Why Israel Struck a Hospital — And What the Media Won’t Tell You

27 August 2025

2.6 MINS

We woke up yesterday morning to shocking images of a Gazan hospital bombed by the Israel military.

We are told the strike killed 20 people, including journalists.

What isn’t apparent, unless you read extensively, is that the IDF were targeting a surveillance camera Hamas had positioned on the hospital’s roof.

A Hamas surveillance camera on a hospital? Who would have thought?

No one seems to ask why Hamas would place a camera on the roof of a hospital – making a military target out of the people they are supposedly defending.

Jumping to Conclusions

Australia’s Environment Minister Murray Watt, typically, fired first and asked no questions later.

He went on the ABC yesterday morning, calling the bombing a “breach of international law”.

“We utterly condemn this action and it’s yet another outrage in a war that’s gone on too long and cost too many innocent lives.

“It’s very clear that targeting or hitting hospitals, health workers and civilians is a breach of international law.

Not quite, Senator Watt.

Under the rules of war, as defined by the Geneva Conventions, hospitals, schools and religious venues are protected if they are only used for their prescribed civilian purpose.

But if they are used for military purposes, they lose that protection and can be targeted.

The risk of civilian deaths would then need to be balanced against the value of the military objective. It is a dismal calculus.

What we know for certain is that Hamas propaganda against Israel is more effective than bullets and bombs, and much of the Western media is willing to publish it uncritically.

If the attack in question was not justified – or was disproportionate – then it was a regrettable mistake. The IDF know full well that they are continuously lied about and would be mindful to avoid offering grains of truth that further feed the propaganda mill.

So-Called Journalists

The world’s media are, of course, lamenting the death of the journalists in this strike.

But nothing is as it seems in a war zone – and neither, it seems, are the so-called journalists:

Mhd Salama

Mohammed Salama of Al Jazeera appears to have been a terrorist who invaded Israel on October 7.

On October 7, Mohammed Salama uploaded scores of pictures and videos from inside Israel.

We know he took them because of the watermark bearing his name.

The videos were not ‘news’ videos. Many of them were staged – videos of terrorists posing at the site of their attack while Mohammed Salama himself chanted “Allahu Akbar”.

He wasn’t reporting on terror… he was participating and glorying in it.

Mariam Abu Daqqa

Then there is Mariam Abu Daqqa, who did work for the Associated Press. She also taught “journalism” courses for the Hamas “information ministry”.

It’s also alleged that she was the driver for Hasam Aslih, a supposed news photographer who filmed Jews being slaughtered on October 7.

Ahmed Abu Aziz

A third journalist killed by the IDF yesterday was Ahmed Abu Aziz, a delightful individual if his social media is anything to go by.

Ahmed celebrated the October 7 massacre in which women were raped and babies burned alive in front of their parents, calling it “the greatest day of our generation.”

There’s more. But that gives you enough of an idea.

Moaz abu Taha

Moaz abu Taha of NBC was a known terrorist supporter who openly celebrated Hamas terrorists on Facebook.

Back in 2018, he was praising terrorist Ahmed Nasr Jarar as a hero.

Jarar, commander of the Hamas military wing, was killed by the IDF after he shot dead a Jewish rabbi, father of six.

Three lessons:

  1. War is bad.
  2. Don’t start wars.
  3. Release the hostages.

One more thing… people often ask why Israel doesn’t allow journalists into Gaza. Answer? Refer to lesson 1.

Thank you for demonstrating why the IDF had to get rid of the surveillance camera and in doing so had to take out some of the Palestinians. It is very sad that such strategies are a necessary act of war, when the enemy hides under a civilian camouflage (like a hospital building.)
I remember reading how the Hamas soldiers abandoned wearing uniforms when they planned the Oct 7 attack. They posed as civilians driving normal cars and trucks (carrying weapons) and while they came up from underground tunnels to ‘visit’ the Samaria Jewish community with evil intent….some had been workers on the Jewish kibbutz’s and had acted as friends.
Another tactic I read of was that the Hamas were to call themselves ‘journalists’ as this gave them freedom to travel around Gaza on a passport posing as ‘neutral’ person doing their work. Nothing could be further from the truth but it was a clever ploy and it’s still being used. The enemy tactic is to hide under any camouflage that works and then publicize distorted facts to the western media and blame Israel in all instances!
    Its so very tragic

Just two questions – why aren’t these truths reported, or even questioned, by main stream press? How do we get these truths into the minds of our PM and Foreign Minister in ways where they cannot deflect to their preferred narrative? Somehow these truths need to be revealed to our government and the wider community.

Because the agenda is ultimately spiritual. The father of lies is behind MSM etc.

FACT: #Israel have all they can to minimised civilian casualties.
All deaths are 100% on #Hamas and their partners in crime.

    Peace? Then…
    Hostages 1st
    Terrorist / Hamas surrender 2nd
    Ceasefire 3rd

Israeli officials have made clear that the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian population of Gaza is their ultimate goal. Be honest & admit Israel’s #1 goal is the complete removal of all Palestinians from both Gaza & the West Bank. “We are destroying more and more homes, and Gazans have nowhere to return to. The only inevitable outcome will be the wish of Gazans to emigrate outside of the Gaza Strip,” Netanyahu said at the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, according to The Jerusalem Post. BTW why the “Double Tap” on the hospital?

Thanks James for focusing on the truth. I sense few Australians know these rules of war you quoted: “Under the rules of war, as defined by the Geneva Conventions, hospitals, schools and religious venues are protected if they are only used for their prescribed civilian purpose….But if they are used for military purposes, they lose that protection and can be targeted.”
It seems too that our Australian media is very much based on the Aljzeera news which is fed to them by the Hamas…That in turn is like asking the Nazi regime to daily report on WW2 when Hitler’s aim was to exterminate all Jews. In a very similar way, we see the Hamas charter is to kill all Jews and as needed to kidnap and torture women and children. (hence Oct 7 2023 attack and kidnapping)
Sadly, our Western newsmedia rarely exposes the clever ploy of the plains clothes Hamas, hiding in hospitals, schools and UNHWRA facilities while carrying out attacks on the IDF or bombing Israel. The fact the Hamas built underground tunnels for 17 yrs from 2006 in Gaza (once they were voted into power in Gaza) is also neglected….instead, the Western media just blames the Jews and nation of Israel for the Gaza war when in fact they have moved to protect the nation of Israel in self defence.
This is the same anti semitic spirit that was behind Hitler’s regime and its now penetrated the West largely through distorted press reports, through the UN, tragically deceiving those who have no knowledge of the truth or history (aiming at our young generation.)

So 20 deaths is a price worth paying for the destruction of one surveillance camera? I suppose we all have our priorities…

Fact: At least six terrorists were killed. Hamas were operating from the hospital directing military action against Israel.

I will reiterate this personal account, which explains everything. A dear friend Yusuf, not his real name for security reasons, is an Arab Christian Israeli living in Judea, he works with youth and helps people with PTSD due to his psychology qualifications.

We sat with Yusuf in our apartment in Jerusalem while he recounted the following:

Yusuf was born in Israel in an Arab town to Arab Israeli and Gazan parents.
From age 4 till teens Yusuf lived in Gaza, they left in 2005 when Israel withdrew all Jews and handed Gaza over to Arab rule and settled in Israel.
Yusuf’s best friend Damir (again name altered) growing up, also a Christian, was Gazan and could not leave in 2005. Damir married and they had a daughter.
Early in 2024 Hamas setup rocket launchers in the Church and started attacking Israel. Hamas held many of the congregation hostage in the Church while launching rockets.
The Israeli Air Force (IAF) blew up the rocket launching base, the Church and the hostages were killed.
We wept with Yusuf as he shared this horror.

What should have the IAF done? Continued to allow Israel to be attacked?

This is the dilemma Israel faces in dealing with Hamas, PIJ, Hezbollah, Iran, etc. who use civilians and civilian infrastructure to wage war.

It is worth noting that the civilian casualty ratio is 1:1.8 in Gaza vs a 1:9 global average. This is the lowest civilian casualty rate by far for any similar urban conflict.
THIS IS BECAUSE ISRAEL HAS GONE OUT OF ITS WAY TO PROTECT CIVILIANS!

Israel is the only military in the world that drops leaflets, sends text messages, uses “knock bombs,” announces their plan to attack by drones so that civilians can escape. The civilians who try to leave are often shot by Hamas and are included in their count of dead or injured civilians.

Israel is by no means perfect, but are they accountable. E.g. If IDF soldiers do the wrong thing they are punished, i.e. gaoled. They do the best to adhere to basic humanity.
