Day 01 Australias Only Answer for Real Change

Australia’s Only Answer for Real Change: Day 1

4 May 2025

3.3 MINS

Intention

To respond to the Lord’s call for the Church to fulfil the Great Commission, knowing it is non-negotiable, and is the only real answer for Australia.

Scripture

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. GO THEREFORE and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’”

– Matthew 28:18–20

Reflection

As I write, the election is one day away, and the polls don’t look good. The outcome of this election is critical for everyone, not just Christians.

But regardless of the result, we trust in the Lord.

We must come back to basics. Politics and governments cannot save Australia. The good news of the kingdom is Australia’s only hope.

The election outcome, to some extent, will show the heart of the people. But whatever the result, most Australians do not know the Lord and are not fully following Him.

Matthew 28:18–20 commissions us to change that. Jesus has already given us all the authority to do this!

To this end, the Canberra Declaration is transitioning from 21 days of prayer for the election to praying for God’s transformative move in this nation. This is Australia’s true hope. As Jesus said in Matthew 12:21, “My name will be the hope of all the world.”

The primary call is for us to join the GO Movement. During GO Month, we will pray and activate people to share the Gospel with at least five people in May. Please make a list of five people to pray for and share Jesus with.

There is one word we can use powerfully for the Gospel! That word is “Hello” (or “G’day”, “Shalom”, “How are you?”, etc.). The first thing we need to do is engage with people.

In the next week or so, we will have a training night to learn how to share the simple Gospel in less than three minutes. You don’t need years at a seminary to tell people about Jesus. We can all do it!

In addition, we are supporting Pentecost 25 Sydney Arise (register here). This will be held on Saturday, 17 May, 9 AM—9 PM AEST in Dawson Mall, Mount Druitt, Sydney. The Canberra Declaration will pray on Zoom for the full 12 hours (8 x 1.5-hour sessions of prayer, Word, and worship).

My hope and prayer is that this outreach event will serve as a template and an inspiration for churches that want to reach their communities with the good news of God’s love through Jesus, His Son.

Australia desperately needs the Lord! We need to pray. We need to intercede for Australia. We need to proclaim His Gospel.

Prayer

Dear Father in Heaven,

We are here to stand in the gap for our land before you. We confess our sin of putting our own will above Yours, which You have laid out in Your Word. Forgive us for losing sight of being Your body to the world. Please purify our hearts.

We pray for a national revival and spiritual healing. Please heal our land. We pray for Your peace and blessing to be poured upon Australia according to Your mercy.

Help us to put on the armour of God daily, stand firm, and commit to praying for our families, communities, and nation.

Help us shine the light of God’s love and mercy, never losing sight that our struggle is not with other people but against the spiritual forces that influence us.

We pray for revival and spiritual awakening to sweep throughout Australia, Oceania, and the world.

B’shem Yeshua (in the name of Jesus),

Amen.

I feel this result may shake up the Church, which is a very good outcome.

I would say that God is using Australia to demonstrate that old adage ‘Nobody is ever a waste of space – you can always serve as a bad example’.

But the world seems to have enough of them already.

Yes! Thanks for that. A shake up is what we need.
