Day 20: A Crucial Day in Australia’s History
Intention
Pray for God’s will, His purposes and plans to be accomplished in our nation.
Scripture
Then they said to the king, ‘Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, Your Majesty, or to the decree you put in writing. He still prays three times a day.’ So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions’ den.
After God sent an angel to shut the mouth of the lions.” Read Daniel 6:13-26

Reflection
When Daniel prayed that day, it may have seemed that his prayer was just a personal prayer, with implications extending no further than himself. However, as the story unfolds, we see the huge impact of that prayer. Daniel’s prayer affected not only the chosen Children of Israel, but also their ruling authorities.
Our nation’s Christian values, foundations and freedoms continue to be at risk. The country’s foundations continue to be rocked.
The previous election shone a light on the Christian voice and influence, demonstrating how we can influence an election through our prayers and our votes. Nevertheless, since the dissolution of the Honourable Fred Nile’s Christian Democratic Party, there is a need in both the state and federal governments for a strong Christian voice.
I believe that it was the prayers of the “quiet Australians” — the praying army of Kingdom people — that made the difference in 2019, as we witnessed the unwinnable election won. That election saw serious threats to freedom of religion and freedom of speech, and we continue to see those same threats at stake today.
We must pray that the veil will be removed, and the eyes of Australian voters opened to the threats and challenges that face Australia today.
In Ephesians 1:18-23, Paul wrote:
“I pray that the light of God will illuminate the eyes of your imagination, flooding you with light, until you experience the full revelation of the hope of his calling —that is, the wealth of God’s glorious inheritances that he finds in us, his holy ones! …
We must pray that God’s will, His purpose, and His plan are accomplished in our nation. We must pray that a spirit of truth will prevail in this time of election.
We are living in times that Isaiah spoke of, where “those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! … those who are wise in their own eyes, And prudent in their own sight!” (Isaiah 5:20-21)
As Kingdom people, it is essential that we go back to our Kingdom’s Constitution — The Word of God — as our ultimate source of authority.
Christians, today you must use this small window of opportunity to pray and to vote for freedom, life, family and faith! If we don’t continue to be vigilant, the valuable privileges that we enjoy in Australia today could be lost.

Prayer
Heavenly Father,
We thank You that, as with every day, the day of the 2022 Federal Election is “the day You have made, and we will be glad and rejoice in it.”
Again, we are confronted by darkness and the reality of persecution from our enemies, just as Daniel faced in the lion’s den. Nevertheless, You can shut the mouths of our enemies as You did with the lions in Daniel’s day.
We thank You that You are our Deliverer. We stand just like Jehoshaphat did in the face of his enemies, and we declare today that our eyes are on You: the Lord of hosts!
We lift our voices in praise and we declare our allegiance to the Lord of the angel armies. We pray that You would turn the tide of the enemy and bring down the evil strongholds in our nation in Jesus’ mighty name!
We pray that our nation would become the Great Southland of the Holy Spirit, in Jesus’ name.
Amen!
