks out on Nazi symbols and salutes yet you tell me which is worse, I say his Tshirt is an abomination. Labors full support of late term abortion is full support for murder of babies. Does he think peoples souls just float around waiting for a baby to be born and enter it? Our souls and who we are, are already in the fetus from day 1. Note when Mary went to see Elizabeth how John the Baptist inside the womb showed joy at the presence of Jesus in Mary’s womb and at that stage Jesus was just weeks old! This govt is pro kill babies, people, its totally sick and Godless. Why be pro kill people (babies) which reduces population and be pro mass immigration on the other hand. This reduces Australian born people and replaces them with foreign peoples who don’t hold nor have ever learnt Australian values. Most are from countries where crimes against women are hugely more common than in Australia. Pro abortion coupled with mass immigration equals replacement. This govt has recognised the Palestinian state, the same ones who danced in the streets after they killed people, raped women and murdered and butchered babies. This Govt is pro suicide. It is also pro transition mutilating children which again is another blow to Australias natural birth rate. They are pro aquiring the most productive farmland in the country for rebewable infrastructure and rare earth minerals. They have destroyed Victoria and they will destroy Australia. They are the most Godless anti Christian Govt Australia has had. Gods judgement is already upon nations that reject Him and practice openly evil.
We are under His judgement too and its going to get a lot worse. Who in their right mind thinks that the ways of Australia now will have God blessing us as a nation!? We are headed head long into the very opposite.
Australians wanted freedom of everything and they got it, they have the Govt they deserve.
Jesus wept… John 11:35
Trump’s saying what most of us are saying, we need a new government in Canberra but we won’t get one because of Labour’s influence on the immigration issue. Wake up Oz.
We are here for such a time as this! Righteousness exalts a nation.
ATM we are not exalted in God’s eyes.
Is it not the role of the church to be salt and light? Let’s be what God has called us to be and use our talents to influence our communities. Most people simply don’t understand what is happening. With God’s help and some personal effort we can educate our friends and neighbours and start the change process.
Shalom
trump will be powerless within a matter of months and our government knows it
there will be no policy change and trump is just another reason australians are moving away from america and the church
senator lindsay graham put it best
“if we choose trump it will destroy us and we will deserve it”
he was referring to his own party, the republicans, but it really applies to anybody or institution who supports trump
Andy!!!!
I beg to differ, The Australian people are moving toward the church as it is the only light and help to be found bar none. As we celebrate this wonderful season of the gift of Jesus Christ, lets not just see a cuddly baby, He appeared to take away Your Sin, My Sin, no matter what happens this is the most important truth. you can reject it and will meet your make and he will ask why, when He is so evident!
The Portuguese called Australia ‘the great southern land of the Holy Spirit’ shouldn’t this inspire us all, for we are truly blessed and should shout this from the rooftops.
the portuguese, like all colonialists, took what they wanted, killed who they pleased and left every place they conquered a smoking ruin
yes, it was done in gods name but it was actually done for power, money, prestige and racism
