Biden Administration Spent 4 Years Waging War on Christians, Landmark US Report Finds

A landmark US federal report has found the Biden administration systematically targeted Christians across seventeen government agencies — prosecuting pro-life grandmothers while ignoring church arsons, investigating Catholics as terrorists, and fining Christian universities more harshly than institutions that covered up child sex abuse.

A landmark report has found that the Biden administration pursued a sustained, multi-agency campaign of hostility against Christians.

Under Biden, the US government prosecuted pro-life demonstrators at nearly twice the sentence length of pro-abortion counterparts, investigated traditional Catholics as domestic terrorism threats, denied tax-exempt status to Christian organisations because of their Republican-aligned politics, and levied fines against Christian universities which dwarfed the penalties imposed on secular institutions that sheltered child sex abusers.

The 200-page report, released Thursday by the Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias, contains findings from seventeen federal agencies and is accompanied by more than 300 pages of exhibits. It was compiled in response to an executive order signed by President Donald Trump in February last year.

“No American should live in fear that the federal government will punish them for their faith,” said Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, who chairs the Task Force. “As our report lays out, the Biden Administration’s actions devastated the lives of many Christian Americans. That devastation ended with President Trump.”

Kelly Shackelford, President and Chief Counsel of First Liberty Institute, which provided testimony to the Task Force, called the findings “shocking” and said the Biden administration’s record “should serve as a warning” that America “can never let this happen again”.

Prosecuting Pro-Lifers

The report’s most detailed findings concern the Biden Department of Justice’s use of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act against peaceful pro-life demonstrators.

The report found that the Biden DOJ functioned as an enforcement arm for pro-abortion non-governmental organisations, including the National Abortion Federation, Planned Parenthood and the Feminist Majority Foundation. These organisations alerted prosecutors to pro-life activities, gathered evidence at the DOJ’s behest, and prepared dossiers on Christian advocates that included photographs and personal information about their children.

Biden DOJ prosecutors requested an average sentence of 26.8 months for pro-life defendants, compared to 12.3 months for pro-abortion defendants, the report noted. Pro-life defendants were ultimately sentenced to an average of 14 months; pro-abortion defendants to three months.

Internal communications also showed prosecutors privately mocking Christian pro-life views as “culty”, and complained when a FACE case was assigned to a “very Catholic” judge who was “very particular about the bond conditions and not infringing on the defendants’ First Amendment rights”.

In at least one case, the Biden DOJ knowingly withheld evidence that had been requested by pro-life defence counsel, falsely claiming it did not possess the material. DOJ prosecutors also attempted to screen jurors based on their Christian beliefs.

Meanwhile, more than 100 attacks on Catholic churches, charities, and pro-life pregnancy centres were largely ignored by the same department.

Targeting the Faithful

According to the report, the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s field office in Richmond, Virginia, opened a low-level investigation of a local Catholic church after relying on allegations from the Southern Poverty Law Centre as well as the religious affiliation of a single FBI target at the church who identified as a “radical traditional Catholic”.

Concurrently, the Richmond office began treating traditional Catholics as potential violent extremists or domestic terrorists based on their preferred popes, devotion to the Traditional Latin Mass, and views on abortion, immigration, and human sexuality, in a memo that was later retracted.

The Internal Revenue Service pursued Christian organisations and churches on similarly tenuous grounds. The report documents the Biden IRS investigating churches based on what their pastors preached. In one case, the IRS denied a Christian organisation’s application for tax-exempt status on the explicit grounds that its “Bible teachings are typically affiliated with the [Republican] party and candidates. This disqualifies you from exemption under IRC Section 501(c)(3)”.

The report found no public indication the Biden IRS opened comparable investigations into the more than 1,600 faith leaders who publicly backed Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.

Fines, Mandates and Exclusions

Christian universities likewise bore the brunt of the Biden Department of Education’s enforcement actions.

Grand Canyon University was fined $37.7 million over tuition cost reporting — a penalty that federal courts and regulators subsequently found no basis for. Then-Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona said the department was “cracking down” on the university “not only to shut them down, but [also] to send a message”. Liberty University also paid a $14 million fine under the Clery Act for campus crime reporting.

Those figures stood in sharp contrast to fines levied against Pennsylvania State University and Michigan State University. Penn State was fined $2.4 million after assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky was convicted of serial child molestation, while Michigan State paid $4.5 million when physician Larry Nassar was exposed for sexually assaulting hundreds of athletes.

Faith-based and career education schools — which educate roughly ten per cent of US students — absorbed 59 of 87 Department of Education enforcement actions, or nearly 70 per cent of the total. Meanwhile, the average fine against a Christian school was $815,000, compared to $228,571 against secular institutions.

Across other agencies, the pattern held. The Department of Homeland Security conducted 61 faith-based outreach engagements between March 2023 and January 2024; two involved Christians, with the remaining 59 directed at other faith groups. Christians comprise an estimated 62 per cent of the US population.

The Small Business Administration denied economic injury disaster loans to nearly 170 Christian organisations on the basis of their faith. And as previously reported at The Daily Declaration, on Good Friday 2024, President Biden issued a proclamation designating Easter Sunday as “Transgender Day of Visibility”.

Federal employees fared little better. Across agencies, requests for religious accommodations to COVID-19 injection mandates were summarily denied or left pending indefinitely, while workers who sought exemptions saw promotions rescinded, security clearances revoked, and, in some cases, were physically barred from their offices.

Further Hostility Documented

Among the other findings of the Task Force:

  • Biden HHS guidance led state agencies to revoke licences from Christian foster families, dissolving some placements that had been in place for years.
  • Despite documented murder, kidnapping and persecution of Nigerian Christians, the Biden State Department removed Nigeria from its list of countries of particular concern for religious freedom.
  • A Catholic hospital in Oklahoma was told to put out its sanctuary candle — or lose Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP funding.
  • A Christian student in the Department of Labor’s Jobs Corps program was repeatedly barred from holding a voluntary Bible study outside school hours.
  • A Christian nurse was forced to participate in an elective abortion against her religious objections. The Biden DOJ withdrew its enforcement action and resolved the case through “technical assistance.” She received no meaningful remedy.
  • The National Park Service refused a Catholic organisation permission to hold a Memorial Day Mass at a national cemetery in both 2023 and 2024.
  • The Biden Administration actively lobbied for federal legislation that would have stripped statutory religious liberty protections from Christians and other faiths holding traditional views — protections that Congress ultimately refused to remove.

The Task Force will submit a final report before its dissolution in February 2027. The full report can be accessed here.

Thanks Kurt for a great article. Biden might have called himself a ” Catholic ” , but, he certainly never behaved as a Catholic /Christian. I am angry that the Church allowed a great sinner like him who produced laws to crush Christianity and who was unrepentant to receive Holy Communion–a sacrilege, in my opinion. Similarly , I objected to Mrs Macron receiving Holy Communion in the restored Notre Dame, Paris , because , she was an older , married woman with children who had sex with her teenage ? pupil, Macron, whom she later married. Once again the local Catholic bishop or archbishop made an exception for another political leader of a country . I doubt that little, frail, aged Pope Benedict 16 would have turned a blind eye. Time the Catholic church grew a backbone and protect God’s teachings and the persecuted, raped and murdered Christians of all denominations around the world. Seems only President Trump has the courage to stand up for Christians. God bless him!
