The Great Lies: Labor’s War on the Australian Dream
Young Australians face a housing crisis decades in the making. This piece argues political choices—not fate—locked a generation out of the Australian Dream, and calls for national renewal.
We live in a time when politicians are widely despised — and frankly, the public is right to feel that way. Across the nation, political leaders have perfected the art of promising everything and delivering nothing. Grand visions are announced with confidence, elections are won with slogans, and yet ordinary Australians are left worse off year after year.
A Generation Locked Out
The consequences of this betrayal are no longer abstract or theoretical. A generation of young Australians now faces the grim reality that they may never afford to buy a home, raise a family, or even secure a modest apartment in the cities where they grew up.
What was once considered a basic expectation of adulthood — stability, independence, and the ability to plan a future — has been transformed into a distant fantasy, accessible only to the wealthy or the exceptionally lucky. This is not merely an economic issue; it is a civilisational one, because societies cannot endure when their young are locked out of the future.
This did not happen by accident — and it did not happen overnight. It is the result of deliberate political choices, sustained over time, and justified through comforting narratives about progress, fairness, and compassion that bear little resemblance to reality.
According to a horrifying report by 7 News, young Australians could take up to 50 years to save for a property in Sydney under current dire conditions. In other words, an entire working lifetime may no longer be enough to achieve what previous generations managed in their twenties or thirties.
The promise that hard work would be rewarded with security has been quietly withdrawn, replaced with the expectation that Australians should simply adjust their aspirations downward and accept permanent instability as normal… And just as the classic broken record goes, we all just need to “just work harder”.
A Broken Social Contract
For centuries, people came to Australia seeking something rare in human history: the chance to build a better life through honest labour, personal responsibility, and the reasonable hope that their children would live more securely than they did. The Australian Dream was never about extravagance or entitlement.
It was about dignity — the ability to own a modest home, raise a family, and plan a future without constant anxiety. That dream united migrants and native-born Australians alike, forming the social contract that made this country stable and cohesive.
Today, that promise is being undermined by policy decisions that ignore basic economic reality. Australia is now accepting new arrivals at an unprecedented pace — with an immigrant arriving roughly every minute — while housing construction, infrastructure, and wages fail to keep up.
Predictably, this imbalance drives competition for scarce housing and pushes prices further out of reach for ordinary Australians. Even more confronting is the fact that taxpayers are increasingly funding this distortion. Under government-backed schemes and concessions, more than 51,000 immigrants since mid 2023 have been assisted into home ownership through generous tax-supported programs — programs that many working Australians themselves do not qualify for.
In effect, citizens who cannot afford a home are being asked to help finance access to the property market for people who just arrived on our fading golden shores. This is not compassion; it is policy negligence dressed up as virtue, and it fuels resentment, division, and a profound sense that the system no longer serves its own people.
Rich in Resources, Poor in Direction
What makes this failure so unforgivable is that Australia is not a poor, weak, or incapable nation. On the contrary, this country possesses extraordinary reserves of skill, energy, intellect, technology, and craftsmanship — resources that are second to none in the modern world.
We have world-class engineers, tradespeople, scientists, farmers, and innovators. We possess vast natural wealth, advanced institutions, and a population capable of building, producing, and sustaining itself with confidence and independence.
Yet instead of mobilising these strengths in a coordinated national effort, our leaders have chosen dependency over resilience, short-term optics over long-term sovereignty, and growth statistics over genuine prosperity.
Rather than building homes at scale, expanding domestic industry, and securing supply chains, governments have leaned on population growth and imported labour as substitutes for vision and planning. The result is an economy that looks strong on paper but feels increasingly fragile to those living within it.
Australia does not lack resources — it lacks direction. What is required is not endless adjustment to decline, but a deliberate national project aimed at economic self-reliance and stability. That means mobilising Australian skill, power, intellect, technology, and craftsmanship in a unified effort to restore housing affordability, productive capacity, and national confidence.
It means recognising that a nation which cannot house its own people, support its own families, or plan for its own future is not progressing — it is quietly surrendering and thus collapsing.
Restoring the Dream
And you may be correct in saying that the “fish rots from the head down.” But the deeper truth is that what has been lost — the stability, confidence, and future that earlier generations took for granted, and which many young Australians may never experience — ultimately rests with the power of the people themselves.
Political decline is sustained not only by poor leadership, but by public disengagement, resignation, and the quiet acceptance of injustice as inevitable.
If the Australian Dream is to be restored, it will not come from slogans or speeches alone, but from citizens who are willing to speak, organise, vote with conviction, and re-anchor public life in truth and moral responsibility. These issues — and the practical steps forward — are explored further in our recent Podcast episode featuring Dave Pellowe, linked below, where we examine how Australians can move from frustration to action rather than apathy.
The Australian Dream was not destroyed by fate or inevitability. It was dismantled by choices. And what has been taken by choices can only be restored by courage, honesty, and a willingness to put the nation — its faith and conviction in Jesus Christ — and its people — first again.
“Woe to those who make unjust laws,
to those who issue oppressive decrees,
to deprive the poor of their rights
and withhold justice from the oppressed.”
— Isaiah 10:1-2

The Great Australian Dream of owning a modest home has become a nightmare for many. In the socialist state of Victoriastan, property values are falling at present but don’t get your hopes up. Taxes are higher here than any other Australian State. Businesses are closing, corruption is rife, people are moving interstate or overseas and gloom is in the air wherever one looks. Welcome to the results of more than a decade of socialist left (Fabian society) government.
Federal Taxes and more Taxes by both Federal LNP and Labor — “-Bracket Creep”; Paye Tax Free Limit not increased in about 50years; CGT; GST. Then we have State Taxes and Council Rates, and the very expensive Reports from an Expert Building Surveyor, required before you can build on any , very ordinary little piece of land–the ridiculous, unnecessary costly “Environmental and Native Report ” to ensure it will not be built on Aboriginal Burial Land, etc which should be protected . State Stamp Duties, etc. Every parasite in bloated Councils needs to have his/her hands “crossed with silver ” before you can build. The delays which can take many, many months, a year or more, can make building a small, ordinary single-storey home , a frustrating and super expensive job. Gone are the days , when I , a young widow, had a 2-storey house in Adelaide’s prestigious Burnside Council area, lodged and approved in just over 2 weeks ! Australia operates as a Racket. It’s easy to blame , we , the Elderly for all of society’s ills. It is the government’s Policy of Envy to teach the Young to HATE us. Not to worry, Socialism has a Solution–sleep in your car until the UN’s Agenda 2030 when we all will own Nothing and live in Govt-owned High-Rise tiny flats with mentally ill and Drug Addicts for neighbours —and we will be “happy ” on a minimum wage for not working, but, woe and betide, if your “Social Credit ” is not good because you have offended the Socialist Govt and its Bureaucrats, then your wage will be reduced or cut off.
“The Australian Dream was not destroyed by fate or inevitability. It was dismantled by choices.”
We can choose better on who governs at the next election.
Please Aussies, make yourself knowledgeable about the policies of the person/party you vote for.
Look beyond the empty slogans.
